MIB Infotainment version check (MIB1 MIB2 MIB2.5 MIB2Std MIB2High)

Check which generation of MIB Infotainment and which system you have in your car. There's number of versions and generations of these radio and navigation devices that differ with functionality and features like GPS navigation, Sirius & DAB radio, internal storage for jukebox, WLAN, App-Connect support and more.
Best and fastest way of checking it is by looking at the head unit part number and comparing with the list below. Luckily you don't have to remove the module to check part number that's written on it. You can check it though hidden menu or though version information in device settings.
✅ Check your MIB part number:
Go to CAR → Setup → System information → Device part number.
Press and Hold MENU button for 3 seconds, go to Software update/versions → Part number.

This is for one of your other videos about mib2 mk7 gti 2016 the radio losing the bluetooth and perfomance monitor lost and the infotainment system asking for the dealer purchase key I went my local dealer in palm springs California they never seen it but the re programmed it for a fee of 75 dollars in about 30 minutes thank you for your videos I hope this can help other's

Hi! There's a "license" file that stores activation keys for features like bluetooth, navigation, carplay, performance monitor, voice control... If this file (FecContainer.fec) gets corrupted or missing your head unit will not allow you to use these features. I would say that it's unlikely for it to get damaged. But as you can see it can happen. What you local dealer did? They connected the car to VW online system and requested VW server to generate new .fec file according to cars specification. Then uploaded it to the head unit. Good thing that they knew what to do and didn't want to replace the head unit with new one which would cost $500+ in parts AND would require the same .fec request&upload procedure for the fresh head unit.

If it's not there from the factory, then you can enable it only by hacking the main unit. Which you can not DIY at home. Check my video about FEC/SWaP codes to learn more.

Is it possible to go from composite media to a discover media unit by just changing hardware (screen and head unit in glove box) or is it more involved than that?

There's GPS antenna which you will need. Also the device is secured by Component Protection which will kick in and limit functionality of the unit as soon as the new device is powered in different car than it was fitted originally. You will have to remove CP at dealers when they verify that it wasn't stolen in the first place. Then they need to upload FEC/SWaP codes, because functionality of MIB units is protected with "license keys".

Biggest screen is 9,2”. It will not work with this unit. The biggest that you can fit is 8” glass display from facelift or 8” matte from the Discover Pro before facelift. Both will work.

That depends. AppConnect (CarPlay, AndroidAuto, MirrorLink) was an optional feature on some markets, standard on other. My MK7 came with MIB2 but AppConnect needed to be activated.

Yes. You can also check SW Train in hidden menu. If it starts with MHI2, it's MIB2 High. If it's MHIG, it's MIB1 High.

That looks like MIB2 Composition Media so it should have App-Connect (Carplay/AndoridAuto/MirrorLink) option in the menu. You can check my video about FEC/SWaP codes to learn more about what is available in your system.

For some unclear reason, the FEC / SWaP line doesn't appear to me. And the ability to enter the green screen menu is not possible .. Do you Know what can be done?

Most likely you would have to enable developer mode with tool like OBDeleven or VCDS. Some units / SW versions are like that.
