I got a used set for USD $150.00. I also got some aftermarket 4.4mm cables, a pair of deeper earpads (they replaced the earpads when I bought it , but were too shallow to be comfortable for me) and a pair of knitted earpad muffs (to help soak up my sweat. I live in a tropical, hot and humid country in South East Asia) and maybe added another USD $50.00 to the cost. With some EQ management, I am enjoying the 99 Classics tremendously.

i have owned these for a few years now, and i like them for their ease and naturalness. i don't like the ~400Hz scoop and the ~8kHz brightness. but all and all, especially given the slightly boasty bass, these headphones are a no-brainer for audio enthousiast denying consumer-grade products looking for natural sound in a PORTABLE solution (like me). and for me, the ultimate seller: GREAT build quality for €300, no plastic hinges, these products last a long time. after 4 years of daily *abuse* i now have had to order a new cable and pads. i expect the headphones to last many many more years. i can live with the frequency response downsides, since it ticks all the other boxes. it's easy to fall into enjoying music on these without focusing on audio reproduction too much. they do so many things so right

I got it earlier did not like the bassy sound too warm for me. May be because I had better resolving pairs like Sundara or HD560s. Had to return it. Nice acurate review!

I use the wavelet app, I also have a schiit audio Loki, but dont really listen to headphones at home. I would recommend trying the MathAudio Headphone EQ or similar for home PC listening.

I was more than satisfied with the sound after just replacing the earpads with Brainwavz Hybrid earpads, but I also don't know enough to mess with eq's.

I love Meze. I have the 99 Classics and they are a steal, in my opinion. Will never get old; just a great pair of easy listening headphones for long sessions.

i got a set of 99 neos (basically the same but without the wood) for my birthday a few months ago, and i've been absolutely loving them. Two things that definitely should be mentioned though : they are a very large antenna for electronic interference, so do watch out about that, and for outdoor use, the metal bands on top will make any wind resonate a bunch, which makes them kinda impossible to use outside sadly. But overall though, i don't think i've touched a better set of headphones in my life

I have the Noir version and I find the extremely comfortable and if they had a large sound stage I'd rate them a total 10. As it is I give them a 9. That said I've worn out the ear cups and would like the foam upgraded units. Oh, and I found the supplied cable to have issues with Micro Accoustics when the cable rubs against anything. The reproduction of all my listening choices demonstrate exactly which ones are recorded a great or poor. I find the Bass and clarity as you say excellent. They are far more comfortable and I orefer them to a barely use do to discomfort and Sont just oissing ne iff with the hoops you have to jump through to get all the control options. They have less than 29 hrs on them. I'm tempted to just give them away.

If you can review the Meze 109 Pro headphones, that would be great! I do like Meze design, and materials a lot - and I probably would enjoy the 99 Classics, but I am not sure the bass balance would "wear" well? The 109 Pro are a lot more money, but are closer to neutral (I think?).

After years and years of using only gaming headphones for gaming, movies and music, I recently chose to start walking the 'higher end' path and to start I bought these Meze 99 Classics. It's quite a difference to what I was used to with my cheap gaming headphones. It takes some getting used too. I am planning on bying open back headphones too, although I don't know yet if I will still take it easy and buy something like the Hifiman Ananda or Meze 109 Pro, or...if I will go all-in and buy something like the Meze Empyrean II at 3 times the price.

Is the metal band prone to vibration I wonder? Also - when hanging HP's like these on a stand - hang them on the metal part not the headband (for long-term springiness).
@iiWiReviews6 ай бұрын
If you tap on the metal band it will vibrate... But I had to check that just now because it's not something that I ever noticed, or was bothered with, in regular use.

I haven't, it seemed like an overkill to me so I kept my breaks on Chord Mojo 2 and Rose Technics RT5000 - both great devices. But there is no reason these wouldn't perform fantastic with S17pro.

Try the 99 Noir, Drop will routinely sell them for $180 USD. They have the same tuning as the 99 Classics, the only difference is that the wooden earcups are stained black.
@alejandroelcid6 ай бұрын
I own the 99 Noir, it has the same tuning as the 99 Classics but the headphones are painted black. Sound wise (not an audiophile) it is the best headphones I have heard. My only complaints when it comes to the build is that the stock earpads can get warm but replacing them with the Brainwavz Hybrid earpads did the trick. This did decrease the lower end but it also elevated the mid-highs and I enjoy the sound more. One feature the I feel that is not mentioned enough is that as nothing is glued in, you can easily (and cheaply) replace earpads, headband, and even the driver. In the long run it is a good investment. The 99 Classics are $310 USD but the Noir (Drop version) frequently are on sale for $180 USD; for the price this is a good value for sound and longevity.
