"A Conspiracy of Hope was a short tour of six benefit concerts on behalf of Amnesty International that took place in the United States during June 1986. The purpose of the tour was not to raise funds but rather to increase awareness of human rights and of Amnesty's work on its 25th anniversary. The shows were headlined by U2, Sting and Bryan Adams and also featured Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Joan Baez, and The Neville Brothers. The last three shows featured a reunion of The Police. At a press conferences in each city, at related media events, and through their music at the concerts themselves, the artists engaged with the public on themes of human rights and human dignity. The six concerts were the first of what subsequently became known collectively as the Human Rights Concerts - a series of music events and tours staged by Amnesty International USA between 1986-1998."
"Peter Brian Gabriel (born 13 February 1950) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and activist. He rose to fame as the original lead singer of the progressive rock band Genesis.[1]

In 1986, he started what has become a longstanding association with Amnesty International, becoming a pioneering participant in all 28 of Amnesty's Human rights concerts - a series of music events and tours staged by the US Section of Amnesty International between 1986-1998. He performed during the six-concert A Conspiracy of Hope US tour in June 1986; the twenty-concert Human Rights Now! world tour in 1988; the Chile: Embrace of Hope Concert in 1990 and at The Paris Concert For Amnesty International in 1998. He also performed in Amnesty's Secret Policeman's Ball benefit shows in collaboration with other artists and friends such as Lou Reed, David Gilmour and Youssou N'Dour; Gabriel closed those concerts performing his anti-apartheid anthem "Biko".[96] He spoke of his support for Amnesty on NBC's Today Show in 1986.[97]"

I too was at that concert with my girlfriend and now wife. Peter walks off the stage and the entire crowding keeps the chorus going. Most spiritual moment of my life. I will never forget that day. May the spirit of Biko live on!

I saw him last night in Dallas. He did a double encore. First In Your Eyes, then Biko, and the same thing happened. It was fabulous.

Incredible concert . I was lucky to be on it. I'm 62 now and I still listen to it. That was 37 years ago. Time flies fast.

"Amnesty International has a great importance for Peter Gabriel in his life", told me Peter Gabriel. He did a lot of concerts all over the world with other great artists like Sting, Bruce Springsteen or David Gilmour to the Human Rights. Now, Peter Gabriel is finishing his new album.

I was at this show. My mom threw my tickets I. The garbage cause she saw Bill Graham on tickets thinking it was the evangelist. I somehow convinced the box office this happened. I had the copy of money order used to buy tickets. Again not sure I made it happen but brother and I got in to this great show!!!! No Pete Townsend which was a bummer.

I attended This Amazing Concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. I also attended Live Aid in 1985, at RFK stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!

Peter Gabriel was not a mainstream artist. I mean I don't think any teenagers at the time were into his music at all.
