Thank you for this video. My father was the engineer identified as Ted Trosper. He was proud of his work on the railroad. I had not saw this since I was a small child, sitting in his lap, watching on the VCR. His friends had told me he “handled” a train better than anyone, and he even took one of the last passenger trains, if not the last passenger train out of Corbin. The train was loaded with CSX executives, and told him they had never had a better ride. I am proud to be the son, grandson, and great-grandson of railroad men.

Seemed like a very nice gentleman and extremely knowledgeable on his train handling as he spoke to the film crew ....

I grew up a railfan in Corbin.. If you would have ever tried to tell me that someday in the future that rail traffic would be as low as it is through there now I would have thought you were goofy... I took living and train watching around that busy yard for granted...I always liked it when 4 or 5 unit lash ups of four axle GPs could still be seen when I was a kid in the early 1990s , and remember being disappointed one time when a train of auto racks had a pair of sd40-2s instead of GPs on the front... Now I would love to see those SDs leading again 😢

Wow! This looks like it was such a fun era to railfan in! Very beautiful, scenic area there. And these were the days when crews actually allowed you to ride in the cab of their trains with them!!

Those were my best years of railfanning. I miss those days of not knowing what might show up on the tracks. With most every locomotive being a wide cab nowadays they all look the same.

I used to have this on VHS. It surprises me now how many U-Boats and predecessor schemes were still on the railroad. And yes, I remember when it was that busy.

I hired out in 99 on the “Ky” as it was affectionately know by the guys. Worked two years running cincy to Corbin before transferring to the north side of cincy. That Corbin side once was very busy! It is completely underutilized now.
