I kind of understand his attitude after '08. Not that I condone drugs or laziness even, but I can see how he would be dying to explore everything at his age. His talent locked him in a strict lifestyle for years and he's probably never had the chance to just have fun in his teenage years like the rest of us.

I admire him and his mother so greatly. Not only for his success and all the medals he earned but for the person he is. The kind gentleman he is. How he adores his mother and his wife and new baby boy too. To the world he is an unstoppable decorated Olympic legend but when he sat down for an interview on ESPN he shared some of his most intimate struggles that no one ever knew. After all he is still a person, he is human. He feels pain just like others do. With all his success and his record breaking title, there is still a person behind all that achievement and had felt heartache in life just as you and I do. I admire him for that and his mother too. She raised him well with no credit to his father.

As a swimmer, I've always looked up to Michael Phelps. Nothing has changed! He is back on his game, and you know what? Celebrities have "drug problems" all the time and he's man enough to admit it was a one time mistake and that he can't have any regrets. He's a great swimmer, and great guy, and great mentor! Love you Phelps, and go kick some butt like we all know you can

Losing your 'fire' after an accomplishment like Phelps' is expected and in fact even necessary. He has nothing more to prove. More importantly, it shows he is just human. I am glad he let himself go and took a few bong hits. You will always be an inspiration Michael, always.

I row competitively-nothing close to olympic level-but at the end of a really hardcore season all I want is a summer away from training. The strain on the body and the effect it has on your emotions and mental strength can really be enormous. Imagine what it's like not getting a break for years and years.

it really pisses me off when people criticize him. before y'all talk try to reach his level, and that will probably never happen so quit yapping. whether you like him as a person or not, what he has accomplished is incredible and that alone is admirable and something to look as inspiration and motivation for whatever YOU want to achieve.

Just watched him today at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN where the USA Olympic Swim Team is training. Michael swam great! He swam countless laps with varying strokes. His unique physical structure is perfect for swimming. He's ready. Watch out London!

I saw Michael Phelps swim at the 2010 nationals in Irvine, watching the 200m freestyle and butterfly finals. I saw the times on the board, and the post race interviews; the fans in the stands felt something was off. He recorded 1:56, calling it the worst race of his life.

@michaelshan223 ай бұрын
Yea that was never something that felt like it added up. Some of Phelps' career best times came in FINA 2009. There prob was a lot of truth to Michael slacking off from practice a little after Beijing 2008 but he still was in great swimming shape. Felt kinda like 60 Minutes wanted to push a storyline.
@dchang113 ай бұрын
I attended the 2010 Nationals in Irvine, the same meet where Bob Bowman mentioned the Las Vegas trip. Fans in the stands who followed Michael closely noticed his times were off, and Michael admitted that in a post-race interview. At the time, I thought age was a factor.

HE's in great shape to PARTY!!! His coach said he was at a 9. Not a 10. Michael's gonna have to rely on luck(relay races) and luck(not making mistakes). My only complaint is that REAL SWIMMERS aren't allow to just say their shit about Michael. Michael would do the same to any other swimmer if he was working hard. Sport announcers are like "used car salesman" they gotta hype, hype, hype. I'm just pissed, because I wasted my time watching Michael "GIVE AWAY" the 200m Butterfly last night.
