Even with Sunbreak's crazy fast combat...nothing prepares you for GU Garuga. Insta charges,insta 180 beak slams,poisonous tail spins...this thing makes Primordial Malzeno look like a Vespoid. Garuga triple carted me so hard in village high rank that even my character from MH Freedom felt it.
@AcediaIX9 ай бұрын
When did Yian Garuga became difficult? Been fighting EX garuga for ages and it never gave me difficulties, sure, it doesn't have hit lags and can immediately attack after an attack, like barioth but worse, but GU has a lot of tools with counters and damage negation.... Well, of course I'm an adept lance user so it might just be me
@UFOToaster9 ай бұрын
It's not that he's difficult,but rather very unpredictable (to me at least). And the reason why i even struggled against him is because i haven't played GU in literal months. Usually when i find a fight challenging i just take aerial SnS/Swag axe,half of the hunt the monster is mounted and downed,ready for free hits. That particular hunt i was doing adept SnS and me not fully knowing his combos and such made the fight sloppy. Otherwhise,yeah,with practice you can learn any fight. That's what MH is all about.

I kid you not,it took me 17 attempts to kill him,while Fio and my 2 OP Healing cats were constantly keeping me on life support xD On my 17th attempt i was on my final cart and 38 minutes into the hunt,the clutch was real,but i made it in the end. xD I hated his guts,but Primordial Mal became my favorite fight in all of Sunbreak. I find your point about GU not being for beginners funny since Gen was my first time ever touching anything Monster Hunter, not even knowing its existence as a franchise beforehand. While it did take a bit of time for me to warm up to it, once it clicked with me I became a superfan. So I would say a beginner could start with Gen or GU, though yeah, World or Rise would be better entry points lmao.
@jimjimson62088 ай бұрын
I never really understood people who say 'X isn't a good place for beginners' like the entire series didn't have new players joining with every release. This is a bit of a tangent, but when recommending the Dark Souls games I always recommend to start with the first one and play them in release order, because doing it the opposite way will make the jank aspects of the old games even more painful. I think it is kind of the same with Monster Hunter, although old Monster Hunter jank is definitely worse than Dark Souls 1. But I still think there is an argument that you will probably enjoy both the older and newer games better if you start with a classic game. I remember playing Tri for the first time as an idiot 12 year old back in 2012 and having a blast even though I didn't really understand anything (I played through all of low rank without realising that skills, elemental damage, hitzones, sharpness, most of the craftable consumables, etc. even existed). I think people overthink the 'optimal' place to jump into the series. Just pick one that you think looks cool and you will probably enjoy it.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is a wonderful game to go back to, or if you were a BIG fan of Monster 3U/4U, it will be for you. But even for those folks, the biggest draw back to MH:GU is there is ALOT of content...And I mean ALOT, and the progression is definitely more whack in comparision to afformentioned games and the more modern ones. Village/Hub Low, High and G-Rank Deviant Monsters grinding from Low to G-Rank Hyper Monster Advanced Hyper Monsters EX Monsters Prowler Mode which leads to Palicoe Building/Dojo Training/etc ALOT of questing between Village and Hub to unlock urgents and extra special stuff. (Even if you can one-shot kill monsters and ONLY kill Key Quest, it still takes you over 10 hours to finish the game) And along with that, Progression in general is all over the place. Unlock High Rank and you get access to ADVANCED HYPER hunt that is on part or more of G-Rank and you get steam-rolled and so forth. For me, since I LOVED 4U I am enjoying my time in GU immensely. But even I can see that the game have ALOT of rough-edges here n there, and I can see New Players getting utterly lost/frustrated with the game. World simply has alot of great Quality of Life changes from these games, progression is more balanced to follow, and ONLY once you hit end High Rank/Master Rank do you get more grindy content, but those are still straight forward.

GU has only 2 flaws, one is that it doesn't have Dalamadur the best monster ever made, the second is that it's hard to choose a weapon with so many ways to play. Other than those 2 flaws the game is absolutely perfect and the pinnacle of the series. Much better than World in every category.
@Jose_Ruiz9328 ай бұрын
My persona flaw is that there is too much content, specifically in low rank and high rank. In my opinion, the best part of the game is everything after High Rank, but it takes soooooo long to get there if your doing a normal play through. Once you reach past high rank tho, I don’t mind all the content. MHGU feels like it’s a celebration to the series, so I feel as if it’s catered to people already used to classic monster hunter. I feel Low rank and High rank should like, 1 quest dedicated to each monster so you only repetitively fight them if you want their stuff. I feel LR/HR should have less of a focus on side quests and content, and instead just be used as a tutorial to get newer players up to speed and have old players just collect the materials needed for G Rank, and put all the side content in G rank and have it be the main focus. A lot of the side content in LR/HR is weapons and armor that get replaced in GR anyways, so maybe at most, if LR and HR need side context, just dedicate the canteen stuff. The only reason why I say this is again, Generation ultimate feels like it’s meant to cater to vets who what to spend countless hours grinding and messing around in G rank. It’s also why I argue lowkey that 4U is the best classic monster hunter, since the content in Low/High rank feels more engaging and less like filler than in Generations U.
@AdamSinsuat8 ай бұрын
@@Jose_Ruiz932people who like GU and Frontier are those too focused on fighting monsters and wanting to fight all of them. I call these people hack and slash junkies and not real hunters. Heck, they can also be in the same category as MMO players that like grinding
@Jose_Ruiz9328 ай бұрын
@@AdamSinsuat and tbh I’m the same way. I like fighting every single monster over and over to collect their equipment. I grind them needlessly more than needed. It’s just that LR/HR has you fighting them again after already grinding them. For example, a monster would be available in the 3 star quests, so you grind that quest for materials, but then that same monster appears again twice in the 4 star quests. It would have been nice to just get all 3 quest available at the same time so I can juggle them as I grind the same monster for variety, instead I’m stuck with one quest to grind and once I’m done I got 2 other quests of filler. It’s not necessarily a flaw, just more of a personal gripe. I’m someone who likes to complete every mission, so it sucks when I’m grinding for rath armor and I do the same quest 9 times to collect all the materials, then do the quest 2 more times later just cause those 2 other quests weren’t available to me yet. I would have preferred to do each quest 3 times, rather than 1 quest 9 times and then 2 additional quests that I only did for completion. All of this just for me to throw the armor away anyways cause HR armors aren’t worth collecting because of G rank armors.

You act as if this is some ancient game from days long forgotten. We got this in 2018. Fun game though, although I do find it a little bloated. MH4U still reigns supreme IMO.

I don't understand the logic behind your closing statement. "I only played MHGU to see how it aged (nostalgia). For newer players, I would never recommend GU... I can make this claim because I have played a lot of MH games... GU is for people who want to invest 100+ hours in a challenging video game... Therefore, I recommend World because it's 'the biggest egg out there' (more popular)." The time investment and difficulty is the issue here? That excuse for throwing GU under the bus sounds like you're coping, because every MH game could fall under that same criticism. All of them take about 80 hours to get through and have varying degrees of difficulty in regard to their mechanics. Being overwhelmed by the different movesets of Styles, Hunter Arts, the sheer amount of content in GU is understandable, but did you really have to do it only to suck off World right at the very end? The action of giving up now and then instantly sucking off World implies that people who get used to World and beyond cannot (or will not) learn and adapt in order to overcome difficulty, and must be catered to accordingly. It's fine if you don't want to play MHGU anymore, to me this seems like really destructive way to advertise your World content. I would think that someone who has put so much time and effort into making videos for MHGU wouldn't want to drive people away from it, but attract more people to it so that they could find some enjoyment in the game that you clearly used to enjoy. As someone who started in Tri (which is much easier than MH1 or MH2), MHGU is by far the the most comfortable, and welcoming game out of Generation 1-4 MH. If you really get into it, MHGU has the largest variety of combat options out of any MH game, if you're willing to give non-meta Styles a chance. With that said, would you even consider recommending *any* of the older titles as an "introductory MH game" over World?

I love mhgu but for the love of god the trap hitbox is so small and precise that its literally in the monster feet and its not triggering. Also I always forgot to bring extra in capture quest.

Absolute Evasion or Absolute Readiness will be so much more value than Sakura Slash on Valor LS: not only is it a massive amount of s but Sakura Slash has very little use since it can't level up the valor gauge. Plus if you eventually got to EX deviants they're such stupid fights that you're basically forced into using the safer styles like Adept since the Valor parry chip damage is too high. If you want something that's good for a lot less effort then go for Adept Hammer, it takes almost zero skill other than being okay at timing rolls and hitting the monster's head and the sheer amount of damage it shits out for no reason is honestly pretty absurd, really fun weapon

If you want to really enjoy GU get somebody who is kinda bad at Monster Hunter and play with them as a Prowler. Not only are they inherently funny to play as but Prowlers also negate a lot of annoyances of old monster hunter mechanics like breakable tools and temperature drinks to name a few and they can skill into other mechanics to make a lot of annoying things like the various status effects irrelevant, they can constantly track the monster, they don't need to tranq bomb and they have a Rise esque capture indicator for monsters. Unless fully specced for damage they're infinitely weaker than a Hunter but there's so many support aspects they can use and a lot of the annoying aspects of old monster hunter are just not mechanics for the Prowler as long as you can get used to that god awful pre World aiming reticle

Base rise was actually quite fun, but for many longtime fans, this is the last monster hunter game. A fitting swan song.

As someone who has been play since Tri and every mainline game since and I can say that GU is definitely a bit unforgiving to newer players. Even as a Monster Hunter veteran I still find myself making mistakes almost as if I just started playing the franchise for the first time and World is definitely a good place to start your journey.
