You are right but it is a little harder with outboards right next to one another. Works great on a cat hull or with inboards. These guys really just need to get one line secured and then back up against the line - this will pull them right into the dock.

Watching the skippers use the controls, I thought they were linked together and it was all or nothing, I asked in previous comments if one could be reversed while the other was in forward but got no reply. Fenders and lines both sides, coiled for easy precise throwing or casting over a bollard or cleat. So man lines are a bundle of knitting. A calm well prepared ahead of time crew. My old 1930s wooden boat originally fitted with twin Penter inboard engines, shafts and props either side of a center rudder. Swapped out for British Leyland 2.5 lt Diesel and later by me a pair of Ford 2.5 lts. same power half the size more room around the engines.. She had a deplacement hull and acted like a dream except when one prop was fouled by a large sand sack in 5 knots of current, one engine only gave steering wash one side of the rudder. Steering one way OK the other very slow and at the time I had to do a 180 head in under a swing bridge and into a lock.

That's one way, another is to use a line over an earlier bollard and blip the outside engine throttle forward turned into the dock. I used the method on the River Thames with 5 knots of stream and 10 or 15 locks a day to get through, sometimes mooring on the waiting pontoon as well.

Came standard on my trailer which is 20 years old ..... I'm surprised I don't seen them everywhere , cheap / simple / functional & very helpful

Let me tell the captain on the blue boat what to do in the future. First , the bow is tied off so the captain should turn hard to port. Apply a little throttle which will cause the stern of the vessel to swing around toward the dock. Make sure there is plenty of slack on the bow line to cpmpensate for the bow swing. Very simple, easy peezy.

That 32ft boat was hard to watch, if he would have just moved the motors to port, put on in gear on idle in the forward direction, that boat would have lined up perfectly. One thing you always say makes my eye twitch, and that is about how much easier it is to let the boat drift into the dock. You have little control when you do this, I prefer to power into the wind and current when landing, this give so much more control, and actually makes landing a lot easier. The real trick to this is coming in at a steeper angle.

I am not going to call the captains stupid, but I however will call them ignorant. 1: dont blame others for your poor actions, 2: learn to captain your vessel! Before all the poop talkers try to hate my comment; lemme explain, I went from never driving anything over a 9ft RIB (used for scuba off marina del rey) to a 40ft sport fisher. - First thing I did, I hired a captain to come with me as I floated it down from Santa Barbara to Marina del Rey - Made a day of it, pulled into Ventura harbor along the way and I learned a lot, asked a lot of questions. A week later, hired same captain to come teach me for the day how to dock and maneuver my boat - I made a lot of mistakes, but I learned. The biggest mistake I see these people make: 1: the put more throttle than steering. and also not knowing if they should forward steering left or reverse steering right 2: once the bow line is on the dock, simply put in reverse and bring the rear to the dock - GENTLY! 3: not having fore and aft ropes ready to go before they get to the dock. - if one person jumping off, jump off holding both ropes!!!! If I cam maneuver a 40ft in the wind between boats at my slip, so can these people, I am no one special, I just had a teacher and I practice all the time, even today 20years later! sometimes I try to align opposite side than normal and mix it up. Same with trailer, go to a big parking lot and practice!!!

@stevegiboney44933 жыл бұрын
It is so easy to dock a boat, I see almost zero people at this ramp doing it right, you drive at the dock, not fast but not crawling, from across the fairway, a couple of feet away, you throw it in reverse and crank the wheel the opposite direction and tap the gas. It stops all your forward momentum, and sucks the boat ( with fenders out) up parallel to the dock. Simple.
@Imdoyleking3 жыл бұрын
By my self, using your technique with fenders out and dock lines already tied to the boat, I can wrap my dock line, reverse boat with prop turned toward the dock and bingo boat is held against the dock until i get to the stern and tie it off. Oh, and I tell anybody on the dock that tries to help me, please don't, I got this. All they ever do is pull you too hard and always the wrong way.
@VangoghsDoggo3 жыл бұрын
They all need to learn how to throw a loop and use a spring line. Would solve 90% of what happens. Use the middle cleat, that is what it is there for. If you tie one end or the other, the untied end will always float away from the dock.
