The fact that Ren released an album earlier this year as an independent artist not signed to a record label and not that long ago that very album went to number one in the UK speaks volumes for how his not chasing numbers statistics or stats doesn’t mean you can’t be successful. He has made his thing through his pure artistry and intellect and his wonderful personality which you can see if you watch all of his twitch streams and KZbin videos about his illness and his music in general that he is a wonderful person and sadly is still struggling with illness. I would give anything to be able to take it from him. He deserves that much. He is not just a musician and singer/songwriter he is a producer a director an actor and so much more for those of you who aren’t aware his music genre when it comes to these style of songs has now been referred to as BARDCORE relating to the old Tavern Tale Bards in mediaeval times with a modern twist I have referred to him as a modern day Shakespeare with a guitar. He is so talented in so many ways and yet so incredibly humble. I don’t remember who it was but years ago I heard a famous actor say that.’ EGO KILLS TALENT.’ And I believe that to be totally true and I don’t ever fear that Ren even if he became a billionaire would ever suffer from being egotistical he is the most down-to-earth artist I have ever had the pleasure to listen to during a live stream on his own personal twitch or KZbin channel. I mean most artists who have a number one selling album don’t do their own KZbin and twitch streams that I have ever seen anyway. You need to get EMMA to react to The Tale of Jenny and Screech. I would so love to see her react to that. I genuinely think she would love it.

@@Shelleyc1972 I agree. Every time I hear that verse I choke up. I've been there. Not necessarily a rope but a bridge. When I first ever saw this Ren video and he started to do the Yodelling I immediately thought of a cuckoo. Widely known as having conotations with mental health ( One flew over the Cukoos nest. Or some people say hes/she has went Cuckoo "crazy" for example.) Ive noticed since that both yodelling sections seem to be different. My take is that in the first is Ren fighting with himself switching between the dark and the light. The second yodelling section is his acceptance that the dark side of himself will always exist and so stop being so hard on yourself like he mentions at the end. Ren is a total genius imo were so blessed at the minute to have so much talent coming out.

As I have listened to this particular song for 100s of times over. Reading the lyrics he provides in the description of his songs. The pure courage and tenacity, as well as his precise attention to the details of contrast and conflicts in duality while staying 'in character' for each delivery of lyrical mastery..all wrapped up in a perfect loose noose 'bow'. - Nice assessment and expected reaction from a musical mind with a 'fresh' exposure perspective. ...and who doesn't absolutely adore a woman in an Iron Maiden shirt? Thanks for a honest take of brilliance!

So, did you notice even during the first few notes there was always a contrarian note that either was hit too hard, held too long, slightly off key or slightly not exact? Yea, that was chaos always being present.
@michaelgoyettemusic13 күн бұрын
This wasn’t my reaction but what I hear is him setting the period to pre piano days where all notes were played loud which is the same period where the Catholic Church believed a diminished interval conjured the devil. It was banned from music by the church…..once Ren established the time period he went into diminished arpeggios which would’ve been heresy in that time. More than chaos…he summoned evil….then he released the valve with a more demure descending diminished arpeggio that wound out and then Good could appear. I’ve broken down the music on my own and with a jazz trumpeter once if you’re interested.

This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me-much the same as this song resonates. As a person who’s never been able to escape negative self-talk and imposter syndrome, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that already resides within me-was sooo important. It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it. *Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison. You are *stronger* than that voice. You are stronger than you can *possibly* know… until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.

I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. ~~~~~~jAN 01, 202~~rEN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.

I’ve gotten more validation and support from Ren’s work than I have gained from any medication or therapist I’ve had over the decades. He is a voice for the voiceless and for those who suffer from invisible wounds and pain. We are not alone. Sharing this song and video with people who don’t understand what I live through daily really has been a huge help and a weight off my back. I’m glad to hear it’s helped you too. ☮️

Oh this was nice! Thanks Emma! Yes, they only had time for 4 takes in this guys apt basement. The audio is one take I think the 3rd. Video pieces had to be spliced some from this 4 takes. Ren's vulnerability and transparency is very powerful. He speaks for the voiceless. He had a health vlog when he was too sick to perform and that's were his community started though the first band Trick the Fox had some following. He was basically bedridden from 19 to 26, when he was gifted with a stem cell treatment that helped him. Ren says he probably has a thousand songs on his hard drive from those days ann has released some as demos 1 and 2. Sick Boi, the Tales(full) and Chalk Outlines live with Chinchilla. Humble, Ready for You, Hold On, Seven Sins,Fred Again Mashup, Back on 74/Message in a Bottle. So many ...and all excellent. Self taught on guitar, bass, piano and drums. Rapper album Sick Boi was #1 in UK last year. Was starting to release new music when he relapsed. 2 weeks into really intensive treatment now.

There are over 250 videos on his channel @RenMakesMusic, and there isn't a bad song among them. One interesting thing is that he is not stuck to any "genre", and every piece is different from the others. He never gets boring! Only the greats can do that. I have liked and subscribed, and look forward to viewing the other videos on your channel. Keep up the great work! P.S. They were able to get through just four takes that day. When they were discovered in the basement the management gave them a half an hour to wrap things up, and when they left Ren believed that they hadn't gotten it. Luckily, it turned out that they actually HAD gotten it. They chose the best take, and it is a masterpiece.

I don’t know why this song moves me so much still, I listened to it before more than once. Ah dear

The things that get me about this video/song that I haven't seen others react to is the incredible fragility of "Bad Ren". He is genuinely hurt that good Ren is boxing him out. His first "speech" shows real weakness. Then, the way that Ren sings "friend" doesn't fit at all with the rest of the darkness of his spiral into chaos. I wonder if the real Ren would agree that understanding this fearful, needy, and hurt part of the dark side is how to learn how to live in the dance. The pain in the way he sings "friend" gets me almost as much as the other, more obvious gotcha moments. The other thing is the simple fact that we obviously see that this song is played and sung by ONE person. There is no good Ren, bad Ren. It's all just Ren. It reminds me of Fight Club. We are all a part of the crowd that is completely transfixed by watching a man fight himself - not because it is crazy, but because we get it.

The way he sings “friend” gets me also. I believe Ren never does anything that isn’t 100% intentional. I’ve known him since the ME/CFS Facebook groups when he was in so much pain and searching for hope and answers. He had a lot of time trapped in bed with his pain to come to terms with the reality that the more you struggle against your chronic illnesses and pain, the less likely you are to get out of the trap. That is Acceptance. Acceptance is deeply important to thriving. Ren mentions “Acceptance” of his own illness and pain in many other lyrics and in the 8 Life Chapters where he sits and talks about the path of his life and his illness and healing journey. I’m so glad he did those videos to control his person life story. It’s easy for people to fill in blanks and create their own stories and narratives about artists. Each Chapter is about 10 mins long, Ren chokes up many times as he relives each stage of his life. It’s difficult for this GrannyRenegade to watch him push through and continue to speak about his struggles and his grief, but that’s so Ren. He is forthright, vulnerable, and open about his emotions and his struggles. That’s why the folks who have invisible illnesses and MH issues connect deeply to his messages and are so protective of Ren. The Chapters are posted on his YT channel “RenMakesStuff” You likely know all of this because your post touched my heart. I’m adding it to the comment in hopes that others may dig deeper. It’s obvious that you hear and understand everything that Ren is trying to tell us with this Masterpiece. I have seen so many reactions to Hi Ren and to all of Ren’s music. (Personal Top Shelf favs are Seven Sins, Hold On, Patience, Sick Boi, Troubles and his live music with Chinchilla and Sam Thompkins) This is the first time I’ve watched a Ren reactor and seen so many snarky comments about “what’s the big deal, it’s just musical theater.” Yes, I’m based in the US and know that there are a lot of people here who could seriously upgrade their character and integrity if they were to be more like Ren. I hear those dismissive comments being more from a person who is out of touch with their inner self, or is somewhat envious. I ignored their comments. I am after all, old. I hated rap & hip hop until finding Ren. Most of it was redundant beat loops, violent lyrics and no musicality. Yes, one or two of the negative comments were useful. The hum in the background that drove my hyper aware PTSD brain nuts is apparently a Roomba. Who knew? I did manage to block it out as I was interested in hearing Emma’s insights. Thanks for bringing up the more nuanced meaning and message that Hi Ren brings to the world. I hope Ren rebounds quickly. The coinfection is bad enough to deal with. The cocktail of antibiotics we had decades ago did the job, but the side bonuses were horrible. Ren is aware of the microbiome and his docs will be on top of that. I was worried he was headed for an autoimmune flare after the Kujo mess and I could see signs of it at the Sky Arts Awards. All in all, he will have a complex treatment and hopefully he can find acceptance again and allow himself to be less frustrated and get the rest and care he needs. Sorry for running on, I’m worried. Music is life to me, and I know it is for Ren. He is made of music. His talent is unlike anyone I’ve heard in decades. We are so fortunate. 🐇☮️❤️

Dante’s inferno, devil’s interval, our little trip to the 5th circle of Hell. Your observation, Emma, of the fact that he’s using a nylon stringed guitar and its impact is far more intense than if it were an electric guitar is so spot on. No one has ever commented on that before. I agree. I’m an old lover of rock, hard rock, heavy metal and folk. Ren’s intensity playing “the conflict” gives me goosebumps. Ren never does anything incidental with his music, lyrics or performance. He’s got ADHD and a major perfectionist. I love his creativity and unique style. Yes, he’s a completely independent artist. He’s driven, self taught and an introvert who blossomed through busking. He does an incredible live busking song “Blind Eyed” with Sam Tompkins that’s epic. Try listening and reacting to his live performance videos with Chinchilla (How to Be Me, Chalk Outlines) Ren’s Money Game I, II, III … Mackay, For Joe, Su!c!de. Then go way back for Hold On, Patience, Power, Everybody Drops and keep it rolling. That’s just a few suggestions. I left out the Tales or Jenny and Screech and Violet’s Tale because so many other commenters requested that you do them next. There are so many layers to Ren! yes. Yes. Yes! Hi Ren is such an important piece of music and art. The message is timeless and relatable, it resonates with so many people. That’s also why the Renegade community is international, diverse, supportive and welcoming. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. 🕳️ 🐇💛✨

When Ren was hospitalized with Lyme, he was predominantly bed-ridden. The need for his lyric "all part of his plan that I stand on my own two feet" while rising from the chair was his proclamation of triumph over his disease.

Pretty much all I watch are reactors and so I've seen them all. It's so refreshing to have someone down to earth who doesn't appear to be faking their reactions for views so I would predict your channel doing very well if you keep that in check. As you seem like a nice person, I'm going to give you a few very specific tracks/singles on KZbin that are well known to blow your channel up and make you a lot of money. I've not yet worked my way through all your videos yet (which I'm just about to do) so apologies if you have already done some of them. Most importantly, none of these will work unless it is your first reaction alongside Emma as well, because it's that combination which will be integral to all of the contributing factors for the algorithm to present you to even more viewers. So, from a high artistic value perspective, anything else from Ren but definitely glad you have done the spellbinding, 'Hi Ren.' Now going up level but this time, from a high music & video production value, anything from Falling In Reverse from 'Drugs' onwards is in a brand new incomparable tier of its own and in particular, the best ones from a video production prospective are 'Ronald', 'Watch The World Burn' and 'Prequel' as those videos ontop of very interesting music, tipped them over into greatness. Also, from an arrangement perspective, be sure to then do their beautiful 'The Drug In Me Is You Reimagined,' then 'I'm Not a Vampire Revamped' and then 'Last Resort Reimagined,' then any/all the other few from 'Drugs' onwards, especially 'Popular Monster' and 'Zombified.' (Like Ren, the frontman Ronnie even loves reactors and so also reacts to them reacting to him, which can be fun from that inception angle. I think he'd really like you so maybe someone will suggest you to him at some point.) Now up a level again but this time from a high singing skills value, a super special one would be 'Creep - Vintage Postmodern Jukebox Radiohead Cover ft. Haley Reinhart.' This is my most watched video/listened to single of all time and I have therefore seen it many many many hundreds of times over the nearly decade since it was released. As a self proclaimed music aficionado over the many many decades I have roamed this earth, I am confident in saying that this is the finest piece of singing ever recorded to video. Your perception of music will never be the same afterwards so don't ruin it for yourself or your viewers by foolishly previewing any of it beforehand. Beyond that cover of 'Creep' being my highest rated vocal performance to date, my highest rated original song for decades is actually a very recent one by Bruno Mars called Die With a Smile. Another one not to be missed so again, make sure you don't ruin it for yourself by ensuring you do not have a look before recording the reaction. Finally to the pinnacle and from a highly evolved human perspective, a true one off for likely many hundreds of years, Harry Mack. This might not suit your channel but if you compare the two best people in the world at any other discipline, whether that's tennis or car racing or cooking and everything in between, the two best people are always very close in abilities. This is not true in freestyle rap. The greatest freestyle rapper to ever live, Harry Mack, is many many many magnitudes greater than anyone that has done it before or who is likely to do it again in the next century or few. It is a truly remarkable feat of human evolution and so linguistically advanced, it sends tingles down one's spine. I have run an in depth scoring algorithm since he exploded back on the scene following my discovery of him back from his Venice Beach fame, this time with series called Guerrilla Bars, which I luckily picked up on the first one with before he introduced Omegle Bars too. There are typically 3 or 4 different freestyles per video. You'd be best starting with Omegle Bars 52(first two,) 45(first two,) 42(first one,) 18(last one,) 76(first one,) 86(second one,) 96(second one,) 50(second one,) 93(second one,) ... and then any of the others, especially the more recent ones, and don't forget Guerrilla Bars 25(first & last one.) Finally, just some general tips for reactors that were the result of a poll amongst several sizable communities, hence, some may not apply to you: - Remember to not even have a tiny peak at any videos first before recording the reaction as it is impossible to hide that fact no matter how good a reactor thinks they are. - Ensure the video being reacted to occupies at least two thirds of the screen at all times. - Push the mouse cursor to the far right of the screen in the middle (or left depending on if your output is mirrored) and permantly leave it there off-screen so the seek bar is never showing. - Use the 'K' key on the keyboard to pause/play and the 'J' key to skip back 10 seconds. - Before the video begins, press the 'C' key on the keyboard to deactivate the closed captions as no one wants to see words if it's already in their native language. - Even if a reactor believes they're good at acting, viewers can always tell when a fake reaction face is pulled so it's better just to pretend you are not making a video. - Unless a reactor happens to be an expert in a particular related field such as being an esteemed vocal coach, viewers generally are not interested in much commentary at all as are primarily viewing just to witness if any natural facial expressions, etc. occur. Uncontrollable verbal outbursts of admiration are also accepted. (Never forget, many will unsubscribe if the reactions are ever fake.) - Remember, some or all of those suggestions above may not directly apply to you but might be helpful to keep in the back of the mind. Enjoy the channel blowing up (assuming you don't have a peek at any of the above first.) All the best and greetings from South West England (near to where Ren went to university).

I’ve reacted to FIR and the videos were all demonetized due to a claim by the publisher….disputes were rejected….while I don’t mind doing some things just for the community aspect, I like paying my guests to appear… musicians get asked to do stuff for “exposure” all the time and I don’t want to be another one. So unless that has changed, FIR isn’t ideal. I also introduced Emma to Harry Mack and that was a big hit as well. We are currently focusing on Harry and Ren because she only has time for one video a week…..I will be booking other musical guests as well and I also do some vids on my own. Thanks for the breakdown…I’ll definitely keep it in mind.

Like many RENegades here we love to watch others fall in love with this very special person. With Emma being a song writing coach the obvious choice is to say "the tale of Jenny and Screech" (trilogy) due to the incredible story telling aspect but I would highly recommend "Sick Boi" just to get more of his story as well as diverse ability. Great reaction 👏 loved it. Welcome to the Ren🐇 🕳️ and the wonderful group of people called RENegades, I am sure you will find them to be helpful and supportive.

67 years old. Came across this video around a year ago and binge watched, followed by binge watching everything I could find by Ren - solo, collabs and with The Big Push. I've lived through some great times, musically, but this is different. In my view one of the two most important artists of this generation. The other, Jacob Collier! (check his live rendition of Little Blue, in an empty church with a choir... in a very different way it reaches deep into your soul!) I gather Ren's health has again had a turn for the worse. Great shame. Of course, his experiences have fed into the power of his music and lyrics, but the young man really deserves some luck with his health. Get well soon, Ren. We all need you!
