Michel Sardou it's a phenomenal vocal power … and yet he moves very little on the scene ,not like johnny halliday who was much more expansive and showman (besides, he wrote him an extraordinary tribute song: le phoenix !!) Whether committed ( le France ) or love ( 10 ans plus tôt / je vais t'aimer, la maladie d'amour … ) or other themes ( Marie Jeanne / je ne suis pas mort je dors/ femmes des années 80 … ), it's an anthology of songs that punctuate a career in more than 300 titles . Good video once again, being French I find it very interesting to have a point of view, from a person who does not know our standards ;) For Sardou, I would advise you the song "France" (in relation to the abandonment of the big shipyards of St Nazaire, an evil that still eats away at the country decades later), "Je vais t'aimer" a great love song, or "Musulmanes" (which pays tribute to the sand, the desert and the women). Otherwise here are some tracks, for future videos ? ;) Barbara "L'aigle Noir" (very dark song, about incest... But important song in the French heritage, because Barbara inspired many singers thereafter). Johnny Halliday "Je te promet", great classic of the 80's, a powerful love song. Jean-Jacques Goldman "Rouge", live, with the Red Army Choir. Louise Attaque "J't'emmène au vent", a song from the 90's, very light, which gives you the peach. M "Je dis Aime", again it's more recent, but this song shows the magic of M in less than 4 minutes. Francis Cabrel "Je t'aimais, je t'aime, je t'aimerais", all the poetic magic of Cabrel, a very beautiful ballad. Téléphone "Le jour s'est levé", one of the last songs of the mythical French band of the 80's, maybe not the best song, but the most accessible for a non French speaker. Michel Polnareff "Lettre à France", synthesizer, powerful voice, guitar, a great standard of French music. Here, I avoid monsters like Brassens, Ferré, Bécaud, Aznavour, Bécaud, Gainsbourg, or even less popular things like Saez, Manu/Dolly, MC Solaar, IAM, Noir Deseir, Mano Négra, Thiéfaine.... But I put it here anyway ;)

Thank you for this nice re-discovering of Sardou's song ! You definitely should try "Musulmanes" (1988) : it's one of his most popular. Every time Sardou was singing it, the public was coming closer to the stage to move their arms with the music. That's a very impressive music. And the text is a tribute to muslim women and how beautiful is their culture. You will like it. Sardou wrote and sang in many kinds of musics : rock, blues, disco, spanish music ("Je vais t'aimer"). "Je vais t'aimer" (I'm gonna love you") is a beautiful love song (more sex than love), it's about desire, with a huge introduction played by the violins and classic guitars. In France, Sardou is mainly known for his text songs. Despite he is politically for the right-side, he spoke for LGBT people, the students, and inequalitys between rich and poor people in front of justice. His very firts song, "Les Ricains" was censured by the Général De Gaulle (president), in the 60's. In this very short and efficient song, teenager Sardou answered back to the US haters, reminding them that if the american soldiers hadn't saved us for WW2, we would probably still live in Germany ! Great punchline. Sorry, I'm too long... Just to say : try "Musulmanes", and "Je vais t'aimer". Cheers.
