Rules of thumb I picked up from this video: 1. Don't shoot on a well made, perfect mattress 2. Don't shoot a photo so tilted it doesn't make sense if it's supposed to be viewed vertically or horizontally 3. Don't have the subject just looking at somewhere. Have them look at somewhere in some certain way 4. Watch out for postures or placement of hands that might not make sense. 5. Don't unintentionally crop out limbs from photo. 6. Be wary about having a subject raise their eyebrows. 7. Don't shoot too wide of an angle too close! 8. Choose appropriate props for the shoot

I love the self awareness haha. Glad to see even the pros make "mistakes" I was bothered by the "hidden hands" at @2:16 I try to keep that out of my photos, yet when someone else does it, some how its okay. I always have trouble with beds/couches in terms of angles and cutting off distracting background areas or limbs. Thank you for this

Michael, I can’t believe you have got me to the pint where I can identity good boudoir practices when I look at photos on Behance. I just posted this critique: “I see all the classic posing elements of good boudoir photography here Alexandre: pointed toes, back arched by pushing the model’s backside outwards with shoulders straight, hands looking nice and natural gently touching her hair or skin as if in motion, purposeful & interesting gazes by the model and a bed that looks like it has just been enjoyed. Well done!” I sound like an expert! Because of your tips...

Im astonished by your work. I got into photography this year and since the beginning i had this clear vision of what my business\brand would look like in the future - with an empashys on the "experience" and self empowerment. You kinda represent what i am trying to achieve, which is really cool! So far i focused on portraits (mastering the basics first); however, i am now trying some new stuff out like video teasers for my shoots and am also planning my first boudoirs (people are really into boudoir, i had no idea | Also the reason why i found your channel). If i hadnt spent my money on gear, i would most likely buy one of your teaching programs! For what i saw, i could easly leverage my social media following and sky rock my bookings. Just discovered this video while looking for photography videos. Just a comment on the first 3 "wrongs" of taking photos in this video. None of those are "wrong". Just like anything it is subjective. I have taken photos like those claiming to be wrong, and have turned out to be some of the better of the photos. But I guess this is just a simple guidelines video.
@MichaelSasser5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I do believe a lot of photography is subjective, and I believe if you are purposeful about your choices, then it becomes subjective art. For instance. If there is trash in the background of your photo and you didn't notice it, it might be a mistake, if the purpose was to have trash in the background, then it was a subjective choice. I think a few of these happen because photographers don't know they have the choice to do it differently yet. I hope that makes sense!
@Ballistichydrant6 жыл бұрын

Hi Michael, I just found you channel and am a relative newbie to this. I enjoyed the video, but am not to sure how the tilted angles photos were "bad". What advice would you give to someone looking to shoot boudoir but finding it difficult to find a location. I live in the UK in a small town and the main problem I have is hotels, b&b's turning me away and I don't want to shoot in the client's home as it can lead to problems with unsightly decor and some people are messy. My own home is too small and cluttered plus many people in my town don't trust photographers that don't have some kind of "place to go". Any ideas?
@MichaelSasser5 жыл бұрын
What do you mean Hotels and B&Bs are turning you away? You're asking to shoot per hour and they are saying no? One option is to book the client and say it will definitely take place at a hotel. After they sign the contract and pay their deposit, you have the money to rent that hotel room the whole afternoon and morning. You can tell them that shooting in their home is better because it will be more personal to them. And then tell them on three different occasions that their place needs to be close to spotless for the photoshoot. People will do what you tell them, you just have to guide them!
