Reports show Mica Miller went to police repeatedly in the months leading up to her death, which came shortly after she served divorce papers to her husband, then a senior pastor at a South Carolina church. Her death has been ruled a suicide, but there are allegations her husband was abusive, and her family has raised questions about her death.

They usually do in cases like this. Unfortunately there are too many women who cry wolf, and too many bitter divorcees that just relish in keeping their ex in hell with legal troubles that police are almost immune to DV stalking situations. If one spouse calls the other mentally ill, that’s usually the end of it in their eyes. It’s very hard to get them to take you seriously once that happens.

You don't have to hurt a person physically to create devastating damage. In fact the psychological damage which mental and emotional abuse are causing are a lot worse than a bruise or a broken bone because they are invisible and the injured person can't verbalize it. It is not a big job to drive a person into suicide out of fear and helplessness, especially if you groomed her from a very young age on. That is one very big reason why strangers should never have a lot of access to your children.

She was starting to get away… but she didn’t get far enough away fast enough. She needed to get totally out. Extract herself to a new state, preferably at least halfway across the country. She got an apartment, but it was 10 minutes from her abuser. She started going to a new church, but still sang at her abuser’s church as recently as a few months ago. She was raising money to leave the country to go on missions, but he was showing up everywhere she went. And every time she tried to get away, he would call in a “mental health” check on her and have the authorities retain her against her will (which they are obligated to do if anyone reports a mental health emergency to them, even if the reporter is just doing it to control and abuse the person). He was using well intentioned laws to abuse her so she couldn’t get away UNLESS she just up and left. But he made even that nearly impossible because (by his own admission) he had a private investigator install tracking devices on her car so he ALWAYS knew where she was. I just wish she had bought a cash card at Walmart, then driven to the airport that day and bought a plane ticket with the cash card (so he couldn’t see where the ticket went to) rather than a gun. Unfortunately, I was her many moons and I know in that situation your brain just doesn’t function. I know it was my family that saved me from my situation. They got me across the country at the drop of a dime. It was treated like a rescue mission. Total extraction with no warning - I didn’t even know what was happening… and I definitely didn’t think there was a way out of my situation at all. But, if she had bought a plane ticket instead (or if one of her family members had rather than just sitting in terror as they watched what this man did to her), there are domestic violence shelters all over the country and his tracker trail would have ended at the airport. She could have gotten states away from him and just stayed in a shelter - maybe even volunteered there as she healed and started something new. But that’s now how her story ended. Sadly the cloud of abuse was too thick for her to see there was a way out that didn’t require her to do what she did. And no one in her life saw this other path either. So tragic. If you know someone in a stalker+ abuse situation, leaving the situation isn’t enough. Ending the relationship isn’t enough. Getting a restraining order isn’t enough. The ONLY thing that will end it without the victim ending up dead is if you help them get TOTALLY out and away - far away - leaving as little trail as possible. It’s financially devastating, it means saying goodbye to everyone and everything you know, it means giving up everything you built. It’s a type of death - but in the end, it’s the only way to really escape a stalker-abuser with your life. Unfortunately we don’t have laws that protect women in this situation. They are frequently treated as mentally ill and hysterical. Most of the time their stalker-abuser kills them. Sometimes they kill themselves. And probably less than 10% of the time, they are able to get away and have a chance at a new life… but even that 10% comes with a huge and horrible process of recovery and rebuilding from absolute ashes that is not for the faint of heart.

Deeply saddened that no one listened or cared enough. Everyone is on their own when it comes to dealing with abuse. EVERYONE. No one understands and everyone gaslights or makes the victim feel like they’re the problem. People are sometimes forced to take the measures that Mica took simply because the support system was most likely weak. Its the ones closest to you that let you down and the ones farther away give a F for a few minutes and then disappear. The victim is expected to seek help on their own and navigate through broken systems at a time when they’re not even in a state to do so. I mean which reasonable person wouldn’t consider taking their life at that point.

When i left my childrens father, who was super abusive, i had to go back and get my belongings from the house. Thats when i realized he had taken my gun. He was supposed to surrended all weapons he had at the time but he didnt surrender mine. When the sherrif got involved he said he had taken it week before bc i was dangerous with it. In reality a few days before we left he had told me to keep it on the counter to shoot the squirrels, even though we had an infant and a toddler in the house!! That day i made sure i knew where it was, took the magazine out and made sure nothing was in the chamber. Shows you how sick people will try to blame shift and make the victim seem like the perp! It was insane being in a relationship with someone so toxic and my heart aches for Mica and what she endured.

According to a friend, Mica was happy in early 2023 when she left to go to Kansas, joined a new church and was excited to do some mission work in Africa. But weeks later, her friends were shocked by a text saying her and JP reconciled and she went back to him. Sadly, this is what most women do in this situation. I agree with the JP haters but just remember that some blame has to be put on Mica. I know in this Me Too era, women dont want to hear that but I know many men who were driven to suicide by an ex also, except they received very little sympathy other than being scolded for falling for a crazy woman. Let Mica rest in peace. JP will get what is coming to him in this life or the next. Girls......be smarter in who you choose. There are many good men out there but you all dont want them. Quit craving the drama and find a stable man. Accept responsibility for your decisions.

Just know, these wolves in sheep's clothing hide this abusive side of them for years as things escalate slowly. By the time the victim realizes what's going on they are in too deep. The lying, manipulation and gaslighting are unfathomable. DV is hell on earth and the "help" and laws currently do not work. They make it harder on the victim than the abuser to escape or stay safe.
