started AIP on Monday. Yours, Shanna Nemrows, and Adamimmune's videos are helping me soooo much!

can't forget about those Korean noodles used in JapChae, the only ingredient is sweet potato starch and they are awesome because they have that real *noodle-y-ness* for those times you just *don't feel* like having spiralized veggies (plus they are translucent and just look c o o l )

great point! I keep forgetting about them since I've never actually EATEN them - though I have some in my pantry... I need to get on that!

Thanks for this list! There were quite a few new ideas for me here. I've tried to make the coconut yogurt from homemade coconut milk and it weirdly separated. I'd love to see a video on that, or if you know of a good resource. Thanks!

I'm glad this helped! So I have this video on making Instant Pot coconut milk yogurt - but I do give suggestions for how to make it outside of an IP as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnndYp6oj859sJY Coconut milk is pretty fussy though, as you'll be able to tell from my video, haha.

Great list! Thank you for sharing! On a side note, some of us are sensitive to fermented foods, so nutritional yeast, kombucha and coconut aminos would be out. ☺
@MicheleSpring4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you'd need to avoid those, just as people sensitive to coconut would need to avoid coconut-based products and so on. There are so many varying sensitivities and tolerances out there I simply cannot account for all of them, so this is a list for people following the general AIP diet. I figure if you know your sensitivities you'll know what to keep out :-)

Are there coffee substitutes ready to buy instead of mixing all the teas?

There is- you’ll get to it in a few videos but there’s this Coffig made from roasted figs that’s pretty good! (AIP Coffee Alternative - COFFIG Review kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2Gtd6F7rcabeZI )

Where do they sell these products? Can I get them at Trader Joe’s? Are the plantain chips at TJ ok?
@MicheleSpring6 жыл бұрын
You can get a lot of these online at Amazon, Thrive Market, or shopaip.com/ but I'm sure you'd be able to get some of them at Trader Joes. I unfortunately don't have one too close so I don't shop there, so I can't answer if the plantain chips there are ok. If they're just plantain chips and then palm oil or coconut oil then yes, they're ok. If they've got any chemical preservatives or flavorings like chili powder then they wouldn't be.

How long do you do AIP? I just got diagnosed with Hashimoto's. ❤️
@MicheleSpring2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on you and how quickly you start to feel better, but most people do it for 30-90 days and then start reintroducing foods one-by-one. But I do recommend doing it for at least 30 days to give your system a chance to calm down so that you really can start to understand if the foods you are reintroducing affect you in any way.

Can you not have ghee on AIP? You can on Paleo, right?
@MicheleSpring5 жыл бұрын
It’s not compliant for the elimination phase but is one of the first reintroductions. Though, to be honest, I didn’t take it out the first time I did AIP in 2014, oops! 😬
@RememberTheLord3 жыл бұрын
Question - you keep saying “while on AIP” - does that mean I don’t have to do it forever? I’m trying to take a non-medicine approach and would love to know how long the diet is needed for
@MicheleSpring3 жыл бұрын
Yep, it is a temporary diet - the elimination portion, where you take all the stuff you probably want to eat out (haha) is only really 30-90 days typically so that you can give your body a chance to heal, and then you slowly and methodically start reintroducing foods back in looking out for any reactions. I'd say the majority of people complete the whole thing, from elimination through reintroducing all of the foods they want to within 6-12 months total. Some take longer, and some decide to stay on it long term, but most go to a custom diet that works well for them based on the foods they tolerate. You can learn more on my website - I've got a whole page dedicated to the ins and outs of AIP: thrivingonpaleo.com/aip-diet-autoimmune-paleo-protocol/

I thought AIP stands for Autoimmune Protocol not Autoimmune Paleo?
@MicheleSpring3 жыл бұрын
one day I'm going to do a video on this, haha. So they're basically the same thing, but there are a few versions out there. Dr. Amy Myers has one and Dr. Sarah Ballantyne has one - Dr. Myers does just the Autoimmune Protocol and Dr. Sarah's is the Autoimmune Paleo Protocol. Both are essentially the same thing, but Dr. Myer's includes some things that Dr. Ballantyne has removed because the research shows that it can still aggravate leaky gut and prevent healing (like black pepper for instance). They're both based off of the Paleo diet though and then further restricted by removing those things that research and anecdotal evidence shows can cause or aggravate leaky gut, inflammation, and autoimmune activity. The version I talk about, and the grand majority of bloggers create recipes for, etc, is Dr. Ballantyne's Autoimmune Paleo Protocol version though.
