Colin Farrell had massive shoes to fill in Don Johnson's but he did so admirably and he never got enough credit for this role. He is amazing as Sonny....and Gong Li as Isabella is incredible. I love the part...."Do you dance?"....I dance...... That is the definition of masculine. They were perfect too.

Colin played a good Sony Crocket for me, he fulfills the characteristics of the character, a half-rebellious cop who follows his instincts, rather than the politically correct rules. Same with Jamie Foxx, he plays Tubbs well, a good duo they made, but a pity that the movie didn't work very well, it has good things but ups and downs too, it's not perfect. If Michael Mann was given a second chance, with a sequel and he did well this time, it would be great, it would have to be closer to the original TV series for it to work.

The interchange between Sonny & Isabella in the boat, characters revealing themselves in showing & not telling, her demeanor of straight forward coolness and Sonny cool-slight vulnerability. She remarks-summarily, “I am, My own person-A husband doesn’t change that” he fastens her belt, something she recognizes foreign to her, concern. All in backdrop of the blue skies mirroring the ocean and that boat cutting across w/ Moby’s music foreshadowing their relationship. So incredibly good.

I think I love the original Miami Vice more, but it’s just a personal thing. The show was genuinely fantastic and had way more appeal than just being an ad for the latest MTV hits, but part of the reason a lot of us watch it (especially those who didn’t grow up with it like myself) is to soak in that 80’s atmosphere that Micheal Mann and the Miami Vice team so perfectly captured on screen. The film is a different kind of beast and doesn’t quite have that same flair, but its not really trying to and damn is _great_ regardless! I think people were just so hesitant because the original was so iconic and perfect in its own way. Saying that, I think this scene got the closest to recapturing the specific energy of the original!

Some movies don´t hit the nerve the first time around in spite of them having all the right ingredients. I agree, they need to mature, or the audience need to mature. @@robinhooduk8255Gong Li has some sex appeal but I can’t get over the fact that she is playing a cuban girl… Eva Mendes, Michelle Rodriguez or Penelope Cruz for a classier look (just because the other two are younger ofc), could have been a better choice. I’m aware it’s not the best movie out there but something makes me want to rewatch when I see it playing on tv. There’s some magic to it that I can’t explain.

I know the series (have it on DVD still), a TV show so ahead of it's time that it influenced big screen movies to this day! Asking a 2 hour movie to somehow duplicate that magic is impossible, but the movie grows on you.
@jasonjcr_cars8192 жыл бұрын
@@ontarionagasaki1441 yeah, replication isn’t possible as you can’t fabricate the influence of the 80s but having the same director sure helped

Nothing says sexier than a cigarette boat doing 170 mph on the water, no ship can catch you, and at that moment, you are God and everyone else is in your world.

The evening off shore scenery brings back memories of coming back in. Trying to beat the setting sun after a day that was spent 45+ miles off the Florida coast with family and friends. Regardless of the weather it was always a good time.

This movie is legendary. I remember watching it when it first came out on DVD (😂😂😂). I never got why it got panned by the critics. As a speedboat fan, i loved respect that they showed to these fascinating machines.!Once Sonny got the green light for the 🐱, he had no choice but to let her rip

I love this scene. She was running the "strong empowered woman" routine on him, but he blew right past it with some masculine power moves. First, he TOLD her to take the wheel so he could remove his jacket. Then when she told him she wasn't married, he belted her in, without asking. You saw the look of shock on her face. Then, when he spun her around the dance floor when she didn't expect him to even know how to dance, that sealed it. Before that, she was using the trip down to Cuba to size him up and get in his head. But once the dance was over, she straight fell in love with him. She stared at him in complete wonder the whole time on the dance floor. Take notes fellas!

@@404errorpagenotfound.6 It isn't about where he did what he did, but how. He showed assertiveness and took the lead. That's the point.

@@Timoteo4 You said it. American men at least are being brainwashed and have been for a long time now to be soft, weak, fragile, feminine etc. I been guilty of it 100 percent too. I see all my male friends I grew up with from nerds to jocks to tough guys all get married and become a shell of who they were/are. Weak. You don't need to be an asshole or a prick at all. Don't let the American media and hollywood ruin you with all this toxic male masculinity crap. More big hoax. They are controlling young boys so early and dads went from being men raising sons in the farms to going to the office to being on videogames. Timothy Doctor said what all men need to hear. You can be a good man while being strong and assertive. I'm still trying to learn and figure it out myself due to years of being brainwashed and being a nice guy who finished last. Men also need to look for high quality real marriage material women like this and evolve.

bloody hell not sure what it is about this scene but it gives me chills. When I was in Havana, I was looking at the Malecon from my window hotel, and thinking that's is only a boat trip from Miami, a completely different world ! Yet, Americans can't just get in easily and vice versa.

Fun fact the scene wasn't actually filmed in Havana it was filmed in Montevideo Uruguay which has a similar Malecon to Havana

Like most movies by Michael Mann they are not for everyone. They are like a piece of art with layers of messages ♥ that requires the time, attention and the soul to find them. Brutal in their own way, Miami Vice tells the story of impossible love and the accurate cruelty of criminal organizations.

It could never really live up to the original's expectations, but it was a decent movie. From what I have heard there was a lot of tension between Colin and Jamie Fox, as they had flipped the script to make Tubbs the main character. The best thing about the movie is the soundtrack. Nina Simone, India.Arie, Emilio Estefan, Moby, Mogwai, Goldfrapp, Klaus Badelt, Mark Batson and the late great Manzanita performing "Arranca".
