Foxx just won the best actor for Ray so was a A list at the time. And he was pissed colin farrell got paid more. Im not an actor so I don't get it lol. The visuals are SOOO low-key amazing. Some shots are obvious works of art but overall much of its artistic power is subtle. It's in the texture and dreamy color of the grain on people's faces when its too dark, its in the shaky hand-held shots that look like someone just grabbed a camera and started shooting, but somehow found the perfect angle. You can tell that Mann and his crew really went for it with these old HD cameras and probably did a lot of testing to get this look which now, to me, is signature. At the time it felt like they were just jumping on the digital train but now its clearly a distinct look that still feels fresh.

classic Michael Mann.

Anthony Rizzo actually these cameras were cutting edge at that time, Thompson even won an Oscar for them. The thing here is that Mann could have tried to make it look more filmic and cinematic but he didn’t and purposefully had 360 angle on them to make motion more smooth, which gives it hyper realistic feel.

One of the most underrated movies in history IMO. Especially when you consider the amount of issues they had whilst filming with what happened on set and that Colin Farrell was at peak of his alcoholism and drug taking during this! He himself admits he can hardly recall even doing it!

I agree. It has that sense of seeing the inevitable in front of you, it's decided, but you have a weight in the pit of your stomach as now you just have to go through with it, which I hear in the low notes. I have always loved this movie ever since the first time i saw it in 2006. The mixed reception it received at the time was inevitable i think people at the time were expecting the movie to be a lot like the iconic TV series,or people who weren't that familiar with the TV series were expecting a movie among the lines of Bad Boys Or Lethal Weapon but i love the fact that Miami Vice was so different from those other movies and stands on it's own. It's really a mood piece a lot like Michael Mann's other movies i thought it was really interesting how Crockett and Tubbs's relationship in this movie was almost telepathic and few lines of dialogue were exchanged between the two of them it really does separate itself from other movies of this kind its a shame Michael Mann never got to shot the ending he originally intended but still a great movie with a very intense brooding reflective thinking and underrated performance by Colin Farrell.......
@TechNoir-wz5ic4 жыл бұрын
@ Well After gunshots were fired on the set in the Dominican Republic Jamie Foxx left the country and refused to work outside of the United States, so Michael Mann was left in a position were he had to change the ending and shot it in Miami, the original ending was supposed to be filmed in Uruguay and apparently that ending would have been a lot more dramatic but there are no specific details about what was to happen in the original ending.......

In 2002 a women I had been talking to online and on the phone flew to Texas to meet me. I picked her up at the airport on my motorcycle, She was everything I had been told to expect and a lot more. Those three days together are even now the best three days of my life. I replay our last few miles on my bike as we headed to the airport, our last cup of coffee in an airport lounge. Our walk together to the gate. The last time she pressed her lips to mine. The last look before she disappeared from my view. I replay that in my head with this music and it seems even more tragic.

One of the great underrated films. The actors didn’t talk to the audience but to each other and in a genuine way cops working these types of missions would, in hushed tones with scanning alert glances. The cinematography phenomenal but the script was real. Loved the failure at the end and the heartbreak, making it more real. Basically you don’t get flawed heroes like this anymore, just strong determined women without any weakness and doubting emotionally fragile men.

It's shot like that because the ending is actually a dream. Both Crockett and his GF died in the shootout, Tubb's GF dies in the hospital. The ending had to be rewritten cause Foxx refused to stay in Central America and continue filming; which pissed of the studio and the director, costing the production millions, and taking shooting an extra two months. The director ( Michael Mann ) knew he was not going to be able to a sequel so it was his way off killing everybody off, except Tubbs. The reason he left Tubbs alive in his cut of the move, was a big Fuck you to Jaime Foxx to remind him of what he did in screwing up what was suppose to be a three franchise movie.

One of my all time favorite films. While Heat & Blackhat were sensational and there was The Insider & Public Enemies with all the style, nothing could or will ever come close to the greatness of Miami Vice - on TV or film. There is just so much emotion, depth and thought in each frame - that it blows me away every time I revisit it. While I would have loved to know the original ending Mann had planned for this movie, I still love it the way it is. Also, having watched it just after the TV series, the impact was as memorable as any other major event in my life. Mesmerizing.

Original ending is they capture Yero, but the drug kingpin kills Isabella, Crockett lets Yero go free cause he tells the location of where to find the drug Kingpin. Tubbs is furious with Crocket for making that deal and does not go with him to find and kill him, but eventually joins him. They kill the kingpin. The end of the movie was suppose to have Crockett questioning whats it all worth if Isaballa is dead and Yero ended up taking control of the Drug Kingpins cartel. Setting up movie number two that never happened. This came from a Reddit piece with John Ortiz who played Yero.

Yea, would like to know what motivated Mann for the ending montage. It's obviously a hodgepodge put together after the original script. I have read that Isabella riding off in the ocean signified her death, Crockett walking into the light at the hospital signified his death, and if you watch closely, the last scene where Tubbs and Judy are holding hands freezes right before it changes scenes; signifies her death also, as time comes to a stop. The theory is Mann left only Tubbs alive as a giant F you to Jaime Foxx for ruining his scripted ending and being a major factor in the turmoil that lead to a 2nd movie never being made. Who knows, but those are pretty cool theories. One thing I did catch was the ending scene where Crockett walking into the hospital is actually from the scene where he had his final phone call with Yero. He's holding the cell phone in his hand, his hair is down ( not in a ponytail ) wearing the same clothes, and he's obviously in the hospital parking lot.

I always think of "love" when it comes to this ending. Tubbs and Trudy are very much in love. Crockett has feelings for Isabella, but he does not love her. It hurts to send her away but it is what is best for both of them. Isabella however loves Crockett, hence her starting out at the house until the last possible moment where visibility is 100%. Then her looking to the horizon signifies her knowing she has to look ahead and not behind, and to leave all of that, behind. And when we cut to Crockett arriving at the hospital to see Tubbs and Trudy... people who he deeply loves.... it just hits home.

The final scene where Crockett is walking into the hospital is actually from the scene with his final phone call with Yero to negotiate the final drug buy. You can see he still has his phone in his hand. Michael Mann came up with the final montage with the music from Mogwai when he had to scrap the original ending which was to be filled in Paraguay. The original ending had the the drug lord killing Isebella and Jose Yero giving up the drug lord in order to save himself.
@buddry5386 жыл бұрын
Yeah didn't Jamie Foxx leave the movie and Mann had to re write the ending?
@abaresti82165 жыл бұрын
Foxx refused to return to Paraguay to finish the ending Mann had written. Mann was then left with the choice to move that same production to South Florida or come up with a different ending. By this time the movie was well on it's way to be over budget and over it's production schedule, so Mann was forced to write this hodgepodge ending. I don't think anybody was happy with it as the ending shootout was typical of anything you see in most action movies. Which makes the theory that the ending montage is loaded with subliminal messages practical. Trudy dies cause if you pay close attention, the film freezes right before it cuts off to the next scene, signaling time has come to a stop. Isabella being taken away by Frank back to Cuba signals the end of her life, and Crocket walking into the light signals his life. Crocket & Isabela if you go by the theory, died in the shootout. Which leaves only Foxx alive at the end, but why? It's Mann's message to Foxx and a giant F you for pretty much ruining what was supposes to a franchise of films. He's the only one left standing with nothing.

A freeze frame captures a moment, and as Trudy looks at Rico and we freeze frame on their hands locked together, the moment is that Trudy is going to live and Rico is by her side. And Isabella was never going to die in any version of the film. You can read Mann's first draft of Miami Vice from 2004, and in it, Crockett and Isabella have to separate from each other at the end of the film, just as we see in the final film here. In the first draft, they even have the same "Time is luck" and "Well luck ran out. This was too good to last" conversation before separating. Nothing in the final film indicates that Crockett and Isabella "died in the shootout," and Isabella going back to Cuba doesn't signal the "end of her life." The real and intended message from Mann is that they both have to continue their lives, hers in Cuba, Crockett's in Miami, never to see each other again but maintaining only the memories of time spent with one another. Isabella turning her gaze from the shore to the distant ocean emphasizes this for her, and the final shot of the film with Crockett going to the hospital to his team emphasizes it for him. The message is right there, and this message was ALWAYS intended by Mann. So in essence, everything YOU wrote and your little "theory" is complete bullshit lmao. And the fact you tried to “justify” all that bullshit with even more bullshit by lying that Mann deliberately wanted to fuck over Foxx is just the cherry on top. Like, dude, your comment is riddled with nothing but blatant lies and nonsensical theories that are contradicted by the actual intention of the film and its true production history.

@@abaresti8216 Crockett and Tubbs in the series remained alive although they had moments between life and death especially Tubbs... Why make a movie that you can barely recognize with the name of the franchise which has in the process killing one of the protagonists, I know this is not the TV show but with that way of change it would have been better that the characters had been other policemen agents not Sonny and Rico. If Crockett and Isabella died there would be nothing left, just a policeman without a partner and also without a wife, with that ending that was thought better the movie should have been called “death in the line of duty” with neon color if he wanted :v but not Miami Vice The result of the movie would have been worse with that ending. At least with the bitter taste that they are alive but they cannot be together, a kind of frustrated romance that works.

Oh my god, I always knew MV2006 was a film about vacation, but always wondered "Why?" I think now I know... The ending is where all the makeshift identities and lavish undercover life comes undone and we all have to come back to life, for better or worse. We loathe to let it go, just like Gong Li can't seem to take her mind off the coast, but in the end we all come back to where works are... Never thought I would relate to this film this hard
