I got an advanced mono-focus lens at an extra $600.00 per eye. The result is that I have incredible distance vision, excellent intermediate vision glasses free, but require quite strong reading glasses. I am perfectly happy to have all vision great except reading. I recommend these lenses highly.

Doctor you forgot to mention that Johnson and Johnson have also introduced the Tecnis Puresee. It’s already available in Europe and will be released in the US shortly. It’s an EDOF lens. From initial reports I am hearing it’s performing better at near than Vivity. However I am waiting to hear more feedback on it. It’s great that you are covering new lenses. Keep up the good work!

The question I have about LAL lenses is that after the lens has been set (fully polymerized), is it still subject to optical changes if exposed to fairly intense blue or even longwave UV. Having to redo the surgery would not be in my list of things I'd like to do :-).

Good afternoon, Dr. Lee, been watching your videos for a while now and appreciate the candidness regarding the dizzying amount of premium lenses that are available. Although, I would argue that there's only two or three worth looking at in my opinion. With this being said, I'm one of those picky people that are extremely particular about my eyesight and have recently learned I'm a candidate for the light adjustable lens. However, I have never been in a situation where I've had an opportunity to try out mono vision, but knowing my sensitivities, I question whether or not I would be OK with that or not. I'm not sure if I can ask for a mono type of prescription for contact lenses to test it out as some other people on KZbin have suggested. I definitely would like to have great vision in all three ranges and I do completely understand that it's not a guarantee, but I'm wondering what you're seeing in your practice and if you could shed some light on where you are with these procedures, and more specifically the light adjustable lenses. I know it's only been a few months unless I've misunderstood what you said in the video. I would appreciate any guidance or any thoughts that you might have for someone like me. I do realize it's more of a general question as I'm not asking you to diagnose it invisible person lol cheers and have a wonderful day.

Hi Dr. Lee, this question is not really related to new lenses. I had a mono-focal lens for both eyes in January. One was Toric and the other was Eyehance. I was very myopic. I made progressive lens for computer and reading after surgery. I get a moving, dreamy sensation, like when you just get out of bed. Also some objects were distorted when you look at them from an angle. I have worn the glasses for over 5 months but it is still the same. When I take them off or wear non prescription sunglasses, the feeling goes away. Is it true that progressives might not work for someone who had cataract surgery if they were myopic. I have worn progressives for many many years before my cataracts were removed and I had no problems until my cataracts were removed. I read a lot about after effects of a cataract surgery and no one ever mentioned this, my eye doctor, optometrist, etc. that I might have problems with progressive lenses. Blurry after cataract surgery. I have a very slight PCO in one eye. Two eye doctors said that it was so slight that it shouldn't affect me. I must be very sensitive to it. Should I have a Yag even though it is so slight. It is affecting me. I feel like I am looking through smudgy eyeglasses. Thanks!

1 month post op follow up: Vision is AMAZING! I now have 20/15 (better than 20/20) colors are so bright, the clarity is so crisp.... I truly didn't expect it to be as good as it is! Surgery was absolutely painless! The hardest part was having the operating lights shining in my eyes for about 15 minutes per eye. Anyone considering the LAL+ IOL's they get a 10 star rating from me. Just understand, they do come with some work afterwards while the nearsighted vision is dialed in. Things such as using the post-op steroid eye drops for a month, limiting your lifting and bending over for about 2 weeks while the eyes heal up, and wearing UV protective glasses anytime you are outside until ou "lock in" your prescription (UV Light is used to lock in your prescription, so you don't want to risk prematurely locking it in via too much natural sunlight exposure. (Your doctor will/should explain it all) Extremely satisfied with my results! Wish all of you the same outcome I have had with mine.

This is such helpful information, Dr. Lee! Thanks so much for keeping us up to date. 🙏 Every year I wait, I breathe a sigh of relief that I haven't moved forward. With myopia, an astigmatism, presbyopia and dry eyes, I really want to wait for a product that can reliably deliver a spectacle free result. And, so far my cataracts are not terribly progressed. 🤞🏼I've been wearing B&L Ultra multifocal for astigmatism for years and I never need readers. The comfort is sub optimal, but I accept the tradeoff as I am a very active person. Do any of these stand out as a clear choice for dry eye candidates? I'll stay tuned!

I have 2 questions on the LAL-series lenses. The first is in regard to the need to wear UV-blocking sunglasses. Is this "forever" (a showstopper for me), or just until their shape is finalized by the "Lock-In" exposure? Assuming the latter is the case, what is the typical post-surgery time interval required until this can be completed? (guess 2-3 months) The second question is in regard to the long-term stability of this lens. Has any independent analysis been done to estimate how it will perform after a period of 20 years?

I’d like to know you talk about one of them not doing well if you shake or the ice shake or something I have Tourette’s would Tourette’s be something that would be contraindicated with one of the new lenses that you were talking about I didn’t stop and write the name down or put this in. I watch the whole thing first I don’t remember which one specifically it was but I would love to know, would Tourette’s be contraindicated for use with either one of the new lenses that are coming out. One eye is bad enough for cataract surgery and they told me the other one was not I don’t know if that has changed or not. They said something about being allowed to do the other one if this one got done and I’m thinking that’s not the way it works. But also my dad had a very bad time with his cataract surgery back when they used cadaver pieces
@MicheleLeeMD6 ай бұрын
Hi there, if you have a head tremor as part of your Tourette’s, you may not be a candidate for the light adjustable lens (LAL or LAL+) as these lenses require adjustments in the clinic setting. It is important to talk to your surgeon to see what options you have for your surgery. Best of luck!

Michelle Lee, MD - I'm approaching the time when I'll have to have my cataracts removed and a lens implanted. . An eye doctor told me a few months ago the (not new, availabe in Europe for about 15 years) light adjustable lens has not lived up to expectations and the distance vision correction fails in many patients after a few years - though I suppose this could happen with any lens. . I am a distance guy. I'll live with readers. I've heard that most people like 80% go for distance improvement. No mono vision, or multi vision for me. Assuming a 20/20 outcome for me following surgery with crisp distance vision - how likely my lens will 'move' within 10 years, disrupting that crisp distance vision? . Any faith in Ocumetics and their super lens due for human trials next year? Thanks!
