The best advice I have for someone new to backing up a trailer is put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and move your hand in the direction you want the back of the trailer to go. Most people can learn from there

they should out signs up to show the people. If you don't back a trailer but once or twice a month, it 's easy to get rusty

It's almost impossible to back up a very short trailer. Like a log splitter or commercial compressor, for example.
@DonziGT2302 жыл бұрын
Little trailers are a big pain, people who've never done it don't get it. I could cruise my 30 footer up the driveway with minimal effort, with my little trailers I look like a drunk 5th grader.
@yakityakteriw67742 жыл бұрын
@@DonziGT230 same lol 😆 😂 🤣 😅 it's pretty sad. It's like one small tiny turn and the whole damn trailer goes sideways lol 😆 then you straighten back out, try again.. nope.. hit a pebble off track again lol 😆

I drive an 18 wheeler for a living and get nothing about compliments about my trailer backing skills at the boat launch, snowmobile hill, and whenever i have a trailer hooked up. I have a lot of patience, but i have to say, watching these videos is like watching a train wreck. I hate it but cant look away 😅

Backing a trailer is real simple folks. Place your hand on the BOTTOM of your steering wheel. Get somewhat lined up, start backing up slowly and watch your trailer. Slowly move you hand on the steering wheel in the direction you want the trailer to go. You are now literally "steering" the trailer to where it needs to be! Above all, DO NOT BACK UP FAST AND DON'T JUST SPIN THE STEERING WHEEL A LOT TO CORRECT. Don't worry about what someone might think about how long your taking. As long as you're still going in a straight line for the ramp they don't have an argument!
@bildotcom2 жыл бұрын
The reason they kept going towards the dock was because they were trying to back the trailer under the boat. You need to get the trailer into the water and then bring the boat to the trailer. If people would think that way they would do better.
@RA-wl1vt2 жыл бұрын
never had to back up a trailer until I rented a backhoe, backed it into the spot on the first try by following one simple rule. Put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and turn the way you want the trailer to go and take your time! If you are anywhere close to being a competent driver you will have no problems

When was the drain plug on the boat (on left) removed?
@jerrymoore19892 жыл бұрын
That opening isn't supposed to be plugged. It's part of the self bailing. If that gets below the water line you're already in trouble.

I know we laugh, but my take is that until you obtain a little muscle memory on backing a trailer, the struggle will always be there to a certain extent. After some MM settles in, it’s just a matter of feel to set up, and when to make a minor versus a major adjustment, which comes with experience. If you have to think about the wheel turn, you still have opportunity for improvement.

I find myself screaming open your liftgate, hatch, this guy in the jeep had guide poles that he could see. I never use my mirrors, hand at the bottom of the steering wheel, watch the trailer or guide poles. It is actually pretty simple. Always size up the ramp as well.know your trailer and how Dee p the trailer needs to be.

California has a "Three strikes and you're out" policy. Might be worth considering that for boat ramps.
@theone4929 Жыл бұрын
To simply solve this problem the government needs to have an endorsement on licenses to haul any trailer. Just as you you need an endorsement to drive a motorcycle, drive a semi truck. But if they did that the boat industry would crash.
@CorbinAce2 жыл бұрын
I will never understand why first time boat people will go to a busy dock and make such a fool of themselves. An empty parking lot and two hours and you're good to go. Slow on the gas and slow on the steering wheel. Just that simple. Most times over steering is the culprit. Maybe the statement some people never learn is truer than we thought. On the other hand it makes for some very funny videos. Docking this boat on a windy day must be hilarious.
