Pink Floyd: A Saucerful of Secrets Mono Remaster

This album was my introduction to Pink Floyd and remains a favorite. I have a poster o' the cover on my livin' room wall. It's the first cover created by Hipgnosis. Many years ago I bought a mono cd (bootleg) 'n the first note o' the first song, Let There Be More Light is missin'! A friend was able to restore that note from the stereo version. Great to see this released in mono again-thanks for the informative video. All the best from John.

My mono version is “scheduled” today. I won’t listen to it until I I finish listening to my Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Art Blakey pressing from the Lost Recordings Company. Cheers

I like your voice. You sound like a decent guy. I will watch other reviews for sure. Regarding mono releases, the rule of thumb is that all UK records produced until 1968 should have their mono versions as original and stereo as the releases for people who could afford hi-fi. Usually those versions were mixed without bands' commitment. That's why I prefer mono over stereo. The sound is how band wanted it to be (mostly)

Purchased this mono version when it was released on Record Store Day in 2019. It was probably a so-called RSD First Release, hence its current re-release.. The same thing happened with the recent re-release of the mono Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It's nice that more people can now acquire these mono versions. Speaking of mono versions. I just found out that Coltrane's Atlantic album My Favorite Things is about to be reissued in a 2 LP package that contains both the stereo version and the long lost mono version, until recently thought to have been lost forever (therefore not included on the Coltrane mono Atlantic box that was issued several years ago). This is very exciting.

David Gilmore had a hand in helping Syd Barrett with his solo work. That's a great story in itself. The Syd solo stuff, including Opel, is great.

Yes, he started out trying to figure out Syd's parts - and likely succeeding (up to a point, as he was systematic and Syd was experimental). He did great. And he did well on Syd's solo LPs!

I agree with your assessment on the sound, and getting it for comparison if you like to do that. It’s not too expensive now, and it’ll probably be harder to find than the others at some point. I like the sound of the Pipers reissue better than this one, but it’s still amazing content and quality. I will say mine arrives with a scuff, some shavings and fingerprints, but it doesn’t affect play.

Did you say you Did find a mono copy? I could not locate one on Discogs - long list, sometimes it just said "album" but none turned out to say Mono.

Listened to mine last night. Don’t have the stereo to compare, but it did seem flat to me, especially at lower volumes. That was not my impression with Piper several weeks back when it arrived. Not sure If it is from the pressing/mastering or in the original recording. Still a great LP to have.

Although its not my favourite work from Pink Floyd, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun is the ultimate Pink Floyd Song. You can find chords and cadences of it in almost every single hit from the band.

I have never seen a Ummagumma mono version. After all it was already the time of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" and the mono era was definitely over. And to be honest I would not be very much interested in a mono version either as there are a lot of spatial effects in the studio part of Ummagumma, for example the famous fly swatter section.

I agree 100%. I also have both the mono and stereo. Piper at the gates of dawn was slightly better in mono than stereo. what do you think?

I have a mono copy of saucer as well on purple see thru vinyl..I purchased about 10 years back A nice cool find! Incidently are you aware of a company in colorado called G.R Research & the mods That Danny Richie Does on speakers ?

This Mono release was not as stunning as the Mono release of Piper. A nice add on would have been the alternative mix of Jugband Blues the early pressings of the Australien Nice Pair. No Umma Gumma Mono tapes, as far as i know. The Live section are cut-togethers, so the 2 Shows are available, Interstellar Overdrive was recorded too, but I guess, no way Pink Floyd Management will let go on Vinyl (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gofHZHyNqcZjrLs - 18:15) . The Studio Album is, what it is.

They used to, but I"m not sure if records have changed and that is no longer true. OR perhaps there are some mono cartridges that sound better on some records. Anyone with a mono Switch (or button) on their amp should try it out, for sure.

UMMA GUMMA is my favourite Floyd 2LP album followed by ATOM HEART MOTHER....BOTH these albums are disowned by the creators as indulgences.....what dull fellows the Floydians are....Umma Gumma was recorded in 1969...I am fairly certain MONO became extinct in 1968....
