It might be an old video but it's still worth its weight in gold! I'm faced with a similar issue in NZ and just steeling myself to get started. Steve, your blood is worth bottling thanks! Geoff

I've seen many very bad how-to videos on KZbin, this is quite the opposite. Thank you Steve, a job well done. Watching you from here on the Central Coast of California.

Nice job. I’ve had my ‘72 MGB since hs. I rebuilt the motor in ‘05 by myself using my Haynes book and You Tube. Not bad for an Alabama girl . lol Then I made the mistake of letting my then husband-now ex drive it. I’m now living in Florida and have had this new baffled fuel tank for a year. Today is the day it goes in! Thanks for the video!

The MG BGT’s only ever had 5 captive nut fixings on the fuel tanks, the other 4 fixings were nut and bolts plus washers. For ease of fitting it does make sense that the other 4 holes have captive nut fixings!

Great video, many thanks! I think I got most of it, attempting this job on saturday.what glue did you use to put the rubber strips on the top of the tank down?
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Jason, I just used Spraytack Spray Adhesive. in all honesty you can use any sort of spray glue. Once the tank is in place they won't go anywhere as they are sandwiched in place. Cheers Steve

Brilliant short Steve! I wish the GT6's had an exterior fuel tank. Did you consider an aluminium tank instead of this one?
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, yeah I looked at aluminium ones, but in all honest, I not a big fan. In a number of ways they are better as they don't rot and are lighter, but its getting one made from a decent suppler. The other thing with aluminium is they can stress crack and at four times the price I just think money better off sent elsewhere. It’s all swings and roundabouts really

Hi Steve. Super quick job and yes, moss may give you a discount next time!😇 Was the fitting kit included? Seeing you in white overalls, is that a salute to the aircraft engineers you see in archive footage working on the Supermarine "S" racers of the '30's? Have to confess when l had my body shop in the '80's l wore them for that reason! SAD? I don't think so. The badges on the rear pillars were fitted on the later "B's" to hide the weld joints. To cut costs B.L. stopped lead loading the joints and hid them with the badges. Your's almost certainly will be leaded but will now have holes drilled for the badges! If you look at later models the rear panels have an exposed joint for the same reason. Take care and stay safe.
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, I never knew that. as I've always said every day is a school day. I feel honored that I remind you of the Supermarine engineers who worked under RJ Mitchell. I don't know about the discount, I just like telling people where I got the parts from. Unfortunately the fixing kit was extra, but for value for money on a larger capacity fuel tank over standard, I thought it was a bargain!!

Did l hear you say they sell plastic tanks there? I would prefer that to steel as the salt eats steel alive here in Canada.
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
That would be awesome if you could get hold of a plastic fuel tank. When I looked around for the one I got, I did toy with the idea of an alloy fuel tank, however they are a tad on the expensive side 👍
@exJacktar
@exJacktar 4 жыл бұрын
@@SteveDentonClassics with the exchange rate and all parts coming from the USA or UK, everything is expensive. I envy your access there. Lucky bugger. I did look on the Moss-Europe site and didn't see any plastic, only mild steel. Can you supply a link to yours, please?
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
It was just mild steel long range fuel tank from Moss Europe. You can buy the same one from Moss Motors which are based in the USA and are the American part of Moss. The U.K. part number is 471-224 if you contact Moss Motors USA and quote that part number for a 16 gallon fuel tank, they should be able to get one to you Hear a link to the Moss Motors USA website with the tank I’ve got on mine 👍🏻 mossmotors.com/16-gallon-touring-fuel-tank
