Them fuel lines.. ⛽ 🔥 fire 🔥 You better invest in a "blase" fire supression system for the engine bay !

Oh yeah planning to!
@KA4UPW
@KA4UPW Жыл бұрын
@@MicBergsma The fuel lines you showed in the video are going to explode. You need a special type for air cooled fuel injection VWs due to the engine compartment temperatures. The special line has a solid stiff tube core wrapped in reinforced rubber sleeve and followed with a cloth braid insulation. Without the cloth outter cover, the engine temps rapidly age the non-treated lines where they prematurely fail causing a catastrophic fire. Im sure Skinner must have warned you ! Ive tried lines specially for FI, lines with a outter stainless metal braided sleve, but only the cloth insulated safely lasted. Im sure by now the bus is finished with upholstery and is back in Hawaii. I strongly encourage you to swap out that line.

When I was a kid, I used to hunt for jumping spiders. I kept one for a week, I was very curious about them, and then I let them go and look for another one. We also have one similar but with a hard shell like abdomen with horns on there said in black and white colors. Sometimes you could find one with a skull design on top of the abdomen or other types of pretty images.😊

I love all of the detailed and precision duplication of the front seat corner radius that was preformed utilizing CAD! (cardboard assisted design) BTW, my old bus looked very much like Kona in its original configuration, all the way down to the colors. After it’s engine gave up the ghost, and it was sitting on cinderblocks at my farm, west of Krum Texas, my oldest daughter, who was seven at the time would make a picnic lunch for herself and her two younger brothers, 5 & 3. Then off they went on imaginary road trips to far away places. Italy was a favorite destination. One day a random guy came to the door and offered to by the bus. It was straight, no major damage except a cooked engine. I was flabbergasted at the price, so much so that I didn’t haggle at all, just dug up the title and handed it over for $2K! That went a long way for a single dad of 3 in the mid 80’s. Anyway, y’all are doing an absolutely stunning restoration and rebuild. I’m more than blown away by the detail. Keep it up, and happy motoring about in beautiful Kona!

@@MicBergsma Almost every medium to large city especially if any industry is around have nut and bolts stores much cheaper than hardware or big box store especially when you have bought dozens and their quality control of the cheap Chinese stuff is actually much better because they sell to industry. So I’d you are buying a 316 stainless bolt that is what you will get not a 101 stainless bolt that will rust. Also if getting any stronger grade bolts say for the suspension or hanging the motor you can get the proper strength grade ! Beware .
@rayboucher479
@rayboucher479 Жыл бұрын
@@MicBergsma and the worst part is the SS you are buying and assuming it is 316 is more than likely a lower grade cheaper stainless that will rust. If it is the cheapest stainless try a magnet if it will pick it up it is really the junk and if it is a lower grade it may not be magnetic but will rust.

Perfect is the enemy of the good, but so is “not good enough”. My sublime gas tank was a bit of a disappointment. I had to modify the filler neck, and my tank did not include the longer sending unit. Also, I had the same problem with the hold down bolts, which were too short. I used threaded rod. I’m happy with it, though. Bigger engine and carrying more weight means more gas consumption. A bigger tank gets you back up to that 200 miles per fill-up range. It would be great to see a short real-time clip of you using Kona.

Hi you there… I saw you put longer bolts to hold the aluminum gas tank, on one of them you put a “ground” cable or connection? I asked because I think the bolts you used there are Stainless Steel, if thats the case, you can’t use them for ground points cause they’re not electric conductive, if you have a working problem connection with whatever you connected there, that could be problem, a ground on a SS bolt, not a regular metal one… Best Regards from Puerto Rico, keep the nice work 🎉

Hey thanks for the info. Good to know… so far the fuel pump and gauge are working that way but I might change that to be safe, thank you for the comment! 🙏🏼

Why use nuts and bolts to hold your aluminum channel for your light strips when you could have used 3 wood screws with countersunk heads as they would be plenty strong for the weight and would have made the heads flush with the aluminum and not had nuts and washers exposed inside your box ?

Put some lock nuts on those gas tank bolts otherwise they will back out and you’ll end up with a rattle tank. Curious if you considered applying epoxy resin and fiberglass on the plywood? Moisture and mold is your enemy in busses.

Thanks for the tip, I will fix that Lori already brushed the Polyurethane protection sealant on them. I didn't think about epoxy resin 😆🤦🏼‍♂️ All wood will not be visible after upholstery install
