I remember hearing how Charlie Parker professed a liking for country music and his jazz colleagues were mystified at his interest in this primitive form and challenged him on it. He reputedly responded - "It's the stories, man". Well funnily enough that is one of the big draws to jazz for me. It's the stories, man.

I believe what Papa Jo meant by this, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, is that it's just life advice: You can plan for how you want things to turn out and things may happen they way you want them to, but nothing is certain in life and you have to embrace the beauty in that you don't know is around the corner. That's what I'm taking from it anyway.
