UPDATE: Miami Beach terminated its contract with Poseidon Ferry after multiple instances of service being unavailable due to mechanical issues + overall low ridership. This ferry service is no longer running.

Thanks for sharing and getting the word out! You touched on great points - location, signage and even updating the ferry itself.

I understand they offer a commuter discount where 10 trips are sold for 30 dollars, and 40 trips are sold for 120 dollars making the trip only $3 each way. I think that's an important note you should have mentioned in your video review because it becomes more economical and is something to seriously consider versus driving in rush hour. Busses are still subject to rush hour traffic and the ferry is not plus who doesn't like a ride with a water view while sipping your coffee first thing in the morning? Just another point to consider. 😊

No AC? Really? There should be a warning, can’t imagine elderly residents taking a ride in this heat. 🥵 Just the no shade zone before you actually get inside the taxi.

$12.00 I think the people who would take that would want to go for a boat ride, because to go from Purdy Ave to Maurice Gibb Memorial Marina you can either do the bus for 2.50 or dare I say an Uber lol. I mean it's a short ride. I jog that path daily and on a hot day I wouldn't say that's a casual walk, but it shows how close it really is. I remember seeing proposals for water trollies that were low and sleek and could go under the bridges easily. The trollies make sense if they go to multiple stops, including Brickell and Bayshore. There isn't really anything at Maurice Gibb and Purdy Ave is a nice spot even the walk from there to Lincoln Road is a bit of a hike depending on what someone is expecting.

Excellent points made. Here in NYC, the city subsidized a ferry service, and it became pretty popular. the pandemic and subsequent work-at-home movement put quite a dent in ridership, I believe. But many people do still ride it, and there are quite a few routes. I took the ferry a few weeks ago, and the ride was $4 - much cheaper than the Miami ride. So, after reading your points, it seems that this "rollout" could have been much better planned. And $12 one way, especially when there are faster, cheaper ways to go, seems to be a recipe for failure. Again. I hope the city re-assess the situation.

The Ft. Lauderdale Water Taxi is awesome! Worth it just for the tour of the mansions. Such a good time we had. The bus is so much cheaper than this ferry. Maybe this ferry will take off at some point but it seems old and no AC sucks for summer.

It looks like it would be best for tourists. If you are commuting to work, time is important so the bus is best. If you work downtown or Brickell , it's too far away. A fast shuttle ferry boat would be best from South Beach to Bayside or near the Omni Metro Mover Station on the river for commuters.

THe bus has to deal with 5 pm traffic so I imagine it'll be useful for those going or leaving to miami beach

Is there an app we could download to track these boats whenever we need to get on one?

I used the vesselfinder website to track. Nothing official on their site so this is your best option. Boat’s name is “Lil Diamond III”
