By and large, they do. But where religions and their adherents run into trouble _ACROSS THE BOARD_ is with fundamentalism. Whether they're Christian fundamentalist, Hindu fundamentalist, Jewish fundamentalist, or the Taliban, that road only leads one way, toward complete and senseless *destruction.* When the far right wing gets their grips in a religion, no matter where they are across time or space on Earth, that is the end result. It is a tale as old as time throughout every iteration of human civilization.

Tell me, do you really think that peace could not be achieved after all this time? Considering all the wars, the conflicts that have happened since 1948 that THIS was the only conflict that a peaceful resolution could NOT be found? The reason that there is no resolution is because it took losing a few wars for the Arabs to realize that they weren't going to throw us into the sea. And that there is NO INTEREST on their part to achieve an answer. That would mean saying OUT LOUD and to the world and other Arabs that they lost to people they consider vermin. So don't tell me that its the Jews holding this up. We're just not willing to die to suit them. Besides it's to the Arabs political advantage to keep the Palestinians in DP camps. Most of the Arab countries have peace treaties with Israel but they are not interested in absorbing the "Palestinians" now anymore then they were in the 50's. Why doesnt the world do anything about the Jews that were expelled from the Arab countries in the 40's and 50s? You must know about them!! I mean you're so concerned about those that were treated terribly by their neighbours, wreaked havoc and pogroms on them and yes killed them. No I don't mean Israelis attacking Arabs. I'm talking about the race riots and the murder of Jews in Baghdad in the 40's in what is now known as The Farhad. How about returning the property and businesses and bank accounts and lands of the Jews that were kicked out of Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Algeria in the 40s and 50's?? Those Jews had lived in what became Arab lands for over a millenia and yet they were kicked out because they were Jews and no other reason. You know ALL THIS HAPPENED well before 1948 and yet I don't hear any moans of sympathy for them!!! MAYBE THAT'S BECAUSE THE WORLD DIDN'T CARE, AND THEY MOVED ON WITH THEIR LIVES BECAUSE THAT WAS ALL THEY HAD LEFT. THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED TO SIT IN DP CAMPS AND BECOME PROFESSIONAL REFUGEES AND PASS THEIR STATUS UNTO THEIR CHILDREN. Arabs like to moan and whine and cry when this happens to them but they have NO PROBLEM dishing it out to others.

The Palestinians are not interested in peace. They have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. Arafat got 99% of what he wanted from Ehud Barak and Clinton, and STILL he wouldn't say yes to the Camp David Accords. Why? Because as he said "if I say yes I will be drinking tea with Rabin". He's referring to Yitzhak Rabin who was assassinated by a religious nutcase in Israel. You really think this could not have been solved decades ago? considering all the wars that have happened and ended since 48 that if there were two willing parties SOMETHING could have been achieved?? Of course it could have! The Arabs saw the advantage of keeping the new "Palestinians" in DP camps. They're NOT interested in helping their fellow Arabs, which is why they're not absorbed in Lebanon, Jordan or Syria. WRONG TRIBE!!

@@angelikalindenau943 first, in the future refers to the current actions one can make that will affect the current decision making process of future events. Speaking of Jewish power is something that only American Jews are allowed to do in celebration (see Alan Dershowitz- “We are entitled to use our power. We have contributed disproportionately to the success of this country.” Or Bari Weiss praising “Jewish power… Jewish success”). But as soon as this influence gets called out - that’s a conspiracy theory or reprise of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Let us remind you of a few events that bear out that power. Jimmy Carter was a one-term president in part because he took on the Israel lobby over settlements. Stuart Eizenstat, Carter’s liaison to the Jewish community and later Hillary Clinton’s, wrote recently that Carter ascribed his loss to the opposition of “New York Jews” who had formerly supported him but were alarmed by his criticisms of Israel’s settlements. Eizenstat frankly described the political clout of the Jewish community: It is even clearer in the decades since, that progress on these same intractable issues with which Carter was struggling forty years ago can come only with a president willing to take enormous domestic political heat and plow ahead. None have done so since with the same combination of his grit and determination-indeed, perhaps because of the political wounds he suffered. Even Tom Friedman has ascribed George H.W. Bush’s loss in 1992 in part to his hard line on the settlements. “Republicans post Bush I, and manifested most in his son Bush 2, took a strategic decision, they will never be out pro-Israel’d again. That they believe cost them electorally a lot.” Indeed, in 1992, Bill Clinton won the presidency and ran to Bush’s right on Israel issues, and gained the blessings of the lead Israel lobby organization AIPAC. AIPAC had unfettered access to the White House under Barack Obama, too. Obama’s top foreign policy aide, Ben Rhodes, has said that he spent more time dealing with 10 to 20 Jewish groups than anyone else, and those groups were piping the Israeli government line. “It’s not a conspiracy, it is what it is.” The number of people youmeet from the organized pro-Israel community equals all the other meetings that you might do with kind of diaspora or constituency groups on all the other issues. It’s that degree of dwarfing. Over the eight years I met so many times with like the usual suspects from the organized American Jewish community… it’s kind of like 10 to 20 people that you find yourself meeting with all the time… It’s not a conspiracy, it is what it is. People are advocating a position. But it’s a common position. Whatever the tension point between us and the Israeli government was at a given time, they were usually coming in to represent what I knew to be the Israeli government’s view in that circumstance….Whenever there was an international incident like the Goldstone Report or the Turkish Flotilla, you have to make sure that you’re doing everything that you can at the U.N. to kind of block this from going forward. We know how this power arose. The Jewish community has exhibited a remarkable unity in support for Israel since the 1967 and 1973 wars, at times a lockstep, and it has sought to punish dissenters. Even liberal Zionists like the group Breira, or the writer Leonard Fein, were crushed when they dared to cross Israel. Philip Weiss, editor of Mondoweiss

During his administration Bill Clinton, he got Yasir Arafat the head of the PLO, the head of the Jewish state (Israel) I forgot who that was at the time together to discuss peace. Israel acquiesced to all of the PLO demands. Peace was at hand and a Palestinian state was within reach. All Arafat had to do is to agree that Israel had the right to exist. That’s all he had to do and peace would’ve been at hand. The Palestinian people could have prospered. The people on both sides specifically Palestine and Israel with no longer die in the war, or bombings, or rocket attacks. Peace would’ve been at hand and Palestine would’ve been a state. Dignitaries from around the world we’re waiting for this historic agreement. I was in Washington with several of my House and Senate candidates at the time and we were all ready to go to the White House for photo opportunities and be involved in this historic agreement. Yasir Arafat, head of the PLO walked away. He would not agree to that simple request. The Palestinians have been given all of their other demands by the United States and Israel but Arafat could not agree that Israel had the right to exist. It was a great opportunity and the PLO walked away.
