Beautiful Scarab. All I could ever afford was the Monogram plastic model kit. I have three.

theres a good chance I helped build that boat. I built many 38 KVs at that time working at wellcraft plant #3 back in the day. Check behind the galley mirror where I used to sign my name on some of the ones I built. They made a very few 43 ' upgrades very similar in style in 87 or 88 but only sold a very few. The ultimate motor option in the 43' was twin 12 cylinder Lambo's. They gave one to Don Johnson who left it uncovered in a marina in Miami during rainy season and it ultimately got sent back to the plant and had to get pretty much gutted and re-done because of water damage.

Ok so I was born in 1985. I love boats and all things 80’s, and this is my dream boat. Or as close to it as I can get. My dad was an undercover cop in palm beach and found himself doing many details in Miami as well as met advisors and cast. So my question is, could a cop even afford this boat?

@KNUCLESTICK Sorry to hear about how Mecum handled the auction. I guess I thought better of them. It was odd to us to see the boat surrounded by the wooden boats, even if there were a couple of other offshore powerboats. Beautiful boat by the way - went to Fontana specifically to see it. Would have like to have seen more of it, but you were busy at the time - I was the guy asking about the camera mounting holes on Saturday.

High bid was $52,000 but reserve must have been higher as it did not sell.

What a beauty. Do you ever get the time to take her out? How is a 1986 offshore in terms of upkeep?
@chrispersson71473 жыл бұрын
The first season in the series was shot in 1984 and 1986 was the third season where the Scarab actually was seen less than in previous seasons. It can not be the first Scarab to be used in the series if this Scarab was from 1986. Either the people that made that sign didn´t know what they were talking about and got the year wrong or this is not the first Scarab that was used in the series. If this was used from 1986, where is the scarab that was used in the seasons in 84 and 85?
@rmx01indiana3 жыл бұрын
Everything you're saying is correct but I will say Season 1 was actually 84-85 and Season 2 was 85-86. This could have been used in Season 2 but you are definitely correct in saying either they don't know what they're talking about or this can't be the first boat

The majority got the Miami Vice paint scheme but there were many other custom paint designs used on the 38 KV. They also occasionally use the Miami Vice paint on smaller boats. It's Imron paint and I'm reasonably sure its not used anymore for anything because of hazardous chemicals. A family of painters were subcontracted and they did all of the painting on the Wellcraft Scarabs . They did the fade on each one by hand which I always was impressed by. If I remember right, the fade has fine metalflake in it too.

Didnt they use a diffrent boat in Season1? Well at least a diffrent wing and color, not with the purple..
@flappo1217 жыл бұрын
Season one they used Chris Craft scorpion. Chris craft was located about 2 miles down US 301 from the Wellcraft plant, and the Donzi plant was right next to them

totalsalessolutions: probably one of the drives is not engaged - you can engage the drives indepently. Hot80s - not my boat, but wish it was! Although I prefer the Chris Craft Stingers.
