Hey Darren, aspiring pilot from Hong Kong here. Just wanted to show my appreciation for your videos, offering me insights of rostering and perhaps the more "realistic" side of what being an airline pilot is like. I find your videos valuable for my own personal growth and knowledge that I can sprinkle into my airline cadet pilot programme interview in the coming future. Keep up with the content and thank you for letting us tag along with your journeys!

I saw this post on Instagram a bit ago and was so excited for something other than London! This being said, you could only fly to London for the rest of your life and I’d still watch your videos. Great work Mr. Byrd! (Also, yes at 21:25 the Chilean flag is incredibly similar to the Texan one. Fun fact: The Chilean flag is known as “La Estrella Solitaria”, or “The Lone Star”. )

Was the 777 deadhead from DFW-MIA a Miami or Dallas crew? I also noticed the aircraft later flew to various military facilities such as Pope Army Air Field, Robert Gray Army Airfield, and Biggs Army Airfield. Does Kirkland do military contracts and if so have you ever bid for them?
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
I think it was a DFW crew. I believe they do military contracts. They go senior. I haven't done them yet.

Interesting ! Flown to MIA and MCO many times. I thought customs and immigration in Miami ( and Orlando) were dreadful (AUS and DFW were a dream) but I thought it was because I am a non US passport holder. Now I know you suffer the same problems it makes me fell better ( I think) .

Hey Darren, you mentioned at 3:24 its a FO trip and that you were flying but then mentioned the captain did the approach and landing. What does FO trip mean then or did the captain decide to do the landing later on during the flight? Could you elaborate on this?
@qf2994Ай бұрын
I’m sure Darren could explain better, but I believe that just because it’s an FO trip doesn’t mean he’s the pilot in control. Just means that he would be sitting in the FO seat rather than the relief pilot seat/duties. He would still be in control of communications, etc..
@yohanauguusteАй бұрын
He means it’s an FO trip for him (not the aircraft) as in he is the first officer instead of relief pilot (FB or FC) which he has been a lot in the recent past. I’m sure he flew the return leg to Miami as the crew typically alternate pilot flying and pilot monitoring.
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
As others stated for every aircraft at my airline the Captain flies one leg and the First Officer flies the next one. I flew the return trip including the takeoff and landing.
@masonjones3780Ай бұрын
Funny saying flying the plane is the easy part! I worked a large transit agency that was union! The work was the easy part. Knowing the work rules and pay and BIDDING scehuldes every three months was the pain in the neck! It was a good job with great pay. GO UNION!

Woohoo another Darren Byrd video! New destination too! Do you feel glad you made a mistake bidding because you wouldn’t have otherwise gotten to go to Chile as an F/O? Have you ever flown with Captain Steve? He’s also on the 777 for Kirkland and has a channel named character health. He has a similar outgoing personality like you.

It is what it is as far as the trip. The all nighters deep South are not my thing. Haven't flown with Steve yet.

So … am I understanding correctly, even though you are based in Dallas, you can bid for a trip starting at any of your pilot bases?
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
Yes but this trip was designed by scheduling so they had to deadhead me from and return me to DFW. I can bid for trips out of anywhere but it is my responsibility to get myself there and back
@sirjasonakanaАй бұрын
@ that’s really cool
@karolkubik2719Ай бұрын
Hey Darren, does the deadhead flight count towards your Flight Duty Period?
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
Depends. If it's anything by the very last leg of a sequence yes. The last leg I could deadhead for 24 hours straight. That would be FAA compliant but not union contract compliant.
@MrBDubАй бұрын
Darren, what is the longest 777 flight operated by your airline that is manned with only two crew?
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
There's transcons and I think just one JFK LHR day time flight that is two pilots.
@HalvorJАй бұрын
Hey Darren, you mentioned that your FB was about 5000 numbers senior to you, however new on the 777. If both of you were to bid on the same flight who would get it? The one if more seniority or the one with more experience on type?
