I don't think Tom Cruise would work with Bay. Michael Bay's sets are genuinely dangerous stunt people have talked about it in the past, an extra was almost killed on the set of one of the transformers films and left with permanent brain damage, an extra who should have never been anywhere near any kind of stunt equipment. Tom Cruise is a real professional when it comes to his stuff and he only puts himself at risk. The story the woman in this clip talks about where he shoots a scene 3 weeks ahead of schedule because he had an idea is a safety disaster, that's 3 weeks of prep lost and he want to change it last minute because he has this new idea.

Gotta give Bay credit for going hard with the practical FX / stuntwork. I always took the spectacle of these sort of films for granted, but actually making them must've been glorious chaos. Don't miss the shaky cam craze though, I like my cinema trips to be motion sickness free. Just hold a damn long shot, already!

But to hold a long shot you need to plan out a scene for a lot of time and fill everyone in on what their supposed to do. If your idea is "I got to helicopters and a river. Let's do this." You can't do that. Because helicopters are expensive you shoot with many cameras. And because you don't have an exact plan how you want to shoot the scene you make a lot of cuts.

I think I remember hearing from someone, either as a joke or partially serious, that Michael Bay is technically one of the best directors out there simply on the merit that he is almost perfectly able to take the ideas in his head and bring them out onto the screen. The only caveat is that his ideas are mostly dumb and over-the-top.

She was an extra not a stunt person safety was not properly followed and she shouldn't have been in the position she was in which is why when her family sued paramount they chose to settle for $18.5m. I saw a video of a stunt person talking about a day on I think it was transformers 4 where about 5 different stunt performers were hospitalised back to back trying to get this stunt involving a bus filmed.

@@AGD_27 accidents happen no matter how well something is rehearsed, just look at Jackie Chan. Its not on Bay it’s on the stunt coordinator that signed off on it. It’s their job to tell the director if something is too dangerous.

@@KelticTim using Jackie Chan is a bad example because the majority of his films are made in China and in China they don't really have safety rules he's famously talked about just accepting injury as part of the game which is not the right way to do things from a safety perspective. Yes accidents happen but the example I gave were clearly the result of a team being pushed to execute complex things on a short deadline, like doing something 3 weeks ahead of schedule because he had an idea. The only people who should ever be at risk when it come to a stunt is stunt performer's who signed up knowing the risk and even then they should be rare, for a extra to get injured and left with permanent brain damage a lot of people had to fuck up and the example I gave with the bus is even worse. It was a scene where a bus was in mid air for some reason and the plan was no window and pads on the ground so that's what the stunt guy trained for but when they got there there were tinted windows so they couldn't see where they were falling and there were no mats and the way the stunt guy tells it it was, first take someone head got cut open hospital, second take arm got cut open hospital, third take someones shoulder got dislocated and the camera car almost ran them over hospital, and on take four he said he was looking around like fuck well whos next, all this time Michael as the director should have stepped in and said to the safety director "what the fuck is going on here fix the problem so people don't get hurt" but he didn't.
