Michael Landau is such a player. Total tonal control, beautiful phrasing, so in command of the instrument. Some of the newer "so called" shredders or wannabies should learn from this guy, as professional and dedicated as you can get.

@GuitarSlinger2112 Wow, thanks! That's boggled my mind first since I heard a track by this band I played with (members of anyway) in Indianapolis called Rok Hollywood - then the Janet Jackson #1 "Black Cat." Nice to know how it's done.
@JusticieroDeLaMuerte13 жыл бұрын
@vracan Of course, but a lot of us love Landau's tone and playing.
@GuitarSlinger211214 жыл бұрын
@CircleCityEric it's hammer on/pull offs with left hand and lightly running your flesh down the strings with the right hand. Don't take your right hand off, just glide it down. Try it with left hand frets 5,3,0,5,3,0 etc... Works best on the bass strings.

u pull off with 3 fingers (5-4-2) and while doing that u slide with your right hand over the string u are playing on and move to your left hand (dont mute the string!) ;)
@whynottalklikeapirat15 жыл бұрын
you just hammer on/pull of and run either your pick or right hand up the strings along the neck at the same time, automatically alternating between muted sounds and overtones. Usually works best on the deeper strings but it all depends on the guitar and overall sound. Obviously distortion is needed for full effect, although it can be done without for a different feel.

@samdan20 pull offs like this work easy with a pick slide... he's just using his nail as the hard slider point and hammering/pulling off and producing the harmonics...

What steve and scott meant is that michael landau is one of the so amazingly rare one shot guitarist of the world. PLayed over 15,000 albums becuase when you pay your studio bill it costs your house, and with michael, you pay his flight ticket, tells him what you wnat, and in one shot, your record is done. cheaper than playing yourself. Sounds "cheating" but if you play yurelf live, you don't loose your pride :D

The guy has great tone and touch, but his playing is just a little too rhapsodic rhythmically for my taste. I always find myself thinking, "Ok, you've floated over the beat enough ... now just lock in for a little bit to even things out ..." And he never really does. Or at least, not enough, IMHO. Killer tones, though.
