First played last night with 3p. It did go on a little longer than I would have liked, but we all had a blast!

I never played Runebound 1 or 2, and I've have never played Descent. I have played many games and I truly enjoyed this one... feeling that too many people get caught up on rolling dice. Overall I felt I had more control over combat and the story aspect was fun. Looking forward to expansions.

Well that's been the problem with most adventure games, like Witcher or Fortune and Glory, that downtime drags the game. I guess it depends on how much your players like following the adventures of other players - my group loves it. It's either you're following your own story or also that of your friends and I am interested in what happens to my friends. Also, with four players you should have the opposite player control the monsters or - in all honesty - anyone who wants to.
@Baris_Kocabasoglu9 жыл бұрын
The idea behind the player on the right playing the monster attacks is that so the game can go on for the next player while you do your battle. However it all comes down to what you said about "being interested" in your friends' adventures as well. I understand that downtime can be somewhat daunting but considering the fact that my group is used to hours of down time in Axis&Allies, Shogun or MageKnight this game is a breeze for us :)
@joelfromcalifornia9 жыл бұрын
+Kristo Vaher Or maybe for the battles have each of the players control the monsters.
@mikejonesnoreally8 жыл бұрын
I still think that MageKnight is like a beautiful puzzle and I love watching other players solving it. Runebound's downtime for me would be spent studying my opponents. What they have what they are investing in, how they fight, I guess I just love watching games and talking about them as much as I like playing them. If you hate downtime but want a good adventure game I'd pick up Galaxy Defenders while it's still in print. GREAT adventure co-op. I've heard similar things about the D&D games but can't speak from experience there myself. : )

My group is stuck on Imperial Assault right now but we are currently making plans for a Twilight Imperium 3 session sometime down the road and I'm really excited for that. Runebound is a game I'd really like to add to my collection. Its a Fantasy Flight game so I'm sure I'll really enjoy it.

Has anyone figured out a way to keep stickers on dice? I was thinking of spraying a clear coat over mine???? Also if anyone is looking for nice sleeves for hero cards , I found really nice 4x6 hard sleeves (5 pack) on Amazon by BCW!!!
@ChRiStRiDa76 жыл бұрын
Found 6x 9 sleeves for combat boards for unbreakable bonds on there too but they are flimsy and don't fit good! Think I may just laminate!
@wroot_lt9 жыл бұрын
I would have to feel these dice in my hand, but they actually look nice. Because they show the exact same art of terrain which is on the board. You can't have same effect with engraved dice. so they would have to use some symbols for plains, mountains, etc. and it would look different from the board art and would be a bit confusing. At least at the beginning. But if those stickers feel flimsy, then yeah, not nice.
@kembanganplaza57826 жыл бұрын
You just have to stick the stickers with the same care that you would use in assembling a resin mini. I carefully applied the stickers so that they are 100% within their sockets. The sticker faces are now completely secure and there's no chance of them ever getting worn out or coming off.
@ljupchogligorov50775 жыл бұрын
Yes, you should put the stickers carefully in their sockets. I have played this game more than 20 times and the dice are like new. In the terms of how they look compared to the 2nd ed. there is no comparison, these are far more beautiful than those white with black engravings.

@spiralmind649 жыл бұрын
When I bought the game I thought I would dislike the combat token mechanic, but I found that I liked it. Totally agree with Sam, the dice are crap quality-wise. Fantasy Flight really dropped the ball with them. I play mostly solo, and had a blast with it so far.

He said that he never played the 1ST EDITION because the 2nd Edition came out early in the game's lifecycle and when he saw the game and became interested in it.

I happened to teach my 7 year old daughter Runebound 2nd Ed on the day this was published, and seeing it through her eyes, 2nd Ed would kick 3rd Ed's butt AND call it's mother something really bad. Adventure games / dungeon crawlers are ALL about dice based combat to give it that "statistical" feel, and this disc flipping/casting thing sure as hell takes that away. I get that as a solo variant it might be better than 2nd Ed. But for 2 or more I am really not sold on this being an improvement. And btw, the downtime is not a bad thing if you play the game as a couple families together. Little ones might provide interruptions which will totally mess up other games, where-as the downtime here means mommy or daddy can go give attention in between while the game keeps going on.
@mikejonesnoreally8 жыл бұрын
Like you I love 2nd Ed. RuneBound and I never really felt that there was any downtime. Then again it's really fun to read the cards for each other and it makes it feel like you're playing a story together even though you're both trying to win. It's like shopping combined with a race where you have to beat holy hell outta' the sharp turns. : )
@kembanganplaza57826 жыл бұрын
I would disagree with you. Combat is about tactics, not statistics. The discs system feels like a VS card game, akin to a MTG duel. The monster has options just like you, and can react to and mess with your options just like you. Dice cannot replicate that. Because this game is not a dungeon crawler or tactical skirmish game, this MTG duel feeling is much better suited.
@jukka-pekkatuominen45407 жыл бұрын
When you compare this to Talisman I don't think the down time should be a huge issue. For instant I cannot remember that you would ever lose your whole turn as you can easily do in Talisman. Or just use your turn to "do nothing" and then wait for your turn to come up again. But I agree that if you are not interested on other people's turns then this game can have significant down time in it.

Runebound 1st edition is 99.9% the same as the 2nd edition. In the 1st edition was a D20. In the 2nd edition, they changed it to 2 D10 dice. Rest ist exactly the same.

Flipping Tokens?! PASS Lukas Litzsinger as game designer?! DOUBLE PASS I have everything, and when I say it's everything is really everything for Runebound II. I can't see anything, any detail, any something that would make me shift from II to III, only the oposite, I only see details that makes me look into version II and play it to exhaustion. Thank you, FFG! Keep doing straight reprints as you've been doing through these last 3 years and save me my money! ;)

Huge Runebound 2e fan who has sat on the fence for months on this one waiting to see what you guys would say. I was skeptical before this video...but this confirms it for me. Looks like 2e will continue to be my Runebound game of choice. Disappointed with where FFG went on this one....missed opportunity. I understand the new game's merits, and Tom and Sam did point them out...but the detractions are far too many for me.

Bummer :( I was hoping for a solid, decent pace Adventure game for 4. I usually have 3-7 people playing at any given time when I do meet. Wish I waited on this review before pulling the trigger on this one, Will sell it off/trade/return it if the return shipping doesnt kill me. Such a bummer cause it looked good but downtime is a killer for me, especially in this type of game(multiplayer solitaire/little to no interaction between turns)

The components on this edition look cheaper and feel less classically styled than the 2nd edition. I have only played 2nd edition with a new gaming group a few times, but I really liked it. 2nd edition's mechanic looks a lot more fun to me, miles above what I saw on these reviews. I don't like what I saw here, I would not play 3rd edition, 2nd feels better to me and more complex, it was described as "D&D" in a box by other players to me and I think that comes close. Why do they always try to dumb down good games?

I’m thinking about buying this or not...The thing that you can ho exploring and doing quest instead of just “go there kill that” it’s intringuing me. I’m struggling between this and Mage Knight that everyone talks good about it but i found it very complicated. Also MK is going to have a re-stamp with all expansions in september.

I love how wherever I go I see people struggle with clearly defining their approach to the disc combat system. Personally I think it is a great idea, however FFG wasted it's potential in this edition. Monster tokens are very boring, monster abilities are a joke. It is VERY unlikely that you will get a throw of tokens that will let you use the strongest minion abilities. Most of them are useless anyways (I'm not kidding). The other thing is that in Runebound 2nd Edition there were no two the same monster cards. You had 100 monsters EASY. Here you have copies so you get maybe 30 monsters? I have played 3rd edition over 10 times so it is not a lot, but I already feel like I've seen everything.
@easymedia917 жыл бұрын
One more thing about Margath. He is a main boss and his strongest triple thunder ability allows you to deal up to CRAZY 6 damage given that rest of the tokens land in a specific configuration. 50% of the time main boss attacks for 2 and heals for 3. 40% are shit throws when you just massacre his face. There is no challenge in this game.
