I've finally had a chance to test-drive a Haval H6 and honestly compare its most obvious features to my privately owned MG HS Essence. Admittedly - I'm comparing a top of the range MG HS to a mid-range H6 "Lux" model, because Haval H6 Ultra is substantially more expensive, and wasn't seen as a fair competition in this case.

You were talking about the slower transition through gears for acceleration in the Haval. In the ultra the option to use sports mode (not sure if this is an option in other models) is mind blowing. I have come from a V8 and the power that comes from the Haval ultra in sports mode is aaammmazzing!!!

Wow that's great to hear. There is sports mode button on the steering wheel of my MG HS too, but I didn't see one in Haval Lux model. Not sure how you could ever compare that to V8 but will take your word for it! 😉👍

I have the Lux and also have sports mode, it definitely make a difference. I usually use normal mode as it uses less petrol.

You really need to compare the Haval H6 Ultra rather than the Lux model against the HS Essence, the H6 would win hands down on technology and the price is much closer. Comparing NZ prices MG HS Essence is $41k and the Haval H6 Ultra is $39k H6 Ultra provides sunroof, heated seats, wireless charging, heated steering wheel, auto parking etc. The H6 is 2litre turbo driving a 7 speed DCT I have driven both and prefer the Haval H6 Ultra both for creature comforts and drivability. Size wise, engine size etc the Haval Jolion Ultra would be a better comparison to the MG HS Essence and leave you with another $6k in the bank. Just my thoughts, I haven’t committed to either at this stage, I might wait another two or three months and drive the Haval H6 GT when it arrives. Keep up the good work with your reviews, it’s great to see an unbiased drivers view.

Thanks for the words of support and the insights from NZ mate, much appreciated. It's strange because my research and talking to dealers shows that Haval H6 Ultra is quite a bit more expensive than my MG HS Essence. Like I said, mine is ~36k (or at least I paid that much for mine, negotiated down, etc), and speaking with Haval dealer it looks like Ultra model is mid-40s... So, give or take, almost $10k difference, which is why I wasn't comparing Ultra to Essence. I spoke several times about the potential disconnect on the model ranges though, as of course Ultra would be better - but also a lot more expensive in Australia.

@@ValueCarsAU According to the pricing on the Haval website, the H6 Ultra 2WD is $38,985 driveaway. The 4WD is $41,990 There is the Vanta above the Ultra, which only adds black alloy wheels and black grille, and its 4WD is $42,990 driveaway.

Looking at the H6 Ulttra at present, love the minimilist interior and steady looks. For me personally, the MG looks a bit too plastic on the outside.

That's an interesting view and I don't necessarily disagree. Haval looks minimalist but expensive, steady, as you said. Shame they didn't have a larger car for me to consider (yeah I know about H9 but it's too expensive for my budget).

MG HS seats and steering wheel are more sporty than the H6. The HS bucket seats are excellent. The HUD in the H6 Ultra is extremely clear even in bright sunlight.

Hi Dimitri,wow very interesting,awesome video once again,i actually rang the dealership in regards to the haval hybrid,which is coming out in september,i think we are all spoilt for choice here,for me personally im considering getting the haval hybrid,its cheaper than the rav4,no waiting around as you have to wait like two years for the rav4,as im a full time uber driver,i remember you saying one of the reviewers was a uber driver to,if your out there mate,consider the haval hybrid,i guess it comes down to personal choice,dimitri i really appreciate your input on this as always mate,you provide honest reviews,its a absolute pleasure watching your videos,thanks again and take care.

Hi Dimitri, hope your well buddy,dimitri actually I rang the chullora dealership, which is suttons, there getting the haval hybrid in stock in september, problem I got is I can't make up my mind,I took both the ldv diesel, and the haval hybrid, for a test drive,I can't make up my mind lol,I'll definitely keep the ground posted, I was amazed of the handling of the ldv, so smooth, tough decision for sure,I do uber full time,either car will be great, just don't know which one lol,enjoy your weekend buddy,look forward to your awesome videos to.

HS Essence would be my choice based upon my preference re looks - it would be great also to compare your own HS to the 2.0 AWD HS as fuel consumption goes up significantly but good to know if performance does too 🤘

Not sure if you found the feature but the H6 has seat warmers for the front seats. Have seen the MG HS and would buy the Haval over this, feels like a better suv and better car overall.

As an SUV (with "SUV feel") I agree - Haval is "better". As a value for money in the SAME price category - you get a lot more buying an MG. But then again - it feels more like a car than a SUV. Essence models definitely have seat warmers - no worries there.

@@ValueCarsAU actually in my opinion they are both very similar cars and great value, Haval H6 does feel more like an SUV but I do agree the MG is overall more polished and better seats. It takes while to get comfortable. Overall both great cars and I see more and more on the road here in Melbourne. By the way, how is the new car? I have seen this always thought it looks promising.

So this is my take: after having the H6 Lux for over 1 year and some 25k, about a month ago I got a Mg Vibe (which is equivalent to the H6 Lux), I can say I am blown away with the HS.

Haval H6 recently got 5 stars Ncap safety rating. I'm not sure if any Chinese SUV has ever achieved that. That for me makes it the winner.

Dimitri i have just test driven both the Haval H6 premium and the MG HS Excite , i found no lag in the gear box MG that has been widely reported , I found the power and gear changes very good, and also found the lane keeping not to bad yes it was a little bit more aggressive then our ZST Excite but nothing that i would worry about Oh i found you can turn it off as well As for the Haval didn't like the gear nobbie thing one little bit and the gear paddle are not great. I also found the steering wheel too thin compared to the MG , the lane keeping is VERY ANNOYING it even reacted when i went close to the gravel edge of the road and that Beeepp is so loud The Haval had plenty of power but my racing days are long gone ha ha , I did test the SPORTS BUTTON in the HS and it sounds great, would I use it yes for when you have that situation where you need to get out of someone road or if when overtaking and you suddenly encountered a car coming the other way Over all I am learning towards the MG as I felt more comfortable driving it now this could be because we have the ZST and the controls are similar but there is still very little difference, price and trade in (change over cost) could be a deciding factor Thanks Dimitri for your honest review Oh i even looked at reviews of the Cherry

Hey Raymond, good points mate and it's all very subjective - e.g. you like some features of HS, while I prefer Haval actually (other than their ELK that I can't turn off - while you can do that in MG...). Chery is in a different category to these 2 cars, at least the Omoda 5 that's available right now. It's too small etc if you compare it directly to HS or H6 so I wouldn't bother honestly.

Cockpit layout seems better on the haval and the steering wheel looks a bit like a land rover, the dash is of much greater quality on Haval, have not driven any since I only drive manual but have sat in both to see how fat the Chinese have came.

I wish they were leather but they aren't. Got the top of the line 2.0T fully loaded version but the seats don't look like they're genuine leather. Except for that, for me it's perfect!

I had an MG as a rental car last week. Free upgrade. It’s okay going to the shops and back but not in difficult situations like climbing a steep twisting hill up to mount tambourine gueensland Gold Coast. Bloody rubbish. Then coming back down at night the lights are terrible. Not good enough. Not very good range. The info screen cut our while driving. Went black except for the top line of use less stuff. In general a bad car.

Thanks for sharing your experience and impressions mate, all opinions are welcome, and as you might have heard from my other videos - I'm not happy with every bit of the cars either... Cars are quite different though - which model of MG did you drive? Because MG3 is different from ZS, is different from ZST, and of course HS... Engine is on a weaker side, DCT sucks, and infotainment is just crap... But value for money to drive in the city? Unbeatable mate.
