Probably would've committed suicide a while ago if it wasn't for this guys music.. Was extremely depressed a couple years ago and his music was the only thing that kept me going, just knowing someone could relate to the way I was feeling was very comforting. Rest in peace eyedea, you will always be one of the world's greatest artists and human beings to walk the earth and I sincerely mean that.. RIP bro

Hugh Jaynis Listen to his music he says, "if I'm not alive I was probably killed then". Read into the story of his death his friend found him dead and then his mom said she found him dead. But his friend called the ambulance. It's a fucked up world we live in. So never let it take your balance and do best don't give in...

I was just mourning His death, so much "potential" and so young..and your comment made me realize, in a kind-of fucked up way (which is consistent with our universe), maybe it's better this way. Maybe he lived exactly how he was supposed to, and the impression he made and the way he left it is what has had such a tremendous impact on me. I guess to quote Him, "everything is perfect just the way it is"

What I would give to have been in that empty first seat closest to the stage. Those people were obviously rude, or deaf, or both. But I love how towards the end when shit got real he DEMANDED attention. That's passion you rarely ever see, especially when he was performing to an audience who talked amongst themselves, like they couldn't give a shit, and then one chick even laughed, like when he was showing the most emotion. What the fuck was funny about that song? What a shame and a waste of space those people were, because I know I'm not the only one would would have given anything to have witnessed it. Why do the best souls always seem to burnout so fast?

i think you misunderstand the way eyedea and other rhymesayers perform live. he would've been that loud/used that tone if this was a concert. but yea, the crows was depreciative.

+Carrie Carden In total agreement. I absolutely loved the way he performed this song, Regardless if it was only to get the crowds attention or how Over Pass said it could be the normal way he performed it. But it honestly does seem like the crowds lack of attention, if not basic respect to the performer bugged him. Ex:The long pause before "So it's binge and purge, stomach acid burns, she sings perfectly in tune but no one understands a word." It seems like that's when his whole tone just changed. Also, like you, I would have been honored to have sat in that empty seat. The answer to your question isn't so easy to answer unfortunately.. All we can do is honor his memory and never let his music die. Rest In Peace Micheal Larsen, would have loved to see you perform.

Over Pass That's strange. I just saw Atmosphere perform live in Pensacola FL on March 25th of this year. Didn't hear Slug, PROF, or deM atlaS do anything close to what Michael did in this performance. I have videos if you'd like actual proof. Oh, and check out the cover photo on my google+ profile. I had the honor and privilege of meeting each one of them myself, and got them to sign my vinyl copy of Southsiders. It was a night that is burned into my memory. After the loss of Eyedea I no longer let the opportunity to see musicians I love and respect perform live pass me by. Long story short I suffer from panic disorder, agoraphobia, dermatillomania, and major depressive disorder. I rarely leave my house. I'm also an alcoholic in recovery. I've been sober since July 17th 2011. The Vinyl Music Hall is a small venue, and a bar. So needless to say it took some guts to go into that environment alone. As I stood in line outside waiting to get in my knees were knocking and I couldn't get my legs to stop shaking. I almost chickened out right then. THANK GOD I DID NOT! By far the BEST live show I've seen. Atmosphere fans are their own breed. For the most part, everyone I've encountered has been laid back and kind. Sure Slug raised his voice to be heard of the crowd of extremely loyal fans showing their love for the music. But like what Michael did here? Not even close. I will agree that Eyedea always gives a raw, emotional, and powerful live performance. Hearing his live performances of Spin Cycle, Hay Fever, Skydiver, Burn Fetish, and other tracks with DJ Abilities definitely tend to be fueled by anger, rage, but in my opinion the way he performs is more driven by pain and anguish than anything else. But there are plenty of other songs that aren't like that at all. Smile is a good example for instance. Then take the music on The Many Faces Of Oliver Hart. Here For You is one of the most chill and beautiful songs I've ever heard. Oh and then there's Forget Me, which features Slug. Another chill vibe. And his album When In Rome Kill The King reminds me a lot of Kurt Cobain but with a softer side and a lot more funny. And I Wish You Well is definitely my favorite from that album. The only thing I hear coming out in his voice is pain. Much like Elliott Smith. It's not about being loud, it's about being heard. Expressing the pain he carried inside. And with this performance in particular I don't feel like he was just going through the motions and doing it like all the rhymesayers do. This song feels highly personal, and he was pouring his heart out on that stage. If the crowd (more like a hand full of people) were going to be so rude as to not even listen, well then he'll just have to get their attention. I think it was a mix of frustration for them not "getting it" or even trying to, and the real raw pain he felt about the person the song was about. Which is why he made sure they heard what he wanted to say. Whether they liked it or not. He had a message, and he was there to share it. And so he did. Whether they liked it or not. He wasn't the type to give a fuck about what people thought of his music choices. I mean he got death threats when he decided to go and explore a different style of music. But he did it anyway. Because he was a true artist, and that's how they run things. It's therapy for him, but if it means something else to one of the fans, cool. That's what makes music so damn amazing. We all relate to it in our own personal way. There is no way to truly know what was going on in his mind when he created his art. And I personally don't think that was the point for him, nor do I think it's the point for Slug. As far as the artists on the rhymesayers label, I don't think you can just clump them all together like that. They all have their own very distinct and unique styles that they bring to the table. Besides Trying To Find A Balance, I honestly can't think of too many songs he goes off on like that. That's not a diss. Obviously, I love Slug, and he loves me :) It's just him, doing what he does. Maybe it's because he doesn't carry the kind of pain around that Eyedea did. Or maybe he just expresses those feelings in a different way. Brother Ali, totally different. Grimes, totally different. PROF, totally different. deM atlaS, totally different. You really can't compare them like that. Which was probably the point and why the chose who they did. There's something there for everyone. It's smart business. One thing they do all share it some crazy mad talent. But that's pretty much as far as it goes. I think a lot of men assume that women can't possibly know anything about music, much less rap. But you might be surprised. Not trying to start a argument or debate. Just elaborating on what I was saying in my original comment and responding to your reply to it. And I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, I'm just stating my opinion on the music. You don't know anything about me, except for what you read in one short comment on KZbin. To say I'm misunderstanding the music is kinda rude and dismissive. As if any of us really know that much anyone. If I've learned anything from listening to Atmosphere, and hearing Slug talk about the music in interviews, it's that I don't think he would ever tell someone they are misunderstanding the music. He makes it, puts it out there, and leaves it up to you to decide what it means for you. That's one of the things I love about him the most. Eyedea was just real. He wasn't worried about being cool or famous, he just wanted to make music HE loved. And if the fans loved it too, that was just an added bonus at the end of the day. Anyway, sorry to write a novel. I tend to over-analyze and over-explain things I'm really passionate about. So it won't hurt my feelings if you think 90% of what I had to say was pointless. It's just my opinion, and I like to share it. Even if no one else agrees, it made perfect sense to me :) Take care! Maybe we'll run into each other at a show one day :) Regardless of our opinions we can all agree this label is full of talented people who make amazing music. At least in that fact we can all unite.

FatallyJooner Well said, my friend. Couldn't agree more. Though we will never get that chance to go back in time and give him the love and respect this performance deserved, we can come here and listen to his music together. And his music will never die as long as there are fans like us still around to appreciate it. Just press play, close your eyes, and listen like you ARE there in the front row. I'll be beside you. And that way, he can live forever. Still sucks this time of year. Only 6 days away :( But while he was here he lived life like there was no tomorrow. He challenged himself constantly musically. He wasn't afraid of anything when it came to making his art. When I start to get down about the fact that he passed, I just remind myself that he went peacefully in his sleep, he felt no pain, and he gave us, his fans, tracks like Here For You to remind us he's never really gone. Every time you hear his music I believe a part of him is with you. He will live on long after I'm dead and gone. I can only pray I make art that moves people to the point of tears, laughter, and love. Because THAT is really living. Okay, I'm rambling. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Much love and many prayers always, Carrie

An old wise man used to say to me don't play with smoke and mirrors You might see something you weren't ready to see Or worse you might start to believe that you're actually here She was 19 when she came to me And offered her apple in exchange for my smile I would soon fall into her world with my head over heels, Never again to stand on solid ground They called her crazy, we called their bluff, And we vowed each other shit we didn't know the meaning of She was my dream girl, I was her drunk And we were two young, dumb, compulsive, loaded guns in love People show you their past by how they walk when there's wind They show you their history by how close their bones are to their skin She learned to be ashamed of the body she was in From a big world that decided beauty's only in the eye of the thin So it's binge and purge, stomach acid burns She sings perfectly in tune, but no one understands her words She said "build me a castle", so I went to work And ignored the problem in the almighty name of her I've been here before, happens every time I stay so focused on the light I wind up going blind As time slipped by, didn't realize She was disappearing into thin air right in front of my eyes An old wise man used to say to me don't play with smoke and mirrors I'm up to a pack and a half a day I sleep by myself, cause there's no one else here

I am almost 7(+) years now clean from junk, and i posted this elsewhere but I used to run into Mike at the Access Works (needle exchange) in the late 00s (around here), he introduced himself to me because I didn’t recognize him at first and he needed help finding a fix and so he met a middle man one time years back before he passed. He saved my number and was a solid man, a good soul and a wise spirit. Jeez, I wish he was still alive, I’d have gladly went to keep his life going in some karmic exchange but sadly that’s not how that game works. So grateful to not have that be my reality. But I’ll always remember seeing Mike “Eyedea” Larsen those few times at access works in the late 00s when it was still operating near between Nicollet 15th Oak Grove, so grateful to have survived those dark days. RIP eternally Mike Larsen

He will be loved and remembered always and forever!! Words can't describe how intelligent and beautiful his music is. He helped me in so many different ways through my awakening and self discovery. It sounds crazy but I've had a couple short vivid dreams of Mickey and I hanging out which makes me feel more of a connection and resonance with this beautiful soul's art more than before! But I would really like to know if his death was really accidental or he was taken out by the powers that control us because he knew too much or he literally traveled/was transported to a different but much higher world or realm due to his intelligence and wisdom?!?! Please someone, any thoughts? It's been on my mind for too long and can't seem to find any content regarding it! Love and peace! 💚💚💚 R.I.P Michael!

It wasn't improvisational. The song is out there and able to be purchased. Skinny by Carbon Carousel off of the Nervous EP. This was his last, and actually one of only 3 acoustic sets.

This isn't on When in Rome, Kill the King. It's on Carbon Carousel's Nervous EP. However, the song isn't acoustic on the EP. :/

So I have "When in Rome ..." and I've listened to every song, and I swear this song is not on there. Am I going crazy? Is there something I'm missing?

What happened to the other video where he's playing this song in a coffee shop atmosphere as well, however it's a little bit darker inside. It was my favorite version, but as of recently I can't find it :/
