CORRECTION: As a few others have stated, MTM designs typically offer a better horizontal off-axis response when placed vertically, not horizontally. Experiment and see what works best for you.

Yeah, that definitely needed a correction as to not cause confusion. I'm surprised that you didn't pick up on that (the problems with an MTM being horizontal) when listening to them and moving about the room.
@joentell
@joentell 5 жыл бұрын
@@wymotome I had them laying on their side for nearly a month on my main system. Listened to them day in, day out. No issues. I preferred them that way actually. Not sure if they did anything differently or if it's because my speakers are slightly lower than ear level so that placement might have helped with that. In any case, I think it's always important to try different things if you can because what you think might not work, might actually work for reasons you didn't consider.

Joe. Thumbs up as usual for a good video. Please double check your comments on dispersion, lobeing, and speaker orientation. Placing an MTM on it's side will result in lobeing in the horizontal plane. Placing vertically should provide a wide listening area with less lobeing when moving left to right. If I'm wrong call me out, just want to make sure your audience has the correct information.
@joentell
@joentell 5 жыл бұрын
I think you're correct actually. Another commenter said the same thing. I was going based on what I heard. Perhaps it's these speakers, my room or the way their positioned, but my experience was counter to that. I'm thinking it was the placement.

Having the speakers set up horizontally, the woofer spacing causes the woofer passband to have a narrower horizontal dispersion. Orientating then vertiacally, with the woofer spacing, provides a narrower vertical disperion. Therefore, you are saying the dispersion horizontally in relation to the tweeter is more consistent, I am assuming, when you orientate it horizontally.

Kinda random...You did a tear down of the Ikea Sonos speaker. I'm wondering what the best speaker (value and sound) would be to use with the guts of the Ikea speaker. IE; it's crossover and amplifier paired with what budget speaker.
@JesseArt
@JesseArt 5 жыл бұрын
They are noticeably missing that low end in the sound demo at the end. That said, I do like what they're doing everywhere else. I mean, they seem to sound just as their frequency response graph would suggest. In that price range, that seems pretty good. I wonder though. Should one buy these...or just cough up another $50 for the RB42s? The RB42-C is actually the same price at the moment as well at just under $100. It seems that Micca is competing against itself in this market segment. That's pretty great for us :)
@joentell
@joentell 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly why I used that sound demo. It shows where it needs a sub. I like certain characteristics of this speaker over the RB42 when crossed over and paired with a sub. The RB42's sounf a lot better when no sub is used.
@JesseArt
@JesseArt 5 жыл бұрын
@@joentell Have you tried out the RB42-C yet? I came across Zeo's vids on the OoOs and he seems to think that the single port on the RB42-C limits the low end on those 4" woofers. It's the same size port as with the OoO, but the box looks like it has quite a bit more volume. As a center channel though, I'm not sure how much it would matter?
@joentell
@joentell 5 жыл бұрын
@@JesseArt Doesn't matter much if you're crossing over above the tuning frequency of the port. You will likely crossover at 80hz+ not 40 or 50hz. I've heard from fellow moderators on Budgetaudiophile on Reddit, that the RB42-c is designed to play louder (higher sensitivity) at the sacrifice of low frequency extension.

@@joentell I have the 652 air, they sound laid back on bass, bit nasal @3KHz, I've re jigged the X over, tossed out the 6.8 electro for a 4uF MKP and added a 0.3mH coil to woofer. I now listen to micca MB42 and pleased with them after superceding the Polk T15. Erin's audio corner poo poo'd the MB42X speakers and cheapaudioman hates the T15

Hello good time I follow your videos and I really like it, I want to set up an audio system, and micca AD250 + micca Micca COVO-S Compact 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers, I got the micca ad250 amp, its speaker is left, I wanted to ask you Please make a test video and audio test from the speaker micca covo-s speakers so that I can make the right decision to buy it. Thank you very much.

I wouldn't recommend the Covo-S as main speakers. They just don't have enough bass unless you use them with a sub. I use them for Atmos height speakers. I would say go with the MB42X, OoO, or RB42.

Joe N Tell Hi Mr. Joe n tell, thank you for your reply and guidance, I love the RB42 speaker myself. After watching your video, I really liked the rb42 model. I have to order from Amazon or foreign sites, I have to order from intermediary sites, in which case because of the difference between the price of the dollar and the currency of my country and the costs of the global post and the costs of the intermediate site, the finished price of my product is several times the dollar price. I don't have a friend in the United States or any other country to give him the product money so that he can post it for me and reduce the cost of intermediate charity, because the weight of the product is about 7.5 kg and his postage and expenses cause the price to rise. You can easily buy Callaro at the same dollar price, that's why I wanted to go to covo-s, but I like RB42 very much and I love it. I will be grateful to you

Thanks for another great review. Somehow KZbin unsubscribed me from your channel!! I didn't do it I wondered where you'd been and searched for you and poof you were gone. Weird. Anyway I'm subscribed again and catching up on some videos. These are cool little speakers and I just got my first receiver this week: the Onkyo TX-NR686. Couldn't beat the clearance price. I really struggled with getting the Pioneer sp-fs52 set with matching bookshelves and center or the Elac Debut 2.0 b6.2 ... until I saw you and Zeos review these. I can do a full 7 speaker system of these for a fraction of the price of the others. And for my apartment I think they'll be plenty. If by chance I don't like them I'll return them and try something else of course. I'd really like to add dual SVS PB 1000 subs but might go super cheap and get the Bic America f12 even though it doesn't dip as low it's still very well reviewed and half the cost of one PB 1000. I think either way it'll sound great and a huge step up over my soundbar! Thanks so much for your honest reviews and product knowledge. I've learned so much from you and Techno Dad and Youthman and others and it's greatly appreciated. Really looking forward to getting my speakers and watching my movies again and experiencing them all over again.

MTM designs actually have better off-axis performance when oriented vertically. In a horizontal orientation an MTM will have destructive interference between the woofers causing worse off-axis performance. Take a look at this Audioholics article: www.audioholics.com/loudspeaker-design/center-channel-designs-1

It's easy enough to change the orientation and see what works best for you. It could be that my speakers are slightly below ear level so it helped when they were horizontal.

Cheap speakers with a SB3000 sub..Lol...what promtion... I like SVS too, they have great products in all their speakers and subs, SVS pb1000 sub would be much closer and better match for budget Yet for best budget and great performance, I would go with a Dayton audio Sub 1200. It's a helluva sub for Yep $150... works great....

It would be super awesome if you did a video on in wall/in ceiling speakers For those of us that have to use them either for surrounds or for the entire setup because we don't get approval for speakers in the main living room. KZbin is seriously lacking on these type of videos. Also low profile on-wall speakers with good sound and aesthetics, for those of us that are trying our best to avoid the in walls, but bookshelves are just too big and boxy. I wish there were good transducer panel speakers that could be hung on the wall like a piece of artwork, like distributed mode loudspeakers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXysqphqh79ga80 That would be bitchin'

@@joentell I guess that makes sense. I've never been able to figure out why KZbin is so devoid of reviews and testing of these setups, when they are installed in all kinds of new construction and remodel homes. I think it's because the people who like speakers hate the compromise of in-wall/ceiling speakers. Some kind of super low profile on wall speaker that looks really awesome would be a great alternative. I think those panel style speakers really prefer to sit several feet out away from a wall, so that kind of defeats the purpose of their thin profile. The type of speaker I link to in my comment is a pretty bad ass idea if somebody could create good-looking version of those that look like artwork sort of suspended from the ceiling. I'm told they sound pretty great, but no idea.

@@luke9822 I made these speakers that are made to go on a wall. You could make them look like a painting if you got the fabric printed. They can also be made thinner. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHeliHqkm72VrZY
