In this episode , director Paul Michael Glaser made NYC look like another Miami, filled with hip, perfectly dressed people, sunny places and without any dirt. And during the first NYC-scenes (when Jan Hammer's New York Theme is played) you can see the Trump Tower. Anyway, it's my alltime favourite episode.

I love how in this trailer. Sonny confronts the Rothchild Banker agent in New York. Tells how murder and mayhem is footnote on a balance sheet to these people. This is why Miami vice is one the greatest show ever. It shows how the world really works. Few tv shows do that.

MIAMI VICE at it's peak wasn't what critics said then, that it was style over substance. it was both.

Not many people know that Paul Michael Glaser directed this episode of "The Prodigal Son". Yep the original Starsky himself. He also directed "Smugglers Blues" along with "Calderone's Return" and "Calderone's Demise". He directed just these four episodes of Miami Vice.

The best MV episodes these two I've ever seen. I was very impressed back then, still think this is great...

This is the best MV episode EVER! Brother's Keeper and Calderone's return(part 1) are tied up in the second place

One of my favorite episodes. That and it was loaded with notable guest stars: Gene Simmons, Penn Jilette, Luis Guzman, and the always beautiful Pam Grier.

Best season opener of best TV drama, period. Thank you for this compilation. Do you have any extended clips that include JH's haunting incidental theme that you've included in this trailer at 2.00 + 2.30, e.g. the final sequence when Crockett packs his bags and departs from the NYC hotel room en route to the airport - IMHO the coolest sequence ever!

Wow! I didn't even think that this was edited into a trailer! It felt like I was watching a 1980s movie trailer; the way it was edited with the clips and audio (for instance starting at 2:58 - 3:17: dialogue and action)! Great job!

Brilliant post-haven't seen this trailer before, of probably my fave Miami Vice episode/s. Penn Gillette was great as Jimmy Borges too. Story-line was superb with Crockett and Tubbs being targeted by the baddies..... and the goodies!!

Oh yeah! Great Jan Hammer choice for the Universal logo music! I love how you used it to bookend the trailer. Cool-ass trailer for an epic episode! The New York theme was always pure Miami Vice!

Luxury cars and the way they were styled were heavily inspired by MV used to like the white exotics ( Testarossa should've been black )with the monochromatic look which screamed 80s kingpin

The season two opener, *The Prodigal Son*, was one FANTASTIC episode and was a really great kick-off of season two. It was clear after watching this episode that *Vice* was still every bit as red hot season one was. Seasons one and two were like watching a great movie every week. IMHO season three was still pretty good but seasons four and five suffered serious changes in the overall look and the writing (the UFO episode didn't help any). The shitty writing absolutely killed this show :(

Season 1 and 2 were great. Season 3 left a lot to be desired - look at the changes in style, music, tone...it was not a good change. Dick Wolf ruined it when he stepped in. Seasons 4 and 5 were not good either. Crockett even wore jeans, and a dirty trucker jacket. That’s not Vice. The tone became way too dark, too.

A brilliant overall TV show and probably my favourite Episode. People forget how influential Miami Vice was. Miami Vice still has watchable action scenes . . was film noir . . . BUT . . . captured the very essence of the Eighties. It helped Miami Vice become memorable and not just another "cop show." Not EVERY episode finished with a Hollywood ending i.e. the bad guys getting caught. Yes . . . the U.S. economy exploded as did the cocaine boom and Miami Vice captured this. Also the amount of actors and actresses who got either start up roles OR the appearance on Vice saw them gain better opportunities. E.g. Helena Bonham Carter ..to this day one of the U.K.'s best EVER female actors.

That is real, it's an extended barrel for the pistol. Looks like a .45. An extended barrel can be used to fit a suppressor (silencer) or more velocity or just to look cool. Some people use them.

Gotta love that 80s synthetizer sound at the intro! What's the name of that soundtrack?
@matthewcragg36076 жыл бұрын
Jan Hammer used that cue different times in different episodes. It was very prominent in the pilot episode for season 1 when they were approaching the drug deal/meet along the Miami River. Only a little bit of it made it onto a proper released recording in the track named "New York Theme". You can hear it most clearly in that track at the very end. You can find the track on the album "Miami Vice: The Complete Collection".
