The magic was simply beautiful on camera & even though I wasn’t there in person with you I felt the magic come through my screen. Gorgeous! I so value the fact that you are constantly reading and studying your craft & encouraging others to do the same. If you are constantly studying & learning just imagine what beautiful ideas you can continue to create because your mind is being challenged. I don’t know what a Gooner is (lol) but I sure do know what beautiful magic looks like! Thanks for the beautiful magic.

Hi Mike im not a professional magician, it has always been a hobby. When i did table hopping performances i had around 25 to 30 different either tricks or routines in my little case. Sponge balls, rope, coins, Thumb tip etc. That way, when i moved to the next table i could show a different performance to the previous one. I agree with you, you cant just do 6 tricks. Some tricks need a table, and some don't, especially when you have to walk around. You need change things to match the situation. Last night at a family gathering, all i had was a deck and card to wallet. I was really asked there to do a mentoring session for the friends son as he has shown an intrest in magic. Just teaching him how to hold and sqaure up the deck, then how to shuffle was i felt really rewarding. I enjoyed it more than the performing. Thanks Mike.👍

Fantastic video, Mike with a interesting message. If we want to evolve in magic we should always remain a student of the craft. And that's one of the things I like in your attitude towards magic, you remain a student of the craft despite the years you are into magic but you also Inspire others (me, for example) to remain students of magic. Thanks for that! 🙏

Again, I'm not a magician. Never intended to be as a kid in the 80s just had an on/off interest in magic. Most times I admit, it was just wanting to know how something was done. Attempting basics for family I struggled with, especially "Do it again. Let me touch the prop" which I knew would give it away. I mostly kept to myself as a kid but in the back of my mind, the idea of magic was an escape. I may have had the odd book from the library back then, but struggled to understand them. But, again, the thought of magic, the feeling it would give watching magicians was always nice. A place to disappear into, a place that was nice, a place that was magical. Why am I saying this? Because I'm not a professional BUT If anyone is learning it, please listen to Michael. The way Michael talks about magic gives me that warm feeling back again. I never want to become a professional, I never really practice, but just listening to him talk about the old masters, the history of magic, its the way I've always thought magicians were. Its just.....magical.

I now have The Magic Book by Harry Lorayne. It amazes me more that you learnt all these tricks from reading. I'm not a practicing magician, just always had a small interest. Got the book from World of Books. But it amazes me how complicated it can get. Even Harry says some of the routines, even the controlled shuffles are easy to do but difficult to explain.

Hello Michael, I hope you and your mom are well. This is another compelling conversation for working magicians. Specifically, venue. This definitely resonates with me. It reminded me of an essay in one the "Workers" books by Michael Close regarding venues a magician can perform in and the realization that are few and far between. -I think that this may well be the reason one man shows have become more popular among magicians. (There are no venues for performing Vernon's cups and balls so I'll make one). -I tend to think of the venue as the frame around the performance. -I don't think it is a new problem though and not relegated to the performance of magic alone. - Houdin and Hofinszer both had salons where they performed under conditions of their own choosing. -I think it may be a good problem. I feel it will force magicians to seek more traditional theatrical venues to perform in and by extension compel them to utilize more traditional theatrical components to elevate their performances-Scripting, lighting, music, etc. -Steven Cohen in an interview I recently listened to said that when he was in Japan he performed at bars and clubs in the Ginza district as well as at the Park Hyatt, Tokyo. The reactions he received for his magic when he was performing at the Park Hyatt Tokyo were entirely different in a very positive way even though he was performing the same material in both venues. P.S. Favorite trick from "Cardshark" is "Time and Again"

Pete Mills I totally agree with your point of view Peter. My last show ever was before Christmas 2019. I presented my full one man show at The Mandarin Hotel Knightsbridge for 30 people. I couldn’t have wished for a better setting and context for my self expression. This is who I am. Now you understand why I had the professional context when I turned professional in 1991. When I hit my 50th Birthday, I said good by to professional magic and when back to being a dedicated student. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽

Good afternoon my friend! What an amazing video and conversation! Wow,where do I start?... I am also a fan and follower of Bruce Lee. At one time I came across a lesson he presented on mastery that really made my mind melt and my heart sing. Bruce presented to become a master is to not be a master. To say one is a master is saying this is an end. There is no more to know or accomplish or strive for. Even at his level he considered himself a student. Also to keep yourself open and to allow more to come in and change this not only gives us a deeper connection to our lives and passions it also gives us a deeper connection to the world around us,the universe and even God. Eternity has no end so neither should our studies or our climb to the next levels. I was fortunate to come across Michael and his work at the time I began my devotional path as a student of magic. I started from scratch. I set out on a path seeking out the old books and great teachers. I could go on for days.. Dai Vernon,Ed Marlo ,Michael Ammar,Daryl,Bill Malone...my list is endless. I ordered every book Michael mentions and now we may need a new house or build a room just for my book library... And before I go on too long I have to talk about Jason. I got turned on to Jason by Michael talking about him and I just fell in love with him so fast. My god, beautiful work guys...And to top it off Jason is so freakin funny. He will make a post or comment and I’ll laugh about it for days. His dvd or download is also incredible. It was one my top picks this year and I can not recommend it enough. And he is also a killer musician and yes all the ladies and I think most men love him. My love to you and your mother Your friend and forever student Ricky Blevins

Michael, I absolutely LOVE that you addressed something we don’t often speak of: the gap between formal, close up material and the environment of the working professional.
