Edit: wow you all really took this and ran with it. Windows 10 was named as if it was going to be the last version of Windows, and the tech press thought it as well, and it’s likely that you thought it was the last version of Windows until 3 weeks ago. Original: I’m pretty sure they named it “Windows 10” because of marketing. Imagine if the last version of Windows was “Windows 9”.... that’s just so incomplete. Windows 10 makes it feel complete and truly the last version

Continuum, man that word summoned old dark memories of WP. I was a staunch user of WP, ran with it until the very end. Started with WP7 with a Lumia 610. Got sidelined when it couldn't upgrade to WP8 and stuck at WP 7.8. Alright then, got a Lumia 925 (which was cutting edge at that time). Promised Windows 10 Mobile along with all the great features. Got thrown off the bus again (granted, technical issues, but still). Started to lose faith, so picked a 640XL instead of a flagship 950. Then nothing, with this and that, the whole ordeal feels like beta software througj and through. Jumped to Android. I like WP but man it was troubled and full of broken promises.

It's so true, even the software in Windows 10 Phone is garbage. Sometime, the phone vibrates without stopping when a key is pressed, I need to pull the battery to restart the phone to solve the issue. The Edge browser is garbage too, it constantly refreshes the page without any reason. The initial input editing is terrible but improved after a few upgrades. It s sad that we will love windows phone.
@KyleDavis328
@KyleDavis328 4 жыл бұрын
I loved my 925. I actually had Windows 10 Mobile on it, as it was available for the insider program. I enrolled after Windows 10 Mobile was in public release, upgraded to the slow ring, then backed off into the release (basically the non-insider) ring. Fun times, Cortana was always better in 'beta' on Windows Phone 8.1 than it ever was on Windows 10 (mobile or desktop). Such a shame, especially because its competitors at the time were jokes, the Google Assistant couldn't do anything but searches and basic reminders/alarms and Siri couldn't understand a word you said. As much as I loved my Windows-only ecosystem, I'm glad I was forced to make the jump to Android, and the Google Assistant actually does stuff now (although I still miss people-based reminders).

I think the color changing setup screen is a very smart idea. The progress is an unknown. But nobody likes staring at one of those progress bars that goes back and forth. The color changing gives you something to know it is not frozen without drawing all of your attention to one widget, like staring at a clock all day.

I loved 10 back in 2015, but I feel the UI and general upkeep from Microsoft has really gone downhill over time and at this point it’s so annoyingly inconsistent that I have just bought a Mac! 10 was never good. It was always unstable, inconstant, clunky, and just ugly. Its basically just a minor backpedaling of the shit show that was Windows 8 but is still worse than Win 7 (which wasn't exactly good but was at least consistent and stable). If i could i would be using Linux full time by now however the software ecosystem simply isnt there yet and i still need Windows for work and MUH GAMEZ. I cant even just use Win 7 anymore because it doesn't work on new hardware and gets no security updates. I feel like Microsoft is holding me hostage.

11:30 I really thought it was because of the Ninth Symphony curse, that every composer died after releasing their Ninth Symphony. It's a very well known "belief" amongst musicians and, since IT folks jokingly love their technological hocus pocus ("the printer smells fear!"), I thought for the longest time it made the most sense. Though I'm still happy it's because 7 ate 9, it's so silly I love it.

Something interesting: As many of you may know, Microsoft bought Mojang Studios, the company behind Minecraft, in 2014. Windows 10/8 was an expansion upon unification between mobile, pc and console. A few years later, Mojang released a new version of Minecraft, dubbed "Bedrock Edition", which was a unification between mobile, console, and the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft. I guess Microsoft wants to unify devices as much as possible, it's interesting how they did the same thing with one of their properties. It's very much possible that those events are not related, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

5:58 By eliminating Windows 10 phones, the development of Windows 10 for computers has significantly slowed down :-( EDIT: Windows 10 was made to grow evenly with all devices and it was supposed to look the same on each one. Microsoft phones, although they were the subject of criticism and had a small market share, were just playing an important role in the whole Windows 10 and 8 ecosystem. Phones like these are now the most developing devices in the world, they bring new and amazing features (even those we didn't know about some time ago). It's these things that have brought new Lumias and developed the whole Windows to create a coherent ecosystem. By eliminating the unprofitable BUT the most developed mobile devices department, Microsoft has condemned itself to technological backwardness. Windows phones had a huge impact on Windows development. Excuse me, where did the live tiles and Metro interface begin? To sum up, "Universal Windows Platform" has been completely destroyed. Windows phones, although they were not popular, had an important function in the whole Windows ecosystem.

"To sum up, "Universal Windows Platform" has been completely destroyed. " Why do Windows 10x and other WindowsCore OS based systems prioritise UWP over Win32 then? "By eliminating the unprofitable BUT the most developed mobile devices department, Microsoft has condemned itself to technological backwardness." Again, Windows 10/Windows Core OS somehow exist and Windows 10 will benefit a lot from this since some of the key features will be ported to it. However, Windows 10 doesn't need to get new features just for sake of getting new features unless they bring improvements. It's already pretty mature and Microsoft must improve on those which still need to be polished.

Because Mac has more free apps and is a POSIX (this made MacOS able to install tar files and Homebrew simplifies the process) and Linux has a large community of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software). I've moved my remaining Win8 laptops to Ubuntu, all my future laptops will be Macs, and when Linux's Proton gaming compatibility layer reaches 80% compatibility with my game collection I'll move my gaming PC (my only Windows 10 PC and last remaining Windows PC in general) to Linux Mint.

@Nguyen Thanh Viet imagine calling users of an open-source OS rich with community development/support and under a 1.2% install base fanboys. What a shit take I mean, I love Apple now, but I’m not about to praise them like they’re a god when I like something of theirs, or defend them when they get criticized - they’re a TRILLION-dollar corporation. Saying how great Apple stuff is would make me an Apple fanboy. Lastly, what’s your problem with Linux anyways? Linux distros aren’t like Microsoft and Apple who force you to deal with Windows and MacOS looking the way *they* want. For me, as a burned former Windows fan, I’d would have loved to be on Windows 7 for the rest of my life, but Microsoft stopped giving it security updates in January 2020. Linux, on the other hand, allows me to still have the Windows 95/98 look, XP Luna look, or Vista/7 Aero look, all while remaining up to date with current versions of programs/games in 2021. The only kind of Linux fanboy I know is Arch Linux users because of how on-their-own they are with that distro and basically have to rely on weird code that’s non-standard to other Linux distros for almost everything they want to do, leading them to brag about themselves using Arch to every other Linux user. But for all the other distros, I’ve never seen a Linux fanboy; as Linux users simply don’t harass and belittle other people like I see Windows fanboys doing on a daily basis.

I'm honestly saddened that 10 is the last OS for Windows. No more sitting there, pondering "oh man, I wonder what the next OS is gonna look like, how's it gonna feel." No more of the simple joy of grabbing a physical copy, installing it on your computer, and patiently waiting for the little download bar to finish it's journey. To then be met with a new chime, welcoming you into your new (and hopefully) improved computer. *Sigh* feelsbadman

As for updating, before 2004 update you had to eventually install any update while shutting down or restarting, now you can do that like it had been before Windows 10 ( you can update or nor). Then after a while, once the builds had become more stable, I replaced my main OS with it and even though that could have been a stupid move, it worked out in the end.

Great video! I only recently came across your channel and am now binge watching, lol. I love the additional background information and commentary as it provides so much additional context than saying "ok yeah so here is this build.... let me poke around... ok now on to the next build.." Overall I am a fan of Windows 10. I've been using Windows since 3.1 and it is amazing how much more stable the platform is these days. I mean it is not unheard of now to have your computer on 24/7 for over a month. That was definitely not anything that happened with some of the older versions of Windows, at least that was not the norm. Misbehaving applications and memory leaks were just something you lived with. Heck, back in the Win95 and 98 days, I think it was pretty common for people to just nuke and pave the OS at least once a year if not more often.

Not like shitty 10 where it's just a jumbled mess of horrendously large Tablet UI components (desktops) or horrendously small Desktop UI components (tablets). Just split the UI into one like 7 for desktops and one like Windows 10 Tablet mode for tablets. For 2 in 1s there should just be some mode that can toggle it.

Since Windows 11 was released, there are possible meanings I can think of for the "last version of Windows" statement: 1. Windows 10 was intended to stay the last version (literally), but the plan changed. It's possible, especially due to the 1809 data deletion fiasco or the COVID-19 pandemic that affected sales, so they decided to release Windows 11. 2. Windows 10 is the last version before the new requirements such as TPM 2.0, which most PCs lack, but this one is only artificially blocked at setup. 3. Windows 10 is the last real new version, 11 is just a feature update. 4. Windows 10 is the last version where the kernel version is incremented and it remains at 10.0.

I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of Windows 10. One issue I have is that they had all the power they needed to make Windows Aero look even better, but they threw it out the window (if you'll excuse the pun) for a boxy and boring-looking style. Another issue I have is that the "minimalistic" style of Windows 10 is a little too minimalistic. Android phones do better with the solid colours because the style is more fluid and dynamic, with icons changing and contorting, but Windows 10 icons have little movement to them.
