And he had US law enforcement all over him, absolutely desperate to hit him with a huge sentence that would ensure he spent the rest of his life behind bars. They never gave up trying. When you see footage of Lansky in his later years he just looked hounded and sad. I know that he had been a major gangland figure and therefore HAD to have done terrible things, but he had gotten out of that life and just wanted to retire and be left alone. He even had the press following his every move (and was always polite when turning down their attempts to interview or talk to him) No criminal could still be active under these conditions. Israel should have let him stay but were blatantly under heavy pressure from the US to extradite. The US government were also all over his finances, desperately looking for his hidden millions (no doubt trying to pull a 'Al Capone' on him to put him away for tax evasion) I hope that even with all that pressure he had a good relaxing retirement with his family. He out lived his former gang associates, escaped prosecution and died a natural death. There's not too many organised crime figures that you can say that about.

@davekennedy6315
@davekennedy6315 3 жыл бұрын
@@LSSYLondon Franzese is one that always puzzled me. His own father was on the verge of taking him out at one point as he'd become too much of a draw for the police (Michael really played up the role of Yuppie Don/Mafia Price and obviously enjoyed the attention far too much for someone in his position) I dont understand how he was allowed to live or how he actually left the Mob, as that was unheard of at the time. His story doesnt make sense as he's also since gone on to talk openly about his time in the Mob. He also didn't spend much time in prison either. None of this makes any sense as this would guarantee a bullet behind the ear.

Definitely! He was the brain behind Lucky Luciano and The Syndicate. I'm sure that in his youth he must have been dangerous in his own right, but with age he had the sense to stay in the shadows. The greatest and most successful criminals/gangsters stay low key and in my opinion Meyer Lansky and Carlo Gambino are the finest examples. Both lived their lives relatively free and both died natural deaths, pretty much unheard of in organised crime.

The FBI kept tabs on Lansky right up to his death. They could not make any cases against him, but they were ble to make cases against people who met with him. His wife was interviewed for CBS News 60 Minutes in the mid 80s. The interview was very interesting as Lansky was one of the few mobsters to die a natural death and not be assasinated. In the GodFather 2, the character of Hyman Roth was based on Myer Lansky.

I actually, technically, worked for the mob for like, 2 weeks when I was 19. I was an under the table dishwasher at a restaurant/bar/club (it was 5 floors) they laundered money through. Because of this, I actually managed to get away with yelling at a sterotypical mob guy. Talking to him in the bar about my pay, we were being very very loud. Finally he shouts "ARE YOU FUCKING YELLING AT ME?" to which I replied "YEAH, THE BANDS LOUD AS HELL". We had a good laugh at that. So grateful he had a sense of humor, and realized this was the case. I might have died before there was ever a youtube.

I actually knew Meyer Lansky when he lived in Miami. He was a neighbor in the same large apartment complex and lived in an apartment overlooking the pool. I was 15-16 way back then and Lansky was the nosey neighbor type who always complained to the manager about the kids doing normal kid things. He complained to my father about taking me into the rec room to play a game of pool & they both got into a heated argument about it. When my father found out who he was, he turned ashen. A month later we moved.

We always knew that my dad's house started it's life as an old school pre-fab house like a Jim Walter home but what none of us knew until I was in my 30's was that our house was one of five pre-fab houses on the block and they were all bought new by one person Meyer Lansky !!! Wasn't sure it was the same Meyer Lansky until we did a lil bit of digging and found out playland speedway started it's life as kind of a Coney Island for the Midwest and rumor has it there was every kind of vice there you could think of and the man who built it all was Meyer Lansky...

Whaaaaat? I watched a video from Bald and Bankrupt in which he went to Grodna, Belarus just for the heck of it, and it's this tiny hamlet that has one trains stop and not much else. Kind of wild that I just watched that and now this guy is from there.

OMG, my great aunt Eileen's husband Stanislau Kievra was born in Grodno! He fled to England during ww2, serving as a type of warden. However, after the war he wasn't allowed to stay (as his homeland was behind the Irok Curtain), but he couldn't return either (the fleeing and all). Therefore he had to go to Argentina (living alongside other Polish husbands to English women) where he spent almost the rest of his trying to return (despite being married to an English woman). He managed to get back to England a few years before he died. They had a daughter, but she died very young, and that was that. Eileen was also a oenpsl of the written, editor, and Publisher Lee Fitzhugh Harkins; a Choktaw Native American Man, although I don't know whether they stayed in touch after her daughter's death, he died 10 years later.

Living in the S/W corner of Arizona, many resending go to Los Algodones, MX. for our dental appointments. About 5 years ago, I went to my Dentist’s office. The waiting room was full, so I decided to wait on a bench in front of the office. A few moments after sitting down, a spindly woman of years sat down next to me and we waited together. She she excessively lean….practically skin and bones. She appeared to be older than rock. Even at her age she was wearing tight, tight pants and high heals. Her hair was bleach blond and down below her shoulders. Her face was white as snow and heavily coated with colorful eye makeup and generous application of lipstick so red…it stops traffic. I thought this old doll must have been hot back in her day. I could see she was still trying to hang on to what she once had. She was easy to talk to and some how our conversation drifted around to old mobsters. After quite a bit of conversation I told she that I mean no offense, but Meyer Lansky was always my favorite. He was a total gentleman and the consummate businessman. For a second she seem stunned. Suddenly she shrieked like a little girl on the school. The threw her arms around my neck, kissed me and thanked me profusely. She said that in her younger days, she had been Meyer Lansky’s girlfriend. What a shock! We sat and talked about Lansky for quite a while. I guess it could be said that I met Meyer Lansky by proxy!!!

Is there proof? Because you can find evidence of lucky Luciano telling in a heroin case as a kid but I’ve never seen any evidence of Lansky informing. Thought he was just a smart Jew that avoided mob membership and consequences.
