Modern feminist movies are the most anti-female movie there could be. Truthfully, I think that this is a movie about a girl who, up until she pushes herself, lives in a box that the world tells her she is capable of. This scene is a perfect example of her true self pushing through the barriers, but in an exceptable way in her circle
@Pikachu150 Жыл бұрын
Gotta disagree. Elle always pushed herself she just chose to be in a world of business, fashion specifically because it was what interested her and what she liked. Just like the theme of the movie you don't have to change who you are to excel and enjoy what you do. Elle just applied her knowledge and abilities in a different field without losing that same power, talent and knowledge.
@beth12svist Жыл бұрын
I think what I like most about this scene is that she shows she has the technical knowledge behind fashion. As a home sewist, I'm still not sure whether what she says here is true or just gibberish invented for the film; but that's kind of beside the point. The point - especially from the point of view of someone who sews - is that fashion as in "following fashion" may be shallow, but fashion as in _the production of clothes_ is a complex subject with expert knowledge. The point is that her interest in her subjects isn't shallow; she dives deep and learns to understand the workings of it. And I love that even this scene pertaining to her "shallow" interests shows there's power in knowledge.

This scene shows how Elle’s knowledge of fashion & beauty is valuable. It was valuable here because she saved herself from getting ripped off by that lady, and it was valuable at the end of the movie where she caught Chutney in a lie about washing her permed hair.
@Sdority905 Жыл бұрын
What, Chutney lied?!
@karicewillis Жыл бұрын
@@Sdority905 Yep, Chutney falsely claimed she was washing her hair when her father was shot by Brooke, which is why she didn't hear the gunshot. Elle asked her what she had done earlier that day. Chutney said,"I woke up, got a latte, went to the gym, got a perm, and came home." Elle has a look of,"Chutney's lying!" When Chutney says,"Perm." Elle questions Chutney washing her hair the same day after getting a perm because her curls were still intact because washing your hair the same day after getting a perm would risk deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate which has to stay in permed hair for at least 24 hours. She even points out a girl named Tracy did a wet T-shirt contest the same day as getting a perm and her curls were ruined. Elle soon screams at Chutney that since her curls were still intact, she was NOT washing her hair (For some odd reason, the trial seemed to take place about a week after Haywood was murdered and not like a year or more later) . Elle says that she would have had to have found Brooke standing over Haywood's dead body with gun in hand to make her story plausible. Elle then says,"You had plenty of time to hide the gun after you shot your father, didn't you, Chutney?" Chutney says,"I didn't mean to shoot him! I thought it was YOU walking through the door(Pointing at Brooke, Brooke looks shocked) and the crowd gasps and Chutney gasps, covers her mouth and has a look of horror as if thinking,"I can't believe I just confessed that in Court!" The crowd excitedly chatted in shock and The Judge says,"Order, order!" And bangs her gavel and says,"Oh my God! " Brooke and Elle also said,"Oh my God." The Judge orders the Bailiff to take Chutney into Custody and the Bailiff leads Chutney away as Chutney has a "What have I done and said?" Expression. The Judge dismisses the Brooke Case and tells her she is free to go. The Courtroom erupts into happy applause and Brooke hugs Elle and thanks her. Outside of Court, a Journalist asks Elle how she knew Chutney was lying. Brooke says,"Because she's brilliant of course." Elle says,"The rules of hair care are finite. Any Cosmo Girl would have known." Some men open a door for her and she thanks them and leaves. 😀

The stitching is awful, the materials are cheap, and the clothing itself was made in a sweatshop. These stores hide behind their brand and over charge for items that shouldn't even grace a landfill. I've only gone because I was a tagalong to a friend who genuinely liked these establishments. She's hardworking that if she put her mind to something, she can absolutely do it. Like she said to Warner "I'll show you what Elle Woods is really made of". Not to mention her heart and kindness is immeasurable that she even became friends with her enemy, didn't expose the professor for taking advantage of her, and didn't press the "suspect" in the witness stand to get the truth like other attorney subsitute. I've been thinking a lot about this scene in the light of the sag-aftra strike. Actors who play small parts like this are getting shafted by greedy Studios even though they're actually so important to making most films work. Technically they could have had one of the Delta Nu girls recount the story as encouragement when L is studying for her LSAT but it would not have worked nearly as well. Additionally having the actress has their to work off almost certainly made Reese Witherspoon's performance better. Multiple actors have come forward to say that Studios have been using CGI to cut their performances together and that's made things a lot harder imagine how much worse it would be if the studios got their way and replaced background characters with AI

It shouldn't be surprising that she'd end up becoming a great lawyer - attention to detail at the level of remembering a random dress from a catalogue from a year ago is absolutely a transferable skill to a profession where in addition to being a good public speaker, and ideally having a winning personality, remembering obscure facts about rulings from old cases is essential.

There's an old saying about how men fall in love through their eyes and women fall in love through their ears. It's funny how if men used their ears more, they could discern quality of character better, though women will also be excessively agreeable and hide their brains.

Reese Witherspoon was the whole movie of this film that I really enjoyed. And the 2nd one, too, again.

If a store or boutique was that rude, I wouldn’t bother funding them. Shop elsewhere if they can’t be respectful

I would like to remind everyone that fashion degrees are usually very, very competitive programs and they usually go through a university's business school. They are anyrhing but a MRS degree.

Why would the sales lady try and sell her a lower price item. They get bonuses to sell expensive items not clearance. Also, women that are into fashion and can afford to buy it will know who the designers are and what the new line is. It is such an odd scene.

She also just alienated a customer. A smarter move would just be to play up a more recent dress.

It's a plot device to show off Elle's smarts. Being agreeable scores low of the dramatic conflict scale.

My one complain about this movie was the slogan written under the title “going where no blonde has gone before”. If blonde had have been replaced with any other human trait it would have been considered unacceptable.

Since it was "a year ago" it's now classified as "rags".

I dated a girl who thought this movie was her life coach. Ironically enough she graduated from Boston University.

Never underestimate how much knowledge goes into fashion. New stuff comes out every three months, so it becomes impossible to keep up with the sellers unless you are buying and trying out new stuff constantly and build your knowledge through experience.
