You can’t unless you produce every studio recording, and set up all his concert equipment!! Besides, human nature is human nature. Rotary phones are long past gone. Good luck ever finding a pay phone, or a rotary tune tv. You will never know going forward whether an actual person wrote a book, song, movie or tv show script, what with the advent of AI. I had an X-ray of my shoulder a couple weeks ago, and I didn’t see a radiologist, I’ll never know for sure it wasn’t read by AI!! They talked a bit and he wounld up autographing a twenty my husband had on him. A time later he got in a bind and had to spend it. But the memory of meeting him has lasted over 30 years. My husband said he was one of the most humble person he ever met.

I was with a band for a while and being a teenager I made a comment about rock musicians being better... The band members I was playing with were seasoned professionals and they shut me down quick. They were telling me about country guitar players that could play circles around most rock musicians... basically made me eat my words and I started really playing attention to technique rather then music genre and learned a lot from both rock and country musicians. Now it doesn't matter to me what style I'm playing as long as I'm playing for people to enjoy themselves.

Another really cool thing about Hee Haw is so many talented and popular artists would come on the show, occasionally a bunch of them would just want to jam on the show. This was called the Million Dollar Band because that's what it would cost in 70s-80s money to book these artists. The members included Chet Atkins, Boots Randolph, Floyd Cramer, Charlie McCoy, Danny Davis, Jethro Burns, Johnny Gimble, and Hee Haw co-host Roy Clark.

Buck Trent is still alive and was a master musician in his own right. Buck invented the electric banjo that he used for many years giving Porter Wagoner a signature sound. Buck was a lead guitar player who did session work on guitar and banjo for years. Buck and Roy toured together for many years and cut some albums together.

Roy did an episode of The Odd Couple back in the 70s. He played multiple instruments in multiple genre's. His rendition of the Maleguena is unparalleled. It's Awe inspiring. Jack Klugman and Tony Randall were so blown away that they fell out of character. These scenes are on KZbin.

Roy Clark was truly an original. Not only could he make you laugh but he could make you dang near cry as well in his songs . One song in particular that he sang called Yesterday when I was young is such a poignant song about life . Thanks again ✌️

I have immensely enjoyed watching Michael Duffy listening to Roy Clark. The comment on the clothes made me lol. There are still a few ppl here in Appalachia that wear overalls. My family watched Hew Haw every Saturday night. Never missed it. Roy is a legend. As a kid, I really didn't appreciate his musical talents. OMG I don't know how anyone would know of Roy Clark. This guy could do it all. Sing, act, comedy and serious, loved his fans to no end. He has to be one of the best ever on instruments. I watch him and Chet Adkins on guitars and it was wild. Go watch hee haw and see the comedy of 70's, Warning a lot may trigger you so be careful it was a different time no one ment anything bad they just wanted to have fun. I loved some of Jim Stafford’s songs! “Spiders and Snakes”, of course. And “Swamp Witch”. (I think of Hattie as an herbalist/natural medicine practitioner who let the townspeople think she was a witch so they’d leave her alone. Delightfully creepy song!) There were some other good ones too. I don’t remember him having his own show so I guess we never watched it. Either that or my memory ain’t what it used to be.

You really need to watch the movie "Deliverance". And yes, Roy was the best, greatest, the most on anything with strings. He also had a great voice. One of my favorites was "Yesterday, When I Was Young". While you're in a banjo mood, also look up Earl Scruggs "Foggy Mountain Breakdown". Just watching his fingering is amazing!

You should mention Deliverance is not a movie for children or even young teenagers everyone forgets that the movie is really a horrifically ugly movie about Hillbillies who killed in sodomized a guy a very dark movie it just has one banjo playing scene that sounds good I'm not saying it's a bad movie but it's not for everyone especially kids only the music banjo music is good that's all the name Deliverance has nothing to do it doesn't deliver anybody or it isn't religious or spiritual. I tried to warn my parents who are dead now that they should not let their adopted grandchild watch it she was 11 or 12 my mother was a nutcase and she said Crystal can watch anything she wants and my mother was actually pushing the movie on the kid. So I told my mother and father and I thought my father would have enough sense to XNA I said there's a scene where one of the guys is sodomized by a hillbilly it's really gross and it's really ugly and I don't think Crystal should watch it my mother deliberately got the movie for the kid and played it for her. Hours later I came into the living room and my parents were sitting in front of the TV watching the end of the movie they were sitting and stunned silence and Crystal was gone and I asked where Crystal was and my father said she got up and left.

What's even more impressive, and easily missed, is that they actually turned the beat around and got it back again so incredibly effortlessly (towards the end). I kept time with it (I'm a musician) and had to go back and listen to it again because I thought I had messed up! Legendary 👏🏆🥇

Young people today are blessed with technology. I'm 61 and I was a little kid when this played on Hee Haw, which was one of the best shows of all time. It combined amazing country music , with hilarious comedy. Back then there was no way to rewind, let alone record these shows. If you missed it, you missed it. That is why we were glued to the TV when this show came on. If you didn't take care of business, you know, in the library, then you held it. Missing them play something like this was something you didn't do. I only wish more young folks would take the time to watch some of these shows. You wouldn't be missing much, unless you watch some Letterkenny or Shoresy, LOL. Thanks @michaelwduffy for bringing back these memories!

WIKI "Dueling Banjos" is a bluegrass composition by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith. The song was composed in 1954 by Smith recorded in 1955 playing a four-string plectrum banjo and accompanied by five-string bluegrass banjo player Don Reno. The composition's first wide-scale airing was on a 1963 television episode of The Andy Griffith Show called "Briscoe Declares for Aunt Bee", in which it is played by visiting musical family the Darlings (portrayed by The Dillards, a bluegrass group), along with Griffith himself. The song was made famous by the 1972 film Deliverance, which also led to a successful lawsuit by the song's composer, as it was used in the film without Smith's permission.

Roy Clark is also a master of the fiddle and mandolin, and probably a few others. You should do a deeper dive into him. Hee-Haw was a comedy/country music/variety show that he starred in. That's why he and Buck Trent were dressed like farmers.

I never met my Great Grandma, she died a little before I was born, but that's what was said about her, that she could play anything that had some strings on it. I would have LOVED to have met her I once asked what instrument she played best and one person said Mandolin, another said Banjo, another said Fiddle and another said Guitar, then my dad said "basically, if it had strings on it, she could play it and play it well." They said she also played auto harp, dulcimer and zither and "was no slouch" on a piano. That's the thing that was so amazing about Roy Clark, he played EVERYTHING REAL well, people like that just super impress me.

I grew up watching Roy Clark on Hee Haw. He was a joy to watch.

My family used to watch Hee Haw every week. So I saw this when it was originally on tv. A great "Clean" comedy show that's pure country.

Part of the reason he’s not a household name is because he stopped playing big public concerts I think in the 80s. He had some issues with his back and it was tough for him to travel and to stand there and play for that length of time. But he very often could be found in these little dive bars playing with the house band and having the time of his life. And he was funnier than all get out. But he just wanted to play and have a good time. Innoway he’s a lot like Vince Gill, who sat in on hundreds of recording sessions unaccredited on CDs for years just because he enjoys it so much.

Roy Clark is a genius on every stringed instrument. Guitar, Banjo, Fiddle, Mandolin, and I'm probably forgetting some. Listen to Roy Clark play Dueling Banjos with Jimmy Henley Live at Billy Bob's 1999. That is a Classic. I miss Roy Clark.

I clicked on this because I saw Roy Clark doing dueling banjos, then I went through your other vids on him. I honestly had no idea that had a career outside of Hee Haw. I was pretty young when I would watch that show with my parents and had no idea of the genius musicianship I was watching. I'm glad you showed me that there was more to his career and oh my goodness he was amazing!!!

The two most versatile artist were Roy Clark and Glen Campbell who both could play multiple instruments. Both could play approximately about 12 or 13 each.

Omg! 😂 I remember this! I used to watch Hee Haw at my grandparents house every weekend. 🥲☺️ In their bedroom, sitting on the floor at the foot of their bed. Great memories of simpler times. 🥹 Roy Clark was my favorite on the show. I loved his sincere smile and the natural joy on his face when he played. Plus he was amazingly talented, even as a kid I knew that much! ❤❤ Love your reaction to Roy Clark! I'm old enough to remember when this segment with Roy Clark and Buck Trent first aired on Hee Haw. It's just as captivating to watch today as it was decades ago. Hee Haw had more talent in one hour back then than every combined show airing on TV today. What a great period to grow up in.

this was a show that was full of comedy and country music when I was young (I'm 55) hee haw ran from 1969 to 1992 I was born 1 year before it came out and I remember watching it in the 70's. my dad loved this show.

Roy Clark is great. A couple of suggestions on his songs: Orange Blossom Special --Roy Clark and Johnny Cash Thank God and Greyhound 12th Street Rag Orange Blossom Special --Roy Clark (on Fiddle) and Jimmy Henley Thanks for a fun reaction. Yes Roy was a musical virtuoso.

Sister of that y< so gladI was born and raised in Nashville Tennessee...we heard this LIVE on the local news a.m. and " the noon show" at 12:00.Dolly and Porter several times a week ..hearing good banjo makes me cry. Wish this guy had hushed till it was over!!

Buck Trent was known as one of the best banjo players in the world when this was made. Roy Clark can play any stringed instrument. Any list of the top 20 guitar lists or top 10 banjo lists that doesn't include Roy Clark should just be ignored.
