MGB temporary floor repairs… I’ve seen a lot worse

Today we’re back on the Teenagers 1971 MGBGT that we’ve found to be not near as solid as was first thought. Due to his budget and time considerations, but against what we would ever suggest to any of our customers, we are putting together a plan for a quick, yet sound temporary fix to get him back on the road. We discuss the two types of readily available floor pans for MGB’s and why sometimes it’s better to spring for the more expensive parts options that can actually end up saving you money in the long run. Then we move on to show how we’re going to cut the pans and weld in a temporary repair that will hold up well until he is ready to tackle a proper restoration of the rockers and floors on his GT.

Sounds like a good plan. I hate when the king rails are rotten too. The Heritage folk are great. You can buy a brnd new MGB shell from them. I don't know if they make the GT body as well.

He's a good size teenager ---- wonder how he came about getting such a small car for his size -------- That's nice to know about the sheet metal ----- where Heritage makes a proper pan and probably all other panels ------ It's like other companies making panels for say the Model A Ford ------ the Belt line isn't quite right ---- the bead rolls not the correct size --- and thinner material ---- So Thank you for pointing out the quality between the two ------ Have not torn into mine yet ------ Thanks again for the short tutorial on floor pans ------ Happy Easter to you ----- Hope you have a Good Week ----- Rodney

He already had an interest in these at about 12yrs old or so, then when he was 14 I took him for a ride in my BGT…. After that he was hooked. Believe it or not he has a desire for a Mini as well as a Midget too 😁

@@oxfletch I usually recommend anybody thinking about any of these cars to find someone who has one to at least sit in or preferably, take you for a ride in before you buy. Especially with the Triumphs as they were often designed by Italian design houses, and the seating position isn’t always comfortable for anyone who is relatively tall.

Thank you for the ideas. A question: since this is a temporary repair, what about fiberglass epoxy? Faster, cheaper and maybe stronger. Only suggesting since a short term inexpensive repair. Thank You, Mike

I don’t know, I don’t ever think in terms of glues an epoxies. They are used a lot in new car manufacturing and there is a lot of talk on the forums about using them.
