we all missed xp. even if in a greater context it was garbage. But in the early 2000s there was a lot of development in computing, and nobody knew in which direction it goes. considering this it did verry good overall of beeing flexible. right know windows is terrible if you think of it, but we are all used to it. the only modern os is mac. Windows XP makes me feel comfortable every time I boot it up on my retro gaming PC. The same applies but to a lesser extent with 95 and 2000. Such a great era.
@ifzwischendurch4 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way. 95 and 2000 impress with their simplicity and clarity. Everything looks like it is from one piece. But Windows XP triggers much stronger emotions. And for a good reason. The entire user experience is geared towards friendliness and joy. The colors, the icons, the images, the sounds, even the advertising. You could tell that there was appreciation in it. All the system sounds, for example, were played by an real orchestra. Everything looks rounded and soft. Windows XP was a piece of art. The first time you switched it on, you had the feeling that you were being welcomed with open arms. I can still remember it well. A lot has changed since then. Windows 10 has some good approaches, but it's soulless. It's like a constant construction site and not a finished product.

I'm using XP right now... I've used all post-XP versions from Vista to 10 in a daily basis and, personally, in no one of them i feel so comfortable as i'm with XP; it just gets the work done, is stable and a lot less bloated than the newer versions and i don't have to fight with it to work correctly, like i've had to do with Vista/7/8/10. Unfortunately developers are moving towards newer environments and there's less software for XP, and given that every time fewer and more modern browsers are giving support to it, seems that the time to move on is coming. Nice touch with the remix from the XP's Welcome Music at the ending... :)

I wonder if the UI is a big factor in what defines a comfortable experience? Because while the interfaces for Vista+ are either very fancy or very flat, XP's looks more modest and inviting in comparison. XP is definitely far leaner than Vista+, although I'd politely disagree with it being less difficult to use. As for moving on from older software, it's a sad parting, but newer does mean more secure, and I'd say that's the primary reason MS wants people to upgrade, despite any disadvantages with the features and whatnot.

Nice history, although, a more extensive version would be to explain more history on NT, 3.0, 3.51, and 4.0. Windows XP is still good today with VirtualBox. Go to ERPMAN's pages to get updates. Install SP 3 and update the installer. Update the IE to Explorer 8. Then it will still do Automatic Updates. There will be one that is 129 updates, and then you will be fairly complete. I use Panda Dome Free Antivirus for protection, although, I use either Lubuntu or ZorinOS if I want to go on the Internet with those machines. The advantage of XP is that one can use the older Windows programs, like Office 97-2007, (I use 2007), on the computer. Another huge advantage is that Windows XP just screams with 750 MB of RAM, whereas Vista and above really needs over 2 GB or RAM to have a nice experience.

I kind of like the watercolor theme. On devian art someone ported it so you can use it on XP.

First time I've watched one of your videos. And really enjoyed it. Very well designed. And flows well! I used to skip many of your videos as I was left looking at the same screen for ages while you talk. Or it just didn't flow very well. The work you put into this shows.

Super interesting video!! :) it was cool to see how things took shape. XP brings us all back warm fuzzy memories. Crazy to think one day people will say the same about windows 10 as we know it today

Windows XP will NEVER die! I use it and enjoy it in a virtual machine every day. It is the most iconic OS Microsoft has ever released. XP was so popular back in the day (and rightfully so), that Microsoft had to support it for literally 12.5 years (or 17.5 years for ESU), which is a significantly longer lifespan than any other OS ever released. XP was the sole version of Windows to include ONLY improvements compared to its predecessors, in every single aspect -- stability, security, performance, appearance, interface, features, customizabilty, and more. Unlike any other version of Windows, XP did not remove any useful features and gave you complete and total freedom to customize the look and feel of your PC without having to rely on some hacks or third-party tools. Not to mention its unique and iconic sounds, as well as its default desktop background, which is by far the most calming and beautiful among all Windows versions. It actually became the most recognizable picture in the world, thanks to XP's huge popularity and people's understandable refusal to upgrade for so many years. For these reasons (and many more), XP will always have a special place in the hearts of so many people. Even today, 22.5 years after release and a full DECADE after support ended, XP is still used on approximately 9 million PCs around the world. It is insane, but not really surprising given how perfect this OS is!

Im using my Windows XP Professional on a Win Vista Capable Computer to view this video. Windows XP is really great if somebody never used it yet. I would recommended to try it on a Virtual Machine,
