Love this channel! Love the calm, erudite commentary of a dedicated, knowledgable owner. Love the fact that there is no annoying music. Love Iris -- great color, super vintage. Fantastic channel!

Excellent video as usual! Best wishes in finding your oil weep source. I too had a slight weep onto a vinyl sheet under the car. Finally tracked it down to the front tappet/pushrod cover. Now hopefully fixed after 1.5 days of work, but only an hour and a bit to fix it. The rest was disassembly and reassembly for access! Geoff in NZ

If memory serves me right, I think the Speedo cable was secured with an aluminum type zip tie to the wiring harness and body across from the clutch slave cylinder. Your rear axle may be leaking because your vent tube may be plugged causing pressure to build in the rear axle. Or your front pinion seal may be the issue.

I’m going to call you AP for short. I’m thinking of doing a video that sort of inventories the major components of the car, but it seems like a lot of work so maybe not. Thanks for you support and comments.

Excellent video as always. Very sorry about your fires and smoke. Your Canadian fire is now on par with our fires here in Southern Oregon a couple years back. Massive and choking. Did not go out until the November rains and snow. Best of luck with that. Minutia: I am still convinced your car is a 1962. Chrome strip around the Tach/Speedo nacelle. Another observation... the distance between the front turn signal/parking lamp edge and the grille edge... I am going to do some investigative work on this. I'll get back to you with this measurement on my 63.

Thanks Jeff. I also think it is really a 1962, I’ll be interested in what you find out.

@@mgbsandotherstuff2982 ONLY the 62 had the small chrome trim around the nacelle.. no other year. The first May of 62 VIN was 101.. ending VIN for 62 was 4618 The first engine # was 18 G 101. Supposedly the first 50 (perhaps 100) had a defect that was corrected by the dealers and an "S" was stamped into the original engine tag when modified. Front lights.. here is an anomaly on your car. I believe the front "wings" fenders have been replaced with 1969 or later ... this owing to the tight gap from turn signal lamps to the grill. I'll check on more and get back to you.
@mgbsandotherstuff2982
@mgbsandotherstuff2982 Жыл бұрын
I am pretty confident that the wings are replacements. In every photo I have of the car prior to restoration, the wings are missing.
@rogerwilco4736

The gap between the sidelamp/indicator fitting and the grill indicates your front fenders are late model (post 1969) prior to that the gap was approx 3x greater. The position of the sidelamps was changed to conform with British regulations which required the side lamp to be positioned vertically below the head lamp
@mgbsandotherstuff2982
@mgbsandotherstuff2982 Жыл бұрын
I think they were replaced in 2002 with new "late model" reproductions. Not sure if the "early style" reproductions were available back then.

Observation and anomaly..... ' Starting at 6:47 as the camera pans to the left.. I see a metal "bracket" which appears to be bolted to the firewall in front of the heater over the gear box /engine tunnel. It is painted IRIS blue and looks to be about 2-2 1/2 inches high, has a bend/crease at the top left to right. Maybe 10 - 12 inches long. Looks to be bolted to the body/firewall.. perhaps by two studs In the far left/passenger side there is another smaller vertical bracket attached to the long bracket... it is also painted blue and looks to be riveted or studded with the threads facing back to the heater. At 7:09 there is a clear shot of the end of the large bracket and the smaller vertical bracket... to his there is a typical clip/bracket which shows a rubber insert and this clip is clamped around the speedo cable ? The fuel line appears to be behind this long bracket and not clamped but serves to keep it in place. I have never seen this on another MGB and I have worked on hundreds. This causes me to think someone/former owner fabricated this bracketry or it was peculiar to the early 62 MGB. Any thoughts ?

Hi Jeff, when I first noticed it I too thought it was odd. I went on a hunt for it in parts catalogues but could not find it. When I get a chance I will scour the restoration photos I have and see if it is in place and I am planning a visit to see the guy who restored it and ask him if he remembers. His memory is failing though so he might not. Good eye by the way.

Hi Jeff, I did not see any images of it on the restoration pics but found a similar setup on a what I think is a 69 at this website: www.chicagolandmgclub.com/photos/b_heater/ Strange that I have not seen it referenced nor have I found any other images of one in my searches.

@@mgbsandotherstuff2982 Too much alike to be some home made unless, there was a batch made and offered. And on a 69 ? His is black, so not stock and painted at the factory. I'll assume your car has been repainted and someone decided to paint the bracket. Very curious.

Hi Jeff, it is a fuel, brake and clutch line heat shield, that I think made its appearance in about 1967. I kept googling cable "bracket", "shelf" or "guide" and finally hit upon it. They are available from suppliers and the PO probably added it for safety reasons.

Don't those transmissions have a metal cap that goes over the bendix where it protrudes from the bell housing?
