I've been a fan of Michael's since he first came on. He was truly a magical musical messenger sent as a gift. His enormous talent, dedication to perfection, and his huge heart for humanity combined into having an unique impact on people all over the world. He was never afraid to speak truth to power or uplift spirits and hearts in a call unto our better angels. His message was always compassion, love, and understanding qualities in much shorter supply these days it would seem. He was universally adored for how his passion inspired people to dwell on a higher plane. He paid a huge price for his impact and power and was one of the most gossiped and lied about person in the world. His legacy will live far longer than his detractors. You should watch his official video of this as it includes war images it was focused more on the planetary ecosystem destruction and the choices the greedy make for personal gain. Boy, what a song. My late husband and I used to crank this one regular. It was a wonderful surprise after buying MJ's Greatest Hits. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Excellent choice.

Rock on! My mom had that album and I remember being 10ish just listening to the last 4 songs on that album on repeat over and over. Funny little story for you. My first born son absolutely loved MJ in the womb and as a new born. He had extreme colic and one of the few songs that would make him fall asleep was Ben, Man in the Mirror, They Don't Care About Us, ABC 123, as well as Adele. This was the first time I listened to anything MJ outside of Beat it, Thriller, Smooth Criminal, and Billie Jean

It's a very hard song to sing in general and yeah this is more about the overall theatrical performance and the important message rather than showing off vocal prowess. Plus in the late 90s he was apparently struggling with some breathing issues so some songs like this it was just better to have lip sync to the playback. And first time I saw this, I did not expect a frickin' tank to appear on stage. :O And yeah that part where he's hanging from the crane. As a professional dancer he was obviously light and incredibly strong (doing the Smooth Criminal lean live on stage with the special shoes requires immense core and leg strength), so he was easily capable of holding himself up from there but it still looks dangerous and his crew and insurance company probably panic every time he did it just in case he slipped, got injured or died. And yeah I have respect for the soldiers on whatever side of the battlefield, not so much the generals and leaders safely back at HQ treating all those solders as disposable chess pieces rather than individual human lives with families.
