Always nice to see you crit nice work. You can tell people tried their best. I really like you suggestions and, even though you can only look at one photo, I wonder if some of the problems you saw will go away in other shots from the shoot.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos and teaching style. My sister asked me to help her take some boudoir photos for her and its been almost a decade since I did anything like that professionally. Its nice seeing some of the tips and tricks you use to help refresh my memory. And the funny side notes make me laugh. Keeping it real. Much thanks!

Hi Michael, this image for the first critique was pretty tough as there are two colour temperatures in play, her leg is "warm" and her body is "cool" perhaps using a mask to adjust the color temp a bit? I know that you are a natural light photographer, and your work is exquisite but this studio guy would use a speedlite at 25% fill with a CTO gel. Hey, that's a great tip about relaxing the eyebrows. These are really helpful. Kudos!

My take away: Reinforcing the effectiveness of soft hands, mouth breathing, length, and triangles Don’t be afraid to add more contrast. I tend to bring my images just to the point of realistic exposure, but adding that contrast really helps. I can see why you kept doing it Oh and I’m now realizing why dark sheets/blankets are nice!

lol, you're not wrong. There are many ways to adjust exposure. Curves are just the easiest with the most control for exposure.

@MichaelSasser I actually use curves to adjust light and color in Lightroom! I am really enjoying your content for tips and pointers. I especially enjoy your critique and interview videos! Lots of great content that helps other photographers learn new techniques they can apply to their work. Thank you for creating content with other photographers in mind.

Quick suggestion after adding the curves layer - hold down Option on the 'Auto' button & a box will pop up. Click on 'Enhance Monochromatic Contrast' and it'll adjust the individual RGB curves without clipping the shadows or highlights. I always feel that this is a bit too much contrast, so with the mask selected on the curves layer I then go to Image>Apply Image to mask out the shadows a bit (it makes a B&W image as a mask). Btw, the options on the 'Apply Image' box should be Layer: Merged and Blending: Multiply.

The getting out of the mirror was something that caught my eye, cause I did a few experiments where I purposely stayed in the frame of the shot. Wanted to create kind of a voyeur feel

I've noticed a common editing style lately incorporates less contrast in the final edit. Seems to be a trend. I tend to prefer contrast, but I have seen some incredible work that was less contrasty in style. Your thoughts?
@MichaelSasser
@MichaelSasser Жыл бұрын
Just like anything. I think if it is done really well, then amazing. But if not it just looks like that person didn’t know how to edit properly and adding some contrast can really improve it.
