Of course Microsoft doesn’t own the word Windows. So there’s nothing stopping me from naming a cereal brand Windows, and that doesn’t infringe Microsoft’s trademark rights. But what this Windows 12 company is doing would run afoul of trademark law. You can’t name your competing operating system Windows 12 and expect Microsoft to do nothing about it. Chances are that they can’t find the individual behind the company, so they can’t take legal action against them. In the uk If you’re a sole trader you do not need to register with Companies House. Only those who want to operate as a limited company are required to register. If you set up a limited company, you will still need to register with HMRC as a company director for self-assessment though.

Well, the very first saying at the start is incorrect, since versions of „Windows Server 2012+“ (Which are based on „Windows 8, 8.1, 10, 11“) do support booting from ReFS, and recent „Windows 11 builds“ also support booting from ReFS, though it is a different version, which are not readable between themselfs (ReFS 3.9 can't read 3.10 and so on).

The installer is Ubiquity, Ubuntu’s installer GRUB is Linux Lite Welcome screen is Manjaro Desktop is just plain old LXQt with some modifications

Linux Lite is actually a very good distro for new Linux users (kind of in same ball park as Linux Mint) and runs very good on older hardware where Windows would struggle on. This make me sad because some criminals take profit for the good work made of the Linux Lite team.

So in the UK, there are 2 types of basic Company/Business in legal terms, there are others for specific things but, you can be a sole-trader as a company in the UK, and you will not appear on Companies house, only if your an incorporated (Limited Liability Company or Partnership, Charity stuff like that) a sole-trader and still a company. However, does not change this being a scam just that you can't use companies house unless they say they have a company registration number or are registered in the UK, It's also a legal requirement that any registered company must present their company registration information on their or any website operating for the registered company.

It's interesting to note how the maker of Windows 12 seems to use "patent", "copyright", and "trademark" interchangeably, when the concepts very much are not. Given that they seem to really care about this project, I think it would behoove them to research these concepts, and perhaps contact legal counsel, assuming that they're not just a weirdly dedicated grifter.
