One more tip for helm breaker: the timing at which you press triangle will affect the parts of the monster you hit(press the button early and you will hit higher parts of the monster; press it late or just let it slash automatically will make you hit lower parts).

Well timed Iai spirit slash gives the attack 2x dmg and keeps meter Iai slash gives 30 sec of meter regen off a counter

Foresight was nerfed in Rise, it felt way more forgiving in World. In World if the Monster hits when the hunter was supposed to be before foresight it activated didn't matter if you used too early, Rise was less forgiving in this aspect but then Rise buffed Iai Spirit Slash with QS3. I'm playing both at the moment and seeing the differences is quite interesting.

I played rise a while ago on switch and loved it but world is wayyyy more fun to me idk why lol, but long sword is a new style I picked up and it’s kinda hard to get use to to keep combos going. wouldnt it be better to go different augmentations?: affinity1, health regen 1, element/status effect up 1? so you would have 95% maximum affinity when hitting weak and tenderized spots instead of 85%? Rather having almost guaranteed affinity than like 20 raw dmg isnt it ? And if u dont hit wounded parts, you would still be at 75% instead of 65%.. Am I wrong? Oo

Edit: after doing some research I see now maybe this was a better showcase now there are still in my eyes better monsters to showcase this build but I can see why you used the tempered version As much as I like the build I will say I feel you could’ve done a better test of this build by going up against a higher tiered monster like alatereon or higher. I do think the build is good just not showcased well since your using very op gear against a mid to low level boss

Maximum Might increases your affinity when your stamina is full but you lose stamina when you use Foresight Slash so it’s kinda counterintuitive but hey if you can don’t mind that then it’s a good skill for Longsword. For Coalescence, usually 1 point is enough unless you’re fighting against Coal heavy matchup like Teostra/Velkhana then 3 points is good.

Now that I’m in iceborne I feel squishy and now I just wear what’s best at the moment till I unlock the rest of the iceborne gears. It’s been a rough start on iceborne once I got past the first few missions, I had it easy in base game lmao. The real challenge is now !!

You have to have at least white level gauge which is level one of three. White, yellow, red which does the most damage and you must hit the monster with the R2+Triangle

one thing i like on my longsword is quicksheath and do spirit Ia slash not for practical reasons but to be anime af. I remember going through base world with the iceborne expac moveset and killing both diablos and nergi with the spirit ia slash.

⁠@@yourdad5799It’s great with Iai Spirit Slash counters. You can probably find a super impressive speedrun using frostcraft for that purpose. I think it’s situational tho because it’s only gonna be insanely good like that on monsters you understand so perfectly you can abuse Iai Spirit Slashes everytime they breathe. So yes it’s insane but a much higher skill ceiling than probably almost any other playstyle in the game to the point it’s not recommended for general hunting.

Don't need meter for foresight slash. Just needs to follow an attack. Slash or poke then foresight.

Incorrect you need to have some gauge. If you strike or poke and you don’t connect with the monster your foresight will not go through. By “slashing or poking” you’re building meter.

Getting off the counter with iai slash regularly is not humanly possible btw. The timing is less than average human reaction speed, if you get it off it was luck.

false. so goddamn false i wanna puke. first of, you mean frame, because its the on the slash that is small. the timing itself is literally just pixel perfect with the attack you wanna counter, which 95% of them are telegraphed long enough for you to react before it even happens, so not humanly impossible, because you had a second or two before the attack even comes at you, if you cant time it, it means you were busy doing something else than watching the monsters movements.

the only times it becomes "humanly impossible" is when you are trying to counter a random trip or charge from the monster when you are standing on its feet, but why would you even try to sheathe for that when you should be fade flashing or a foresight slashing?

Also the problem with Iai slash is not even the timing it is that it has so little s that you can"t even counter most attacks with it, because you still get hit.@@aligr3224

In Iceborne 95% of attacks are definitely NOT telegraphed long enough. It is also both the s and the timing of iai slash because the timing is determined by the amount of s. If you have a small amount of s you need to use the attack right before or even as the hitbox hits you because your s need to be around longer than the hitbox of the monsters attack is in frames.@@aligr3224
