Mi Shebeirach is a Jewish prayer for healing. It asks God who blessed our ancestors to bless and heal our loved ones. This post is a memorial to Debbie Friedman whose version of Mi Shebeirach is sung in thousands of synagogues worldwide. Please support her estate by buying her music.

After battling Covid while far from home, now having sinusitis, losing my first ever dog on Dec 20, being in overdraft back home, not earning what I was supposed to at my current job, and now losing my fiancé due to lack of financial means and because of lack of physical strength to do the industry I love so very much, I could really use this prayer to be said for me. Yes it being one you can sincerely sing versus the traditional one and well an inclusive one makes it my favourite. Many of the people I pray for will not be restored to health so the "spirit of refreshment" is something I do hope for as they ease their way out of life. I always feel the beginning though speaks to us all as Jews who have a duty to visit the sick spelled out. I love singing it as I feel weirdly at peace even if part of my brain is brimming with grief.

Mi Shebeirach is a Jewish prayer that ALL people of every ethnicity and faith may derive healing from. But it is destructive and against healing that you would translate it - on an English language page - randomly into Arabic, of all languages, as if Hebrew cannot exist by itself. Your name is Spanish, so this further makes no sense. Translate it into English & Spanish, here. Pos it in both Hebrew & Arabic on an Arabic page (would you dare)? But to post it into Arabic on an English page implies that you don't feel comfortable posting something in Hebrew by itself, without having the Middle East's Arabic overlords included on every instance where Hebrew occurs. This is bigotry. Jews exist as a people in their own right. Considering how much healing the Jewish people have needed from millennia of slaughter by the Arab/Muslim sword and Arab-Muslim oppressive Dhimmi laws & millennia-long practices subjugating Israelites as second-class in the Middle East & North Africa (where Jews pre-dated Muslim conquerors), this is offensive. Glad you posted in the Hebrew, language because this prayer is a Jewish prayer. If you want to put Hebrew and Arabic on an Arabic website - GOOD LUCK, you're probably not brave enough. But don't advertise it falsely or disrespect the Jewish people by denying their right to stand independently in your eyes. Denying & coopting an ethnic minority's spiritual heritage does not lead to the HEALING of the individual person nor the healing of the World for Peace.

@@JourneyBold Hebrew and Arabic have similar cadences and share the same root language is it is not inconceivable this would even fit the tune in Arabic. I am not sure why that would be a problem as G-d is G-d. The same G-d however one sees that whatever ones frame of reference is. Prayer and music can unite so translating the powerful ones is not just inevitable but a good thing. We have quite a few services for Jews and Muslims now that broader interfaith programming has vanished as sponsored by the govt so having the Arabic words can even be a resource although we usually use transliterations of a bit of both.

It has always been important to me that my prayers be sincere and the traditional words for healing held a kernel of untruth for too many people on my list at any given moment. This is such a beautiful prayer and in the wording I always feel strengthened not just in my own health but in my ability to support others in poor health or their families facing imminent grief. The spirit of refreshment is something I can sincerely pray for. I fee stronger myself singing it It must be wonderful to be among those who when it is said "may their memory be a blessing " their families and friends know well in this case before she was memory she was a massive blessing and in death that blessing has not been diminished but builds as others become familiar with the prayer. I sometimes send one of the ones with pictures to people who are not Jews who I have asked to pray for so they have some sense of what we will be singing/saying ( In our Kis and G-d hang out it varies but this remains my preferred wording ) and they find it fills a need for something sincere as well . Thank you very much.

I'm learning Hebrew at 41 yo and actually not doing to bad. In school I struggled learning just to read and write English. Since last year after studying French I figured out I can read English and French books turned upside down and write both backwards cursive. I think learning Hebrew for me maybe a "natural gift" since it's written backwards compared to English and French. I use to get called "mentally retarded" in school because I struggled. Now I wonder if maybe I'm dyslexic or even dyspraxic
