MG4 | The Best Value EV on the Market | 450km Range

This week on the DoneDeal KZbin channel we're driving the new MG MG4. It's a fully electric hatchback, with two battery sizes and two specs - which makes picking the car you want very easy.
It's also fantastically well priced with a starting price of €27,495 all the way into the mid €30,000s.
Whilst the smaller battery (51kWh) has a decent 350km range, it's the 64kWh version we would recommend as it has a very impressive 450km range!
To drive around town it's very easy to manoeuvre, and where there is any poor visibility, the MG4's onboard cameras pick up the slack - they're very good!
Quality is always a worry when buying a car that's relatively 'new' to the market, however for the most part the MG4 is well put together using high quality materials.
We really think the MG4 is the real deal and would highly recommend you heading to your local dealer if you're interested in getting a well priced family EV.

Hi Dave - thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed the MG4. The steering wheel has two shortcut buttons one of which can be used for climate control which makes it really easy to access when driving 😀

Would wish MG start with the 3, 2 and 1. Back in 2014 they teased a small EV called the Dynamo electric. It was a rebadged Chinese Roewe e50 and would still meet everyone's expectations for an entry level EV now

It certainly would be a nice move from the Leaf. The Leaf is a great car however the MG feels a little more modern and is more engaging to drive.

@@Brian-om2hh the basic spec uses LFP which is smaller in capacity but better, no 80% limit for day to day use and apparently last twice as long over the long range version. Think about it, what's the point of buying long range that has about 100km extra range but to prevent longevity of the battery you use only 80% most of the time.

All these electrical bits, seats,steering wheel etc! Are they all powered by the 12volt battery ? The AA have many calls due to flat 12volt batteries , not the traction battery

I saw 200 KW/h chargers in Tuam :) Our Ioniq 5 charges at 150 KW/h, but I never saw that. I consider over 50, good.

Hi can you place video how properly put in and out charging plug? I've seen few broken socket on Facebook forums and high prices for fixing in MG service. Also how is possible brake charging pin?

Some people had a problem when charging overnight and the flap got frozen in place. If they for a bit too forceful a pin involved in the hinge mechanism broke.

@@MegaHorse7 Interesting. In Germany, the highest variant is called "Luxury" (funny, it is an english expression, Germans love english expressions...) and it has got a heat pump. The SE Long Range (in Germany "Comfort") has no heat pump. I have this variant, and I don't really miss it. In Winter, I drive fully clothed (display 20-22 degrees which is much lower in fact) and I had got 18 kWh/100 km average.

None available for 6 months. Its Feb. 2023. so July/Aug. So not really launched. Power connection is in the rear, yet no reversing camera on cheaper models? Or rear wiper. so good luck reversing into power stations. No built in sat nav, cheaper models, and no rear speakers for radio. Let me repeat no REAR SPEAKERS FOR RADIO. CHEAPER MODELS. So glaring omissions. BYD to launch later this year. The model trim reviewed is 8k more than base and prices has grant taken off.

Do the Japanese give their cars Japanese names, no. Everyone including you know SAIC is a Chinese company which bought the brand name to do as it pleased so it would not have legal problem,s using the brand. Tata motors did the same with land rover. Now they design the cars and continue to keep the brand name alive because many older people will be familiar with those names.

The back is terribly designed. The spoilers spoil the whole design + actually increase consumption. No rear wiper? Really? I live in a country with lots of snow and rain, dust - am I not supposed to see anything? What good is all the high tech without a basic safety feature like a wiper? Will they next time omit the front wipers too? To make it even more "futuristic"? Otherwise, it would have been a great car.
