Wow!! The strongest, most concise and precisely spoken commentary for years!!!! "Everybody knows"!!! So very true!! Thank you Micheal for being a voice for decency and for having the nutz to fight for it!!! I lost my son to homicide in 2012, Someone else I know was taken last week. In between those incidents, hundreds of other homicides have devastated the lives of thousands of family and loved ones. The current situation is a nightmare. As long as Coster is Commisioner, no one is actually doing the job.

That's right the left wing ideology that the western world is a tyrannical patriarchy made by white people and only for white people and is corrupt and oppressive and must be destroyed, Biden Trudeau,Arden all working together to destroy the middle class by going after our children with the LGBT and attacking woman so they don't produce anymore white men, destroying the family unit, it goes on and on

100% agree. In the 70's as a NZ Polioceman we were instructed to stop the patrol car, get out and conduct foot patrols of shopping malls, hotels and other places where the public were gathered. It worked ! Why this does not happen now is defenceless. To not do this was considered a serious neglect of our sworn duty. Coster is in no way a valid leader of the people sworn to protect us. His cousin neglected her sworn duty as well. God defend New Zealand. The Police are lead and directed by a useless cop not to do their sworn duty.,

I was at Christchurch Airport listening to Boarding Announcements Would Andrew Coster please go to the Gate. The Aircraft is leaving shortly. This announcement was repeated 3 times and then I saw the actual Commissioner Andy Cuddles / Lantern Coster in a light blue uniform shirt with his uniform jacket over his arm, dawdling towards the Regional Gate. I regret not shouting at him to hurry up (as I pay his wages). He did not seem to care about holding the flight up or inconveniencing the traveling public and AirNZ's schedule.

Do people realise that Andrew Coster's salary is a whopping $700,000 a year. He is the most invisible and lazy police commissioner in NZ history. When asked once what's his policy on gangs, he said. "I find it's better to work with them than against them." That worked well didn't it Andy

That wasn’t even in the terms of reference as it glowed in the dark too much. There was also a gun shop owner who reported to police Tarrant trying to purchase 2,000 bullets. As a responsible person he reported it to police who did nothing. When he tried to discuss it with the chair of the investigation, she shut him down saying his comments were inappropriate.

Indeed Coster should had gone at the change of government. I cannot understand why the new Police Minister did not make that change. Supposedly he had given Coster a letter of expectations, but to date all we see is more crime. The Minister made a statemennt that we have a "World Class Police Department". If they are that good why then is crime still running wild? Yes change is needed , maybe the Police Minister too. Being an ex Cop maybe he is not objective enough to see the problem?

One of the big problems for police on the beat, is the good cops that do the collaring of crims, have to waste their time following up with the due process of filing reports right up to court.. this is a cost cutting system that fails when their is out of control youth crime.., take away the due process form filling for the Good cops arresting the crims and use non sworn police staff to do the paper work so the competent police can get straight back on the beat.. or patrol... hiring 500 more police doesn't work as they will also be trapped in this paper shuffling system...The Prime Minister has no clue of this system as hes never been informed... and never will be informed...

Labour spokespeople never expressed pure outrage when dairy bashings occurred. All calm and rational and deaf to public outrage. Meanwhile, impacted communities were driven to protest police inaction and wrist-slapping sentences, bolstered by cultural reports (now there’s a nice little industry). Finally, forced to re-introduce police on the beat, Coster announces what should have been implemented years ago. He’s come to the party not because he’s realised the error of deaf inaction, but because the weight of the new government has compelled him.

I wish I could comment on Master Coster, but KZbin would ' take it down'. Many years a go in, in a North Island City, on a Thursday to Saturday night, there was a "team Policing" activity, a group of ten Constables led by a Sargent, would patrol the City (several cars, a paddy wagon & dog unit) and one area they targeted, without warning was ALL the Pubs - one in particular which seemed to attract young ladies, resident's of the boarding section of the Girls High school. The effect the Police had on crime, underage drinking/drink driving and other 'anti social behaviour' (car burn outs was a thing into the future) was rather dramatic - Oh how well behaved people became, because you did not know when and where the Police team would turn up. I believe the same tactic was used in Auckland for many years. Oh the other thing, back chat toward a Police Officer was a " No-No".

Police chiefs getting voted in can lead to corruption as well. All you need is good strong men in leadership, and good strong men following, and anything is possible. Crime can be beaten, but the courts and justice system must also function in a positive way. Back in the day the Police oath taken when sworn in was: Protect life and property, detect and apprehend criminals, keep the Queen's peace. Simple and effective. Then Police started going to uni getting degrees in waffle and it started turning to custard. By the 80's Police HQ was talking about an oath three quarters of a page long, full of waffle and garbage. The rot set in. The courts were handing out slaps on the wrist with a wet bus ticket for serious crimes, and it became time to bail out. Policing is probably still in free fall.

Labour and Coster didn't want to police because this would have picked up a disproportionate number of anti-social predators will be found to be of one particular ethnic group. Michael Laws - Coster is not "a waste of space" - he is a wasted opportunity to have an effective person in the job who was not governed by a political ideology and narrative, but getting someone into the job who is determined to "enforce the law", not "interpret" the law.

This sounds like a good idea, but why have we waited so long? Is it because Coster is too interested in woke BS and not so interested in doing his job properly?

Coster is a chameleon - presenting whatever colour he needs to present to the politician to preserve his position for as long as he can. He single handedly grew gangs and youth crime.

Your analogy to Rugby football administration is a sad indictment of the narrowness of thinking in New Zealand. Surely we can think more laterally and see a much bigger picture?

One can only assume that Coster has brought into some ineffective policing theory founded on garbage scholarship within the field of criminology. Astounding he hasn't been sacked given that during his tenure the police have failed by every conceivable metric to uphold the law and protect the public.
