I saw Michael somewhere around 2008 live in a small cafe in Gooreind Belgium. I didn't know his music and was introduced to it by a friend. He realy stole my musical heart in a sec and "Empty Promises" is of course an amazing, sad , but so beautiful song. I bought 3 cd's which he very kindly signed. He took time to make a little chat. Ever since that day, he was a great influence to me, as a guitar player!! There are a lot of "Empty Promises" covers, out there, and many are great, but when you hear Michael doing it, it's just magic. RIP big guy!!!

same here, but after watching both versions 20+ times I must admit I tend to like the original from Michael Burks better. The sound and sheer density of the Kingfish-solo is more sophisticated, but Michael is celebrating a complete song whereas Kingfish is just focusing on the solo and adds to many Jazz-elements. Michael is delivering a blues that is more pure and hard core.Just my opinion.
You were pure gold. Thank you for your music SIR, LOVE YOU!!! You were the one who showed me and taught me "THE BLUES!" You know what i am saying...

Fortunate enough to have seen this great musician in action at two different Blues Festivals in the last couple of years. I will just say that this song has soul and I found out about him in a round about kind of way through Christone (King Fish)Ingram shoes version of this song I just love. Rock and Blues with soul. Albert said some guys can play really fast but forget to put in the soul. This guy didn't.I am a drummer and like the both bass and drums on this also. Rock/Blues sad blues ballad.Sad to hear at passed away from a blood clot on a plane back from Europe recently. A great guitar player was lost that night. R.I.P. Christone is carrying on your legend and you left us this beautiful song. Rest well. Jeff
