@@sukiyomie Don't really care about that problem, never been much of a problem for me, but would absolutely love being able to hold a button to continue gathering, being able to move in any direction (rather than clunky 8-directional movement), not needing to bring picks and bug nets with me, and all multiplayer quests being tuned to the number of players participating. I was able to complete most of the multiplayer quests solo, but holy crap, at least if you run SnS (my preferred weapon), some of the later ones are nearly impossible just because you can't get your DPS high enough to kill within the time limit, no matter how aggressive you are. Otherwise, other than wishing it was on other systems, there's not much I'd change about 4U. My all time favorite.

GU is the peak of the classic, the culmination of gen 1 through gen 4, you cannot say that classic is better than the modern one and vice versa, they are just different, the classics ends with generations ultimate, and they go out with a bang, the name itself "Generations Ultimate" is pretty fitting tbh Gen 5 and onward is the new era of Monster Hunter the natural evolution of the game i always think to myself that gen 5 onward is the spiritual successor to the classic era, if there's ever gonna be another new era of monster hunter in the future, i hope that the modern games can also give us a final game like GU

One of the other great lessons Great Maccao teaches is about "danger zones" or, zones around the monster you want to avoid being in because they can attack you faster than you can react and avoid. With Maccao, it's those little tiny kicks. They won't kill you, just be annoying enough for you to realize "shoot, I should stop being right in front of this guy". Another lesson is something that leads right into Valstrax, and that is stance changing. Maccao on its tail and on its feet has access to different attacks, and you can adjust your play style based on that. Similarly, Valstrax does different attacks based on whether its engines are faced forwards or backwards, and you can similarly approach him differently based on which stance he is in.

It absolutely doesn't require loading screens to get that perception of scale. Just a simple zoom-out fade-out as the character starts walking a path... then cinematically coming back in. Maybe a couple times with an intermediate zone looking down. Just like how thick vines / fast travel works in World, there's a cinematic entrance to the zone via wingdrake before you regain control. Also allows much more interesting terrain and set pieces when not everything needs to be walkable.

4U is the best one imo, very cold take I know, but it’s just the most well rounded game overall. Didn’t experiment or introduce any crazy new concepts, just doubled down on what worked and greatly succeeded at it. I generally prefer GU for its combat, monster roster and map selection but it probably has the worst grind loops in the series. G-rank hypers don’t feel playtested. I feel like MHWI could have easily been the best if it had just streamlined less mechanics, avoided the live-service approach to prevent monster and weapon power creep and patch out the clutch claw/claggers entirely.

Strongly agree, I think 4U is the best balanced of any MH from roster, to story, to equipment, etc. The hardest content felt insanely hard (GQ 140 Shagaru Magala demolished me and my hunting buddies) but also completely doable with enough preparation and practice
@The_Mewster69
@The_Mewster69 5 ай бұрын
What do you mean it didn’t experiment or try any new concepts? 4U had a lot of new mechanics that weren’t seen in the series up until its release. Things like mounting, frenzy and apex monsters, GQ leveling system and even weapon augmentation was introduced in 4U so to say that it just stuck with what worked it doing it a disservice tbh.
@lonradb
@lonradb 5 ай бұрын
@@The_Mewster69 Perhaps I should have clarified that it didn’t wholly revolutionise the real-time gameplay like previous games did. Mounting was like the biggest thing to come out of the game in that regard and I wouldn’t necessarily say that it shook up the formula as much as underwater, the slinger, or wirebugs did for their respective titles.
@The_Mewster69
@The_Mewster69 5 ай бұрын
@@lonradb Sure it didn’t revolutionize the series much in terms of combat or anything but it still introduced some major mechanics that pretty much have become staples since. The Frenzy/Apex mechanic is pretty much the reason we’ve had hypers, tempered, afflicted and whatever powered up state Wilds may introduce. This alone pretty much makes it one of the games in the franchise with a huge impact to how the rest of the series would develop and I think it’s important to keep in mind the effect of mechanisms like these and how they affect the game and not just weapon move set changes.

@@lonradb the way 4U played with elevation was pretty huge, it may not seem like a big deal for people now because of how standardized it's become, but the old Tigrex chase trailer (not the CG intro, but the old MH4 original trailer) depicted a level of player movement that seemed absurd for people only used to 3rd gen games.

Monsters are just slapped into the game without caring about clipping etc... its way too easy to just maneuver out of the way and straight up ignore attacks with Styles allowing special dodges or counters. Sunbreak is full of monsters who take a shit all over the deviants which I really love btw, they are some of my fav monsters. Hazard quests are 10,000x harder than deviants LOL and Special Investigations (anomaly) are a lot more engaging than the deviant grind. Rise even though its a base game, was more fun to grind than deviants as well, rampage weapons changed the MH base game because you could craft weapons. Deviant equipment sits in your box and never gets used. Rampage weapons get used a lot. I love the deviants, but the grind is booty. REengine, has allowed the devs to get a lot better at creating tighter hitboxes and monster skeletons, which means you the hunter, have to be a lot more precise with your timings. Even with counters etc... youre more limited than what styles allowed. Monsters AI is improved as well, GU doesnt even come close to Sunbreak, in terms of monsters reacting to you the hunter. Risebreak, was built from the ground up to improve the fluidity of combat, GU was just slapping monsters into a game to celebrate. Theres a massive difference between the two.

At 4:55 when you said that's not why you play Monster Hunter when it comes to the unique imaginative zones, I personally would say that THAT is half the reason why I play Monster Hunter, because part of hunting is to step into the world of that monster, where it lives, so the way the maps are designed add to the personality of the monster and the surrounding habitats it inhabits. Ofcourse MHGU is peak Monster Hunter! Think about it, you need to carry hot and cold drinks with you to essentially survive the hunt. Need baits, bugnets and pickaxes, which you can also craft in the field. You can use paintballs to track the monster. Every action needs actual commitment, be it sharpening, gathering or drinking potions. The world is vibrant with a fantastic variety of monsters from the previous games. The armor and weapon designs are plentiful and distinct. This is worth owning a physical copy of so that you can play offline long after they remove it from the digital stores and even shut down the servers. This is an actual masterpiece!

This is coming from someone who played Rise first, then Worlds and then GU, btw. I know I am fairly new to the series, but I want Capcom to understand that duming down doesn't necessarily create lasting appeal. There is merit in running the gauntlet of learning a difficult gameplay loop. And it is this rigor and difficulty that retains the audience in the first place. That and good, innovative, unique gameplay design and atmosphere.
@danthornley2210
@danthornley2210 2 ай бұрын
@@_ryju_respectfully disagree. The later games took out a lot of the management issues not to "dumb it down," but because the "difficulty" it adds isn't real, it's just disrespectful of people's time. It's not "difficult" to drink a hot drink. It's not "difficult" to have to carry bugnets and "limited" whetstones. It's not "difficult" to spend 10 minutes running from zone to zone looking for the monster because the paint wore off. It's not "difficult" to gear down specifically for gather missions because you don't gave inventory space if you're properly geared for an actual fight. It's not "difficult" to go into a dumb quest and end because your food skill didn't trigger. All of these things only waste your time, they do not make the core gameplay - hunting monsters - any more difficult. I like this game. Started with Tri, and played every game since. Really like this game's actual gameplay modification by Hunting styles and Arts. But I always recognized that the whole "preparedness" and simply having the right juice in your inventory aspect always was a waste of time.
@_ryju_
@_ryju_ 2 ай бұрын
@@danthornley2210 To each their own. But, in my books every one of the things you listed counts towards difficulty. Inventory management takes thought and time, hence it adds to an extra layer. If you break actions down, then only spacing, movement and timed attacks and dodges counts as difficulty, however in my books that term encompasses a lot more than you are giving it credit for. In a game of starcraft, if you break down each of the actions, then building barracks is not difficult, neither is so-called tediously assigning workers to collect minerals and gas, however keeping all of the layers in mind and doing them in the right order and at the right moment is what makes it the hardest multiplayer game till date IMO. That is what APMs are all about. Diablo 3 simplified inventory management by having all of them take up the same space, which made it a worse game and a more arcade oriented game and is also the reason why most people agree D2 was the best Diablo. Thankfully, Path of Exile carried that torch into the future generations. A bunch of seemingly simple actions taken at the same time is the crux of a strategy game. A hunt was a strategic art, and I preferred it that way. Now, it has become an arcade boss rush unfortunately.

@@danthornley2210The hunter has to think ahead and stock up on whetstones, he has to be mindful that it has a been a while and he should probably top up the paintball. He has to carry bugnets and pickaxes to gather things and more importantly sacrifice movement and being able to defend while collecting resources. It is a conscious sacrifice/compromise which breeds a sense of commitment to the actions which adds a tactical layer. I really thought the drinks added a much-needed layer of immersion and difficulty as well! And tactical forethought is absoltely considered as difficulty in videogames!! Think of having a perfect loadout in a SWAT game, would you not count that as difficulty? Having a good loadout in an Ace Combat game, would that not count towards complexity and hence difficulty? Buying the correct items in a MOBA game? Having the correct build order in a RTS? You can argue that it is tedious, but in the same vein anything except for raw attacking can be labelled as tedious. A person who likes on-rails shooters would call Call of Duty tedious since you have to move there as well!

@@danthornley2210 Still, I absolutely understand where you are coming from. I think they can address this by adding a "legacy" or a "realistic" difficulty option in the games, where the base form would have the more action oriented straight-to-the-point gameplay and one can opt for the slower prepared approach. I think that would be really good use of difficulty options, even though I am really against fake difficulties in other video games. Appreciate your reply!

Nakarkos truly is one of the most brilliant monsters ever made. It does the EXACT same thing that we hunters do. It hunts other monsters, and uses their parts to create new weapons for itself; so it can hunt ever larger and ever stronger prey to gain newer, stronger weapons. I love it so much.

Making the maps divided into loading screens creates the feeling of a much bigger world, ironically. You can let to your imagination the time it takes for the hunter to move into each area, and the distance too. The deserted island feels way smaller in Sunbreak than in the classic games, everything is so crammed.

I think that we can still recreate that feeling of distance or height in the new MHs. Take for example Elden Ring: you can technically see the Mountain Tops of the Giants from Limgrave, the very first area, but only its cliff. Then, once you are there, the change in the skybox an the sea of clouds below make it seem like you are in a higher area.

@@hive_of_bees I'm interested to see if Wilds is some kind of wild (ha) hybrid fusion of World/Rise's style and the Old Style of the games. The map that we've seen so far seems more open, more vast and varied and interesting, but I'm concerned that certain landmarks that we can see (Like the funny stone circle that gets shown off a lot) won't be areas we can actually go to. The Seikret being so woven into the game as a core feature unlike the Motor Bike Doggos also seems interesting, like the vibe could be a lot more... wild (ha) west-y, and the last time we had that was Monster Hunter 4/4G, so I'm excited to see Wilds and I hope the team takes all the time they need to make it as good as they can.

I honestly think 4U is the best, GU is great and all but i feel it's a game for veterans of the series, it has the largest number of monsters but no context for them. In 4U not only is it a great way to experience the way the old games but is has without question imo the best story telling. I also think 4U has an easy low rank but a very challenging end game which again i think is great for new comers. I do however agree GU has by far the most combat options

I think World and Rise are an in-between point for the franchise. It’s the size of the old maps, without the loading zones, which make them feel smaller in a way. But I think Wilds will have big enough maps that bring back that massive scale feeling the old games give off, without having to take advantage of loading screens. They will just actually be THAT big. Between the gameplay we’ve been shown, and the addition of mounts, I think it will straight up be that big. Might just be hopium though.

Dunno man sounds a lot like nostalgia. Although not to the same extend as vortex pinnacle both the ancient forest and the coral highlands have a similar journey of being able to journey from the very underbrush and lowest point in the map to the very top of the ancient forest main tree where Rathalos nest is as well as the Coral Highlands where you also ascend above the clouds to meet elder dragons such as Kirin. Although it’s not as extreme the journey is still there and I think with Wilds this’ll be even further exemplified with larger maps that can convey the type of distance travelled with the older games. U say the journey is inconvenient and may take a while but doesn’t that add to the experience of being a hunter tracking down a monster? I think it’d be way cooler if the vortex pinnacle didn’t have a loading screen and getting to the top was a challenge in itself

Honestly, I just love that Capcom builds so much importance in games being unique. Each game in the series has a completely unique experience and a reason to go back to it again and again. There is only one generation, 1 world, and 1 rise. Sequels are special in this series because they do not just replace what came before it, and they are one of a kinda. I can see myself going back to generations in 10 years because it is the only game that feels like generations and the same for the other titles. That is something that is rare in modern gaming

I hope this explains it well enough but if not, I'll pin this comment so other people can chime in! So you can actually play with friends from the very start! It's a bit more streamlined in world and rise but you can play through the whole game solo or multiplayer if you want. As for what kind of game it is, you could think of it sort of like a boss rush? Basically you start off in the village, chose one of 14 weapons, then go out to hunt a monster in these maps that are separated into a few zones. Fighting the monsters gives you materials to upgrade your weapons and armor. The game is all about learning the monster's attack patterns and the capabilities of your weapon while gradually getting stronger and fighting bigger and stronger monsters.

Gameplay wise is almost similar to the souls games but the bosses take a lot longer to kill and feel like actual animals (most of the times) the game atmosphere is very light-hearted but not childish, it's a very chill fun game to play with friends after school or work, you go hunt a few monsters all together for that armour or weapon you want to craft or upgrade with the"monsters parts" and it can be a fun easy experience or a challenging one depending on the monster you are hunting, real fun If you want a game with good graphics and nice fights go for monster hunter world If you like more fast paced gameplay and would like to fight a ton of monsters from the older games but reworked for the newer games get monster hunter rise One small nitpick is that both games are astronomically better with their respective DLC because they add a ton of content and harder but more enjoyable fights

I love the MH series, but World just feels like it's on a whole other level, and my favorite part of it has got to be the environment. The older games had some cool enviromental interactions, but it wasn't anything crazy, but in World, you just stop and look around for a sec, and boom! You see that wall covered in fungi? Why don't you run up that and do an air attack! Or oh, that pile of stones on the ground? Pick em up and use the clutch claw to fire the monster into a wall! Those poisonous plants? Use them to poison the monster! Maybe try and lead two monsters together for a turf war! The list goes on! It is worth noting the only MH games I have actually played and beaten are 4U, GU and World, though I played 4U and GU when I was way younger so I might not remember just how good they could be.

What makes GU my favorite monster hunter is hunting styles. I've been screaming and begging for those to come back. It made it feel like you had 84 different weapons. The variety and customization were crazy. Even if you didnt like something about a weapon, there was probably a style that fixed it and made it fun. I never liked ranged weapons, but in GU, I ended up playing valor HBG. I loved the power run, which made the weapon feel way more mobile which was my biggest problem with HBG, as well as the crouching fire. I wish they'd bring back in a new monster hunter. I need them to bring GU to pc or at least playstation and xbox so more people can get a chance to play it. I dont want this game to end up being lost to time.

The biggest issue with world ai vs old ai that gets really annoying when you notice it is 5th gen monsters run away from you just to do ranged attacks which totally makes the pace annoying because you have to go run up to them instead of them just using it point blank still or only whipping it out at the correct range already. Its not like this is for realism either since any projectile would do more damage point blank or close to it then with time for energy to fall off anyway

I started World 2018 and noticed something immediately... The game is easy af. I am not joking. You want combine something? Ok no fails at all. You need some ores? You have a pickaxe everytime without losing a slot. You run out of potions? I got you bro! Just return to camp! You understand what I mean? I hope. The feeling of running out of potions was insane. If u kill your arch enemy after running out was such a extremly nice feeling. I remember a lot of hunts like this. Kushala, first time, running out of potions, running around the map to get some new stuff back and then killing him. The feeling was INSANE! World never ever gife me such "release" feelings. Imagine a World / Rise player fighting the old Freedom Unite Fatalis xD They already complain about him being to strong in world. Yeah... My guy try to kill him without going back and restock your stuff! Kill him with hard limited slots! Prepare for a win or lose fight! If someone says "I am a good player! I killed Fatalis solo!" I immediately ask "In the old games?" if they say "In World / Rise (maybe Wilds later)" I start laughing. Sorry not sorry but this Fatalis is easy and not hard at all. If u have a big ego because of killing Fatalis in this games I will bring you down to reality. But if you are just a nice guy / women I will say nothing and will not laugh. I had a lot of this situations and I will never change my mind. Fatalis solo in the new games means not that you are a good player. Or in other words "Not such a good player that you can have an ego bigger than Mount Everest"

I'm not against changes and gimmick mechanic, but when you changed it too much for example Hunting Horn in MHRise is so awful when compared to already perfected Hunting Horn in MHWorld, its just left you a bad taste for older fans like me. as a 4U player, my main issue with modern gen is how much different *all* of the design style is. since they can make high poly, ultra detailed monsters, all of world had really overdesigned monsters compared to traditional designs. But the charm of MH for me was that they were built cartoony and rugged. the more HD they become the more fragile and dainty as well, which really takes away from the vibe like the generic orchestral music and uncompressed sound design. clunky combat, and systems of inconvenience like manual crafting, finite whetstones, hot and cold drinks, etc are some more reason why i prefer old rather than new, it forces you to pay attention, develop more skills, make sacrifices. The old games were about being a hunter, where modern gen MH is like being a soldier, which is not what i had hoped for. it looks like the classic design style is gone forever which is really saddening because its like my favorite franchise suddenly turned into something completely different. and there is no hope for anything to change due to how popular convenience and realistic graphics has gotten MH. its really hard for me to understand why people prefer the realistic graphics for MH when the lowres textures looked perfect and fit the rugged vibe like the tribal style UI or people speaking in grunts like cavemen instead of the unimaginative coherent speech in modern gen. the low poly models made for solid and compact designs that didnt have small but overdetailed features like anjanath's nose thing or tobi's bland body frame contrasted by its overdetailed quills and fur. modern gen to this day is still unrecognizable to me, its hard (for me) to see the new games as anything more than your average action game with MH combat and occasional monsters from MH thrown in. its like if Angkor Wat was demolished and renovated with different materials and less decorative architecture. yes its more advanced, but besides technology, its only an upgrade if you didnt care for what was. yes i will compare MH4U to a UNESCO world heritage site

Honestly starting from World and experiencing the series for the first time all the way back to FU was such a trip, 4U has to be my favorite. I wish these older titles would be remastered, as I felt a sense of nostalgia for these games that I never played. I love wilds and was taken away by it, I had a great time with the demo, but it still doesnt quite scratch that "itch" that I have for the older style of games. Hopefully, fan servers will be up sometime for the 3ds titles, I'll finally bother to mod my 3ds when that happens for sure.

The fact that Generations can compete with Rise/World (albeit for different reasons) is just a total win. I really feel like every game since Tri has been extremely playable/enjoyable. (Not saying the first two games in the series aren’t good.. just that they are really hard to play/enjoy.)

Real talk? I think Dos is the best game in terms of immerson, FU in terms of difficulty and git goodness, GU for contents, World for attention to detail, and Rise for combat. The only bad monster hunter game is a cancelled monster hunter game. MH1 is good but its more of an all around in stead of a specific strength

As someone who started the series with Tri I agree that individual entries have their strengths, but I genuinely don't find MH1 playable. Between the uncomfortable controls and the frankly frustrating aspects of old school design I can't do MH1. Freedom 1, to me, feels like a complete version of MH1 where it's more approachable. Better controls, a balanced farm that cuts down on some of the insane resource grind MH1 and G are notorious for without being broken like the modern farm, and more. SnS is kinda broken in Freedom 1 though. Generations Ultimate imo just has way too much content. It almost feels like Frontier in that way, where there is so much stuff that it can be overwhelming. Freedom Unite, at least in my opinion, strikes a good balance. There is a lot of content but it's more gradually introduced so you don't feel overwhelmed. And I personally don't find Freedom Unite to be particularly challenging until G Rank, but I also played solo Bowgun which tbf kind of trivializes most of the Elder quests, and until late in High Rank in Guild. 9 Flame shots to kill a Low Rank Gypceros with Low Rank gear lmao.

@@765craven4 As someone who adjusted to the controls in Dos, you get used to them. It honestly feels weirdly satisfying for attacks to be on the stick, you can see their vision. I haven't played 1 yet but 2 is incredibly immsersive in the town building and SUPER difficult, way harder feeling than FU even in Low Rank but it makes triumph feel all the better. The portable games are totally different games from the games they are drawn from and you miss out on certain aspects.

Honestly, as much as I enjoy FU, a lot of the difficulty IS artificial. There is no "get good" ness about how ridiculous chip damage from tails is, etc. But it's still a great game. I do agree about Dos, and I honestly feel like it's a better game than FU after playing through village.
@765craven4
@765craven4 5 ай бұрын
@@JeanKP14 A big part of old school MH was more about learning to position so you're never in the path of an attack, or to block it, rather than dodge through them. I think Khezu is a great example of that, and tries to teach that lesson since melee players literally just can't stay near it for very long due to the tail spin and lightning. Tigrex is a much harder version of Khezu in that way, where weapons without a shield can't challenge a lot of his moves, making positioning super important against him.
@JeanKP14

@@765craven4 Oh yeah, I know. I started with Tri, then went back to FU and learned that the very hard way. And now I've played Dos' village, and believe me the small monsters in FU are nothing compared to LOW RANK in Dos. There are so many. The PSP can't handle that many. They are like G rank aggressive in LR. It's insane LOL. But it teaches you to clear the screen out of small monsters before you even think of trying to hit the large monster that's going to two-hit KO you. Tigrex I actually learned to love with GS. I don't feel comfortable with really any other weapon with him in any game. He enjoys turning into triple charges like an idiot and getting staggered. It's risky and scary, but hilariously not actually dangerous with practice unlike a lot of other weapons where you will just get hit for daring to attack him

My absolute FAVORITE thing about this games aesthetic is the fantastical and almost otherworldly presentation of normal environments! 8:16 showcases this but i think its wonderful that instead of simply creating a typical and believable set of environmental backgrounds they chose to make incredibly imposing and painting like environments for the player to gaze into, supporting this feeling that whilst the hunters and villages have learned to live in this world and even command some of the elements of it, at the end of the day, the natural environment they live in is still utterly frightening, awe-inspiring and indifferent to those that do not command its respect (lest we get more unusually malicious monsters like fatalis and Amatsu spawning every century). Following that is the way it feels to deal with these monsters. World to some extent manages to achieve this quite well (and unfortunately its lost completely in rise) but GU's monster encounters feel exciting and tense because of the balance of the items, weapon arts and styles. Granted the game starts to be a kind of silly with the late game monsters, some of the Hyper fights and the deviants (i WILL ERADICATE EVERY SILVERWIND NARGACUGA EVEN IF THE GUILD TRIES TO STOP ME), but i like it more when the fight feels in the monsters favor - when the impression of being on their home turf is supported - that my survival is incredibly dependent on my experience and understanding of its biology, environment and my ability to adapt to whatever comes my way. RAAAAGH ONE MORE THING! The sound design is IMMACULATE and is a slightly underrated aspect of world and th 4th generation games. Hitting a monster with a giant hunk of metal has never felt so good.

@@BlaizeTheDragon theres a reason why the base experience of playing a lot of indie games can feel so special, the sounds prioritise emotion and immediate association over realism! This is in part due to the lower budgets and time available to smaller game dev companies but it works in their favour! Ah theres a really good video about this topic I will link it when I find it again.

It always makes me a little sad to have to place GU as my least favorite monster hunter game but while I could list off all sorts of minor reasons for that (deviant system, hypers, my personal dislike for styles) what it really comes down to is its the first old style game I played, and god damn is it a terrible introduction to that. I wasn't really able to appreciate it until playing 3u and 4u and revisiting it. I do find it fun to play now but once I get to and beat ahtal-ka I dont know that I'll ever open it up again

I'm a pretty strong supporter of the idea that games are extremely subjective and that it's totally fine if two people have entirely different views on the same game. I think because games are inherently supposed to be fun, you should just play the ones you like! (that said, I don't blame you, I've got my fair share of issues with GU too lol)

Well, most OG monster hunter fans have the same answer of why generation ultimate is their favorite, cuz it's basically all of there series up to this one last show with everything it showed for all these years, showing how much the game changed each time you a new version comes out, a new hunter comes out, and now it's the last hunter to come out in the old generation, as all the monsters are on there last show pulling there all to make one last impression before being all shelved unit they get there new models, also the last boss ahtal ka, there's not going to be a boss like it, as it's basically you, the parts it builds it's mech dragon robot? That's the parts it got from destroying the castle or stronghold and it carving it's parts and making weapons and armor, it's basically shows you another you, and also the last phase with the wheel, it looks like the symbol for reincarnation in Buddhism, basically like that's one hell of a final game for the old generation, all the maps, all the monsters, all the years, all the hunts end in that one game, basically there isn't anything game that even close with what generations ultimate did, not resident evil and it hurts me to say this but not even halo 3.. even tho halo 3 was basically the best send off for the new dev team to replace them... 343 just suck and killed it after halo 4, basically this is the best way to end a generation of games to move to a new one/why the next game was called world and also called the new world

I love GU but GU was just slapping monsters into a game without really caring about the important details. This isnt a bad thing, its not a mainline title, but right from the get go, its nothing like rise, which is a game built from the ground up to be an experience that expands what monster hunter is, because G/GU existed in the past. Risebreak exists to cater to those who love a different taste of monster hunter, like GU and frontier, because World was just an abomination when it came to equipment, set/skill diversity, endgame systems, and "the grind". I love world, flaws and all so its okay, the new armour system just needed more skills, rather than boosted skills to really make it pop. They are 100% going to bring Deviants into mainline monster hunter. Rises apexs are freshly wounded by storms, they may not be deviants, but they definitely are in the middle ground between a normal monster, and a monster who has survived way too much bullsh- if you know what I mean. Apexs are more fun, and the rise grind for rampage weapons was a lot more fun than having an equipment box full of gear that never gets used. I love deviants, I love the fights, but the grind is just blah, and frankly not worth it. Deviants are going to be like the Hazard quests in the endgame of Sunbreak when they return. Apexs and Risens are just the beginning, Deviants will be a 1000x better. Rampage weapons, completely changed how we interact with a base game, and making hundreds of them, was a crazy amount of fun times. Playing all 14 weapons, is a nice change of pace, when I usually play a couple. I make hundreds of different sets, rather than a handful. World leaned into raw damage too much, so its nice to see them expand how much fun you can have with status/elem builds by creating an entire system for us to play with. Ramp up skills also turned low tier weapons into the meta rather than elder dragon weapons, so the apex monsters gave us new ways to play monster hunter, which was a nice touch. Wirebug skills are a lot more engaging, than what was in GU, but thats not to say GU was bad. GU was trying a whole plethora of new ideas, but in terms of combat fluidity, it was a miss. Rise, takes what GU was doing, and focuses on specific things, and enhance them by making the combat more fluid. Rather than styles or skills taking away from your moveset, they expand your movesets, they put more control in your hands. GUs combat is mouth wateringly good, so the fact that Rise leaned that much into skills, is really special to me! Leaning into frontier and deviant-esque ideas with the monsters fights, like with Primordial Malzeno, Lucent, Violet, and Espinas hazard quests makes me want them to lean into skills even more in brand new ways. Its not about one being better over the other, GU and frontier walked, so that Risebreak could run.

2:00 I think this illusion that the old game provide kinda falls apart if you didn't play them back when they came out. I've gone back to GU and 4U and while I appreciate the pretty skyboxes of the zones, my modern gamer brain did identify them as skyboxes, seeing through the illusion that is meant to immerse the player. That being said, I fully agree that this let them create these magical larger than life environments that aren't exactly possible with current tech, and especially with the seamless locales that Wilds is doing
