The story is Daryl (MJ) is on break from his upstate highschool and comes back to his old neighborhood and finds his old friends are now gangsters but he still wants to hang out with them. They push him to be more like them but when he is unable to be bad/cool like them he lashes out into song and dance to show them not only is he cool but he's cool in a different way. its based on a real life situation where the actual Daryl was killed by his old friends for changing, so MJ made the music video to show you don't need to be like them to fit in.

Dang, MJ's video's got some serious depth!
@faridsoccerstar9 ай бұрын
The song and dance sequence (shot in color) is only happening in MJ's character's mind. Wesley Snipes and the other two are not seeing what we're seeing. That's why the video goes back to black and white with MJ wearing his hoodie and being alone at the end. This entire video is a nice way to test the level of intelligence of people. A lot of them fail, unfortunately.

This was the long version of the video. MTV usually showed the much shorter version. I was 15 years old in 1988. Those were amazing years we had! Cheers from a Gen X'er in northeast Ohio.

Hey, guys! First of all, love your channel, don't stop with the reactions! I'm a HUGE fan of MJ (both as an entertainer and as a human being), but I totally understand the fact that some aspects of this particular music video might feel a bit weird and odd when seen as a 2024 production. However, I believe it's very important to understand that, back in 1987, this was absolutely revolutionary artistically: the whole production of a large-budget cinematic piece of art had never been seen in a MUSIC VIDEO before. Although "Thriller" was... "Thriller", in the "Bad" one, the script, the color effects, the direction, the acting itself, everything was improved to a (1987) Hollywood level of production - Martin Scorsese directing it is a great example of that. Also, regarding Wesley Snipes, this was his "debut" in Hollywood: he'd done some small things before, but his performance in MJ's music video caught the eye of visionary director Spike Lee, who later casted Snipes as one of his most celebrated roles in movies. Finally, if you want to know or explore the whole idea behind "Bad" (not only the song/music video, but also the full album) and how/why it was created and done the way it was, i'd HIGHLY recommend watching "Bad 25", a documentary released in 2012, as a celebration to the 25th birthday of the original album, and magically directed by Spike Lee. Bye, guys - and, please, do more MJ reactions!

They filmed this in Brooklyn at Hoyt-Shemohorn train station and the reason why its empty is because they blocked off a part of the station to film it...the reason why I know I went to George Westinghouse at the time.

Prince was supposed to be the Wesley Snipes character. He said he wasn’t going to do it because of the first line, “ Your butt is mine.” He said he wasn’t going to sing that to Michael and he wasn’t going to have Michael sing it to him. Apparently Prince got the song from Michael to listen to it and he totally rewrote the song. He was going to send it back to Michael but then erased it.

7:44 - To answer that question...NOT THAT I CURRENTLY OR HAVE EVER OPERATED THIS WAY 😳, the squad scoped that dealer making a few ends off of drug deals, subtly plotting to rob him- It'd be easier to jump the guy especially since he was disabled, steal all his money (or even his drugs so they sell 'em themselves), and split it between each other 4 ways. However, the pusher was armed (and dangerous) as you saw, giving unsettling indication that he's down to go as far as they're willing to take it (dude's only protecting his turf and earnings). But even in the context of this scene, you can see how uncomfortable Mike's character was, considering he was trying to turn his life around and his friends were still on that same ol' bullshit. That's what Wesley Snipe's character meant by "Hunt's up. Yo, Hunts up, homeboy. I mean we got victims out there waitin' for us!" @ 8:04- 8:14 . That means, although the first attempt failed, there are still plenty of people out there to mug, rob, and become victims of their petty crimes, such as the gentleman at the subway station Mike asked for a quarter. That was "Daryl's aka Foots" old life, but he didn't want to continue down that road. Hope that helps.
