I am the total opposite of you, I strongly dislike the shorter races, I feel like they're over too fast. I love the longer races like the 1500m, 800m, and 400m IM just because I get to build my pace throughout the race, and then go fast when I get to that pace. I find it interesting that you prefer the shorter races
